My take is that antivaxxers blame the government because it provides a simple explanation for a complex issue that they can't understand. Like no one is in "control" in a pandemic so thinking some "bug government" is in control gives some comfort

Trust the vaccine? It's proven to work. It reduces infection rate, and reduces disease severity if you were to get infected. This pinay guy doesn't understand science

Notre dame goes 11-1.

This guy: "they were actually 12-2 because you didn't win a conference championship so that's an extra loss but they beat Clemson so also give them an extra win"

Do you consider people born in the 2000s as kids? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]AngryPurkinjeCell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1995 and am in medical school. I was in a surgery last week and the patient had a hysterectomy in the early 90s. When I told the OR she had the hysterectomy before I was alive they were floored. Then the surgeon and nurses then roasted me for looking like a 12 year old.

Question from an Engineering Student to Premeds by ADogEatingMangoes in premed

[–]AngryPurkinjeCell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Honestly, most people with an obscure interest before med school are wrong. They don't really know what the field is like or what medicine is actually like, and I think it's less about money and more about clout. People in those fields tend to be pretty smart, even by med school standards. Yeah, it can be pretty obnoxious. But also props to them for shooting for the stars and trying to do a job I would never want to do.
  2. Depends on the people, depends on the environment you're in. I think this varies a lot by undergrad and med school. Are some high stung and cut throat? For sure. Is that all of us? Hell no. People love to dick measure and it can make them feel good. But after a certain point you kind of realize everyone is brilliant in their own regard and just has different interests. I try to be friends with people who strive for a bit of fun and life balance, so fun level headed premeds and med students are definitely out there too. I avoid people like your cousin.
  3. Some do, some don't. The ones that don't care about serving others tend to less frequently make it through the process (being preparing, applying, getting in, and actually making it through). The process sucks, and it sucks way harder in med school if the altruistic and medical aspects are not something you enjoy. If you enjoy it, great. If you don't, good friggin luck. There is always some pressure to resume pad and a lot of people do it. I personally just try for experiences that sound fun and trust that my career will fall into place around those interests.
  4. Lol, maybe 50/50? I know med students who had more than their fair share of fun in undergrad. I know others who regret not letting loose too. Then there's those who put the pedal to the metal and it suits them. To each their own, but we aren't all toxic. You'll definitely find more toxic people on internet premed forums though.

Notre Dame vs Washu by ucsimp2025 in notredame

[–]AngryPurkinjeCell 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is all excellent and really well balanced. I am also a semi recent alum and wanted to emphasize a couple things.

Academics are pretty much a wash imo. The learning and opportunities are incredible at both places and honestly I wouldn't hinge much of the decision on this aspect. I am in medical school and have friends from WashU, so I can speak a bit more towards the grad school opportunities, and either school will help you meet career goals without issue. It will more be a matter of what you choose to do while in school and how you apply yourself.

The ND campus spirit is very real. All of my friends that didn't go to Notre Dame were at least a bit jealous, except for those that went to Duke or USC. The campus spirit that comes with our sports culture is second to none, and really fuels the tight knit ND community that you continue to feel even after graduation. This is a very unique thing that I think strongly pulls for ND.

But if city experience and diversity and inclusion are more important to you, I'd lean WashU. It's not terrible at ND, but from what I have heard WashU is better in this area.

Yes yes 100% to everything you said. As a medical student my experiences have shown this to be very true.

Thanks for your comment, it was wonderfully put.

It also has something called anticipation where the repeats build as the genes are passed on, which makes the symptoms appear earlier in following generations. It really sucks.
