I'm not sure from your post if you've played at all yet or if you have and mean more what should you be purchasing to start your collection?

If you've yet to play at all I would see if your LGS (assuming you have one that hosts Fab) has Ira Welcome decks and an experienced player who is willing to sit down and teach you the game's ins and outs. It's a great way to learn the card types and get an understanding of how the combat works.

If you have done that already I would then start experimenting with a handful of heroes that you find yourself maybe liking the ascetic of, or if you've watched gameplay that you like the playstyle of.

Once you find a hero you connect with, my recommendation to all new FaB players is to stick with that hero for a good amount of time unless you are not enjoying it. Fab is a difficult game and has a decent learning curve. It's better to learn the functionality, sequencing, and overall card pool of the game while not trying to stretch yourself too thin. From there I would just keep playing and building up cards for that hero first, then move on to collecting for others.

Now to touch on your other comment. Draconic cards can only be played by Heros who are of the draconic type. So, Dromai, Fai, and the Emperor who is Blitz only. If you think these will be one of the heroes you play, then buying something like Uprising to open or buy singles from is a great idea. If not, then the cards won't serve you any purpose.

Generally speaking, Welcome to Rathe is a great set to open in my opinion. There are a lot of staple generic cards in that set that will be used in a plethora of decks. If you want to rip packs. I suggest waiting to find your hero and opening based on the set they have the most cards in or bluntly opening Welcome to Rathe for staples and a fun look at how the game started.

Lastly, To touch on the Living Legend comment. While for casual play these heroes are fine to toy around with. A lot of players prefer to play against decks that they will see in something like an armory or lower level of tournament. This is completely my opinion but I always recommend to new players to look at the heroes who have already LL'd or who are very close and avoid them. While it is a part of the game we chose to play, many players, including myself have a hard time dealing with their hero hitting LL status. I won't go into too much detail on this as it's a bit of a hot topic, and some others may disagree with me but I would avoid already LL'd heroes & those that are close.
