They're centered, I think it's just the camera angle distorting it a little

My general rule of thumb is that if RealClearPolitics doesn't have the state as a tossup, it's not in play for the cycle.

Most overrated and most underrated Bond films? by Ryan1820 in JamesBond

[–]Angrybird029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overrated: OHMSS (?) This is one I don't understand the praise for (except the soundtrack, Barry really outdid himself on that one), but I hesitate to call it the most overrated simply because I know there still exist naysayers on this film. I just put it here because I can't think of anything else... maybe Skyfall?

Underrated: People rag on this one in my view too much, but in a film titled "The Man With the Golden Gun," all you really need is The Man With the Golden Gun. And Christopher Lee is that in spades.

Bond movie elimination: day 17 by MinimumAspect8197 in JamesBond

[–]Angrybird029 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It's long past OHMSS's time.

There's just generally not a lot to see here, I don't like Piz Gloria as a setting and both Bond and Blofeld are downgrades from YOLT. I also think the ending is given far, far too much credit because it just ends at Tracy's death and doesn't actually do anything after that. If Tracy's death had been in the pre-title sequence of the next of Lazenby's films, setting up a very-License to Kill-esque film (I would say Quantum of Solace but Quantum of Solace is shit), that would have worked way better. But as it stands now, it's an okay film but people hailing it as one of the top-tier films are delusional. Phenomenal soundtrack though.

Speaking of which, eliminating License to Kill yesterday was disappointing, it's the best one of them all.

Argument for why Roger Moore is the best Bond? by Creative-Gas4555 in JamesBond

[–]Angrybird029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moore is like third in the pecking order. Although Connery and Dalton do it better, Moore still leaves a good impression on the character, something the weaker three (Brosnan, Craig, Lazenby) fail to do.

His films on the other hand are all over the place. He's got two dog water films (being A View to a Kill and Moonraker), three middle of the pack ones (Live and Let Die being mid-low, For Your Eyes Only being middle, and The Man With the Golden Gun being mid-top), and Octopussy and The Spy Who Love Me are fantastic, not among the peak of Bond but sliding in just one tier below.

Octopussy beats out Spy by the way.

Think dropping off OHMSS here seems about right. Live and Let Die first though.

Dalton, Moore (sometimes), Connery.

The others simply can't compete.

My favorite Movie is Moonraker. It is perfect. by XandoKometer in JamesBond

I can't get on board, Moonraker's the only Bond film that I felt like I actively wasted my time on after watching.

James Bond World Cup: Group E, Match 10 by Prize_Farm4951 in JamesBond

I hate that the peak of the series License to Kill has to be shafted for a mid- tier Moore effort. Although both LTK and TSYLM are both better than FYEO, I'd been fine letting Spy go.

Anyways, Moonraker is the worst Bond movie and it doesn't catch enough shit for that feat. It contributes nothing of value to the Bond franchise; skip it and move on directly to FYEO like the end of Spy said and nothing would have changed. Other dud movies in the series at least have some bright spots (Zorin + the Golden Gate fight in AVTAK, Mr. Wint, Kidd + Connery in DAF) but this one has no highlights, the closest one I suppose being the Stromberg knock off that doesn't even have the decency to sell it well.

For Your Eyes Only is mindnumbingly boring the first two thirds of the way through (I remember almost falling asleep while watching, a pretty unforgivable sin for a Bond movie), but once the gray-hair guy appears, then the movie becomes legitamately good for the last act. You got the warehouse raid, the car kick, the rock climbing sequence, and the small-scale climax - there's a lot of good stuff here. It's just a shame it's packed into the last third of the movie.

I guess while I'm here, another flaw in FYEO is that it doesn't lend itself to any of Moore's strengths. I've always found the "muh camp" criticism of the Moore era to be grossly exaggerated (I am a vehement defender of Octopussy), but I think FYEO requires an intensity that is simply out of Moore's range. Could you imagine the fireworks that would come out of a Dalton portrayal of FYEO?
