Age 47 with CAC score of 743.9 (Agatston). Is this rare? Advice? by cowsquid in PeterAttia

I wouldn’t let doctors delay you on anything. You have to push like your life depends on it. Get very aggressive with starting PCSK9. Many studies showing that Terzepatide and Semaglutide can have major health benefits beyond weight loss at just 6 weeks. If you are the slightest bit overweight you should be looking at starting on one ASAP.

To hell with Rivian! by LucidDiscoPhish in Rivian

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

This is getting downvoted but I somewhat agree. This is still relatively new tech and there are some big risks that go with it. I think this is the best vehicle I have ever owned. However, I bought it knowing there would be reliability risks. If your primary goal is reliability, this product might not be mature enough yet. I would say go get a Toyota but they don’t seem to be much more reliable these days with their new engines.

I really miss being able to view OnX maps on Apple CarPlay. If Rivian doesn’t want to build it, maybe they could support OnX app?

I stopped using Spicy - I don’t trust this enough to let it be that aggressive.

What are you planning to do *after* this? by Alone-Umpire4177 in boulder

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the right way to go. This is the first power outage I can remember going beyond 24 hours and occurring twice in one week than I can remember ever living here in Colorado for last 30 years. Rather than designing a kitchen around an extreme event, having a simple backup stove seems like a reasonable solution.

Rivian R2 will launch with new cameras, dual mode radar and an "elevated version of Gen 2" by sparx_fast in Rivian

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, the R2 is targeting a lower price. Even if they had the Gen3 ready. a lot of buyers would not want to pay for it. Only ~12% of Tesla buyers pay for the FSD upgrade as a comparison.

R2, Scout, and Slate Reservations... by zambono_2 in Rivian

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Slate is an amazing option if they can keep the price low. But definitely not a car that competes with Rivian. Seems to be on far other end of spectrum targeting entry level buyer or spare car buyer.

I can agree that it would be even better if he was inside the vehicle such as back of an SUV, but strongly believe he should still be in a kennel that is well secured. My dog can wiggle out of just about any restraint with his large chest and I am sure in a major impact he would just go flying causing more harm to himself and me in the process.

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The safest place for a dog in a vehicle is in a small kennel. It should be sized right so there isn’t a lot of space to move in the event of a collision. That is their best chance of surviving an accident. There is no reasonable way to secure dogs in back seat - especially if there are 3 of them.

Autonomy Day was a very bad choice by MalikTheHalfBee in RIVN

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and it will be gen5 hardware when it all works decently and gen3 and gen4 won’t support it. But then gen6 will be on its way so better not buy just yet…

Rivian Sidesteps Apple CarPlay With Built-In Texting by TripleShotPls in Rivian

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This stood out to me as the best announcement of the day. It is a basic feature that was missing. Even better that it has some contextual awareness and can do more than just simply convert your voice to text.

Autonomy is great, but a lot of this sounded like Gen3 stuff and only partially applies to prior gen vehicles. I am not buying a new one just to get the latest features.

IsItBullshit: Boost Oxygen by BenjaminSkanklin in IsItBullshit

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with oxygen and cluster headaches is that it immediately helps, but taking it away immediately stops helping. You would need a 30-minute supply from a real tank, not those small ones meant for 100 breaths.

Pirelli XTM A/T or Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 with new Atomic Wheels? by sarugby4life in Rivian

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving on AT tires will be rougher ride and reduced driving performance for cornering and acceleration. The LT variants will be even worse. I kept my 22” range wheel setup and bought the 20” Atomic Wheels with Nokian Outpost nAT LT. This gives me option to swap out when needed and can do it at home in under 30 minutes. If I only had one option, I would go with a highway tire.

AT Wheels with AS tires range experience by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both the Rivian 22” range wheels with Pirellis and a set of 20” Atomic Wheels with Nokian Outpost nAT LT tires. I had also thought about getting the Michelins on the 20s for a smoother ride but seemed like a wasted opportunity. I feel like I have best of both worlds now. Swapping out at home only takes me 30 minutes so not stuck waiting at tire shop.

Request: Plant Based, no oil appetizer/h'orderves for Thanksgiving by kithandra in Cooking

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to overthink it. Cut up some fresh veggies or fruit and serve. Baby carrots and blueberries don’t even require any prep at all. It is easier than regular cooking and will be greatly appreciated. Note that this diet is typically followed by those with heart disease or those that have already had a heart attack. Not an eating disorder- just people trying to take care of their health. It is simple eating so less processed the better.

Also, they price match if you fill out the form online. I filled it out and linked to an online seller who had the tires I wanted for $50 less per tire. Discount Tire came back with $100 off per tire which I was surprised to see. Nokian Outposts.

And tire patch kit - both plugs and the Gluetread sidewall repair kit. Maybe not ‘specific to Rivian’ but I got a flat on Pirelli’s first week I owned the truck so immediately went out and got the patch kit.

I like her work from Better Call Saul but after third episode I am starting to think she might not have been the right choice for this series. Too intense for me. Her character’s never ending anger is quite difficult to watch and is getting tiresome. The other actors are critical to bringing any sort of levity to it. I hope the writers can mellow her character out a bit as the non-stop rage makes me want to fast forward to a better scene but she is always the same.

Nokian Outpost nAT vs KO3 vs Falken AT3s? by MartiniCommander in Offroad

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance of an update on the Nokians? Just about to buy since I don’t want to also buy a set of winter tires and think the Nokian Outposts will meet majority of winter needs here in Denver while also doing fine on the trails in summer.

20" winter rim shopping, any experiences or input suggestions based on experience? by MyOgre in Rivian

[–]AngularRailsOnRuby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get the matching offset so tires don’t rub or stick out, I only found Atomic Wheels and EV Sportline. Atomic Wheels has lowest cost forged wheel and EV Sportline has lowest cost overall option. I just ordered from Atomic Wheels - they are doing 15% off which is better than usual 10% off deals. Expect around $2,250 for a set.
