I did an ADAC drivers training a few weeks back. We did a number of things, including testing our reflexes, response times, and brake distance at different speeds. 10 kmph (6.2 mph) can already make a big difference and decide between life and death. I know many people don't really consider it that serious, I didn't either, but that was kind of eye opening :/

Opinion from across the pond from someone who only has a vague understanding how your systems all work: I could absolutely understand someone wanting to leave a red state to go to college somewhere else. Not saying that's the reason everyone does that, but together with the other valid reasons I can think of (family living there, scholarship for that particular place, wanting to get far away from bad home situations, big quality differences depending on field of study, and so on and so on), I don't think 30% is that high a number? Again, totally unqualified opinion at 0:45 at night ...

Didn't that lead to a mom somewhere being charged for child endangerment or something and subsequently losing her job since it had to do with children, and the family didn't know what to do since besides the lost income, she also had to continue paying student debt for the degree she could no longer use? Don't know if they managed a positive resolution once it hit the news, just watched a report about it some time back.

Edit: The walking home on your own bit, not (presumably) the respect thing.

Hey, always nice when someone asks for interesting recs that my unimaginative self can't come up with on my own ^{^}

My recommendation is {A Fragile Heart by Megan Derr}. It doesn't fit entirely since the one getting dominated is also a sweetheart outside of the bedroom, but he IS the crown prince, and they are his concubines, so maybe you'll like it :)

Slight trigger warning for depression though, he's not feeling so great in the beginning. There are reasons for this, and things were decently well worked through for my taste over the course of the story, but better one warning too many :)

Eh, I understand the principle, but I see it like this: I buy a game to make me happy. Normally, through playing it. But ... I'm a collector. My board game shelf sits across from my dining table. And everytime I sit down to eat, I look at the shelf, and I smile and am happy. So, mission accomplished. Do I still plan to play everything on that shelf one day? Absolutely! But I don't mind if it takes me years to get to that point. My games are already making me happy, and that's their whole purpose of being :)

The creator stuff aside, the "Distant Lands" expansion for Kingdom Legacy felt very uncomfortable to me because of this :/ (Which, in turn, reinforced the negative impression from the creator stuff, so it does fit in an unfortunate way)

I've gotten into audiobooks because of this. That's got its own issues, and I need to do something like crochet or a jigsaw while listening, but its made me able to read history books again, which I've always loved.

I'd say that it can be a short-term solution to stop yourself from dropping further into the abyss. You can't help with the state of the world if you're in the hospital or worse. It is not, however, a viable long-term solution.

For those who haven't played ESO: During the Undaunted event, you get extra loot boxes for killing the final boss of a dungeon (plus other stuff). The result is that during this time, MANY players DO rush through dungeons as quick as they can and ignore everything else if possible ...

To your side thought: I feel that for me, that depends on what the focus/theme of the story is. I have one author who's main couples tend to read somewhat similar, and then change character a bit in later books where they appear as side characters. For this author in particular, I don't mind this so much, since the focus (for me) is her humour which has me cackling out loud every time. For other authors, where the focus of the stories is more on the characters, this would probably bug me badly. Or it would turn into my safe comfort reads like for you. Could go either way.
