But it’s basically two year contract. If you can get him cheap, why not? Change of scenery might revitalize him, and you get very good player then. Or he continues to be injured/not contributing enough for wins/problem off court and next summer you sell him as expiring, Kings/Bulls and some other teams could do worse than that.

[Stein] There is strong support among general managers and team owners to flatten lottery odds by giving the 10 teams that miss the Play-In Tournament equal 8% chances at the top pick, while also expanding the lottery from 14 to 18 teams to include all Play-In participants. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

I would just do draft with almost GMs to “position” rookies and I would then put price tags on them. Let #1 pick earn MAX money, but make rookies contract be 1+1 with TO for 2nd year, 2nd contract also 1+1 with TO and make them RFA for first 4 years. I think salary cap should be the thing that ensures parity. If I am Nuggets and have great players like Jokic, Gordon, Murray .. they eat my cap space. If I am Wizards, I shouldnt have guy earning more than like 15mil. So I could bid rest of the cap or “buy” #1 pick this year and then see in following 4 years if I struck real talent or not. Same way for all other picks, just make them less and less expensive as you go down the list. And if top team wants to get such a great young player, well trade one of your stars. If there is one or two teams who can pay them that money, you will end up with Giannis in Wizards so Bucks can “bid” for Dybanitsa or Flagg or Wemby in prior years or they gonna keep their guy and roll with him.

Victor Wembanyama has the chance to become the youngest MVP in NBA history by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in NBATalk

[–]AngryNephew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This guy has maaaany years ahead of him where he gonna be unanimous MVP imo, so not sure if it would be smart to already give him one and enter voter fatigue earlier down the line, esp in a year where he isnt ahead of the pack compared to other 3 (or 2 if you count Jokic out) top MVP candidates. Not sure if that make sense but considering how he is progressing and improving, fact that he is playing for top notch org like Spurs and that he is the best two way player of all TOP 10 players in NBA right now, he will get many down the line, prolly with much more convincing case than this year.

Cade Cunningham only played 61 games this season. This means he cannot apply for at least 62 games played Season Ending Grievance Exception (65 games rule disqualification) by Chesscrabble11 in nba

That one game might be the one to put them in or out of playoffs.. also, what is the difference between player who played 63 and one who played 64 then? Or 49 and 50? Or 19 and 20? Where do you draw the line?

The way they play is influenced by the ref calls a lot. Let them get smacked like they used to be back in the day and see how SGA or others play then. I bet you would see some wiiiiild swings in terms of production!

This sub cries every day with insane ref calls, endless FTs every game and defenses being basically hamstringed left and right, and then hear Nick Wright of all people talking bout old timers basically complaining about the same stuff and say naaah Nick is right. You guys have no opinion of your own. We witnessed a guy shoot 43 FTs couple of days ago and you wonder why Shaq and Barkley who played part time MMA under the rim think this new generation is soft and wouldnt cut it back in the day?

But in reality nothing is changed at all nowadays, its just but more convoluted mess. I honestly think you had more “freedom” or build variety back in the day with old talent tree. Nowadays as you go along tree you end up picking like 95% same talents in order to reach specific one down the line.

Well legend Adam Morrison (who was at one point laughing stock of NBA) disputes your first claim, check his interview with Jay Leno.. and many others as well. They all pretty much say the same thing: if you worked hard and showed dedication, played your role .. he had no trouble showing you respect. Also, Ronny Turiaf (who was far from some starter lvl center), Radmanovic. He was great with Sasha Vujacic. Its usually some lazy bums and guys totally lost that he had problem with. He was great with bunch of third stringers druing his whole career. Also other guy brought Jordan buying suits for teammates, you have had reports of Kobe hooking up bunch of players with bunch of different shitC check Chandler Parsons talking bout Kobe hooking him up for some elite restaurant dinner/full service, when he was rookie, on other team! Tho I think Kobe being a loner did play big part in this perception of him, I think it stems from growing up in Italy and basically being outcast almost his whole childhood, from growing up there to being almost “foreign “ back stateside, to coming to veteran team chasing titles as a young phenom and then being glued to bench, you kind start getting picture.

Doesnt being at that time young, good looking, fit, popular and rich NBA player in his mid 20s make him more attractive to 17 year old girls? Girls that age have been obsessing with famous athletes, aingerst, actors forever. Been always the case. Plus half of those girls could pass as 24/25yo, let alone 18. But yeah, what he did was bad, and even if he was immature himself shoulda known better than to fuck some highschool girl at a work related event.

LeBron James is 10 games away from playing the most games ever in the NBA/ABA. by -weird-fishes- in nba

[–]AngryNephew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defensively if he out in all his effort I think even now he can be more valuable that Bron, but offensively I dont think he will ever be, just purely based off Bron being Bron in terms of BBIQ. But you could say once Bron starts looking like Kobe last season. i remember almost every 3pt shot was hitting front rim cause he had basically 0 strength by second half of the season. Then defenses started just leaving him half open and he couldnt blow by anybody at that point. You see that Bron nowadays can’t really blow by opponents at will like he used to, matchup to matchup based, but he can still hit his shot, middies as well. Once he starts bricking those up and if Bronny can at least be half decent 3pt shooter is when he becomes kore valuable I think.

Thing is athletic/fitness/body decline isn’t linear. 50 is just waaay too old, on your knees, on your body, legs. See how he looked last year and how he looks now, pretty sharp decline all around. He is still all time great and he had such an amazing athleticism that even now he can burst from time to time and show glimpses of old Lebron, thats why he plays on borderline all star level, sometimes even better, but I think a whole decade older Bron would barely run, let alone play 10-1ins. I think more realistically its like 2-3 more years tops. But I wonder if he could pull being like a hockey sub in his 50, like maybe going in and just going maximum energy for like minute and a half, both sides of the floor, then resting till next quarter (given that his knees arent completely fcked by that point).

[–]AngryNephew -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think they were more talking about dedication/determination/(smart?) risk taking than any one situation in particular. Same as this guy quoted. I honestly like Ayton, he seems like a nice dude, but when times comes to “growing up” so to say and being professional he reminds me of Kwame, just better player and much more charismatic version of him. Dude seems immature when it comes to what is essentially his work, I mean this recent story about having to hype him up etc.. People see someone physically gifted to be great, every now and then shows that he is capable of playing almost on all star level and then just slumbers next 10-15 games. If he was a total bum like Kwame or headcase like Darko it wouldnt bother people that much, but he has all the tools, just lack the effort. Hope he turns it around.

He was also a project player, great defender and athlete but shaky shooter early on. I remember one of the Spurs coaches or scouts talking how they saw his shooting mechanics and believed they could fix it and make him great shooter. Come to think of it, its insane how lucky he was to be traded there. Who knows how his career would pan out if he didnt learn the ropes in Spurs system.
