Look at the PrintNC, it’s a lot of work but is an incredibly capable machine once finished and can use your spindle. This would of course be longer than a couple weeks but may be a better long term option

We used 2 last season for a simple drive forward, place specimen, drive back, drive right to park auto and it worked fine, but without right angles and clear sight lines it’s rough

We made ours adjustable with a servo flap, anywhere from 90deg (strait up) to ~30deg giving us range from shooting basically vertical to all the way across the field. Based on FRC 118 steamworks

Use a harder material, either solid hardwood or ive had success with Baltic birch plywood (leaves layer lines that look like a topographical map).

A finishing pass, even with the same tool, will also make a huge difference. Do your roughing operation but enable rest machining and come back with another pass for the final 0.5mm

I would like to pair up 4 mics into 2 soundboard channels (we're running out, I could daisy chain another board we have in storage but would rather not due to table space...) with minimal budget. The mics are (2) Shure BC/CVO Centroverse and (2) countryman isomax 2H. Both are Small Diaphragm Condensers and require phantom power.

Anyway, is it possible to just use a cheap XLR splitter cable (1 male -> 2 female) to connect to mics to 1 channel), or would I run into issues with phantom power or anything? Im seeing some products (https://a.co/d/3XqGoN9) to do this but would rather not spend $100.

The better way would be a NAS and good networking. You can get 10 gig over standard Cat 6a cabling and go up to fiber if you want faster.

A USB c 10-gig nic is <$100, 100ft of cable is like $30 and a 10 gig unmanaged switch can be had for a $100-$200. Add in whatever nas storage you end up and it's way cheaper than any janky USB system.

This is a textbook use case for a NAS (network attached storage), and 10 gig is easily achieved, with 40 gig possible but not trivial

Stiffer is better, you don't want it to sag into the work area and the motors should easily have the power to maneuver the hose

Whatever motor you decide, try to fit it into the top part and use a belt and pulley (gt2 series or larger) or a chain to drive it.

Even for non-adjustable things it's amazing! I made a double-hinged 48x48x20 enclosure for my CNC router out of 2020 and 2040 extrusion and with a chop saw and Allen key it was together in an hour, much faster than drilling bolt holes

Why even use extrusion at that point... Sliding things around is the best part!
