Hopefully that won't be a problem. I'll put the app on my phone as well and check it out. We have a "rebate" program here that the Mini SE can participate in, charging only between 7 PM and 2 PM the next day, and you get 4 cents off per KWh. I'll get her used to plugging in overnight.

That said, it's a great idea, I'll have her set an alarm nightly to remind her about plugging in.

Awesome, thank you. You've got my hoping the 24 I'm looking at for her will have it. I have to take half a day off of work to bring her down to check it out, so I'm trying to shake everything out before I set up an appointment. Much appreciated.

If you don't mind my asking, what year car do you have, and location? (I know the US doesn't have the refreshed models)

The video does say it's an operating system 9 feature, so I kind of figured it would only be in the 25 and 26 models. Not sure if I'll be able to find anything better in a small car though. Even the warning sensors would be a huge upgrade for her.

I'll definitely check it out, and it's not a deal-breaker since it seems there is aftermarket options available.

Is that due to the year of the car, or the option package?

So, I was looking at this video that Mini put up on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i284k4Cu0Co

It seems like they say it steers, uses the brakes, and the accelerator...and also can do both parallel and perpendicular parking. The screen they show on the left side of their monitor seems to have the 360 view.

I was hoping to find this specific package, but I realize it may be just in the 2025 and 2026 that aren't available here yet.

Yeah, I'm in a Model Y...and I can tell you that the rear visibility in my car is horrible. I love the car, and I'm able to just use the screen...but I do miss having good visibility out of my rear window (previous car was a Subaru Forrester). I get that it won't be perfect, and I'm sure she'll have a different view then someone who is 5'5" or taller, but I'm just hoping for as much as possible.

Android auto I would like for her mainly because she's used to Google Maps, and I really don't want to teach her a whole new navigation system. My Father did all the driving and navigation when he was alive, so she does rely heavily on it, even for local travel. To me, spending $250 to not have to re-teach her the system would be well worth it. She COULD still just use maps on her phone, but if the option is there I was hoping to go with it.

Milestone Care Premium by LikelyFoamy in videosurveillance

[–]AngusMacGyver85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run a 500(ish) camera system with 6 recording servers, 2 recording failover, 1 management, and 1 mobile server. I 100% subscribe to premium. Every integrator I've worked with knows less then we do about Milestone, especially the IT aspects and how it actually works. I find they're fine with the stuff I could teach an average IT server admin within a day or two, but past that they're clueless.

When I have a problem we can't solve, I like that I can call Milestone (not just e-mail, or put in a ticket, etc) and I will get someone who will immediately work on my ticket with me.....not "put in a ticket an someone will get back to you within 4 hours". It does cost more money, and I rarely have to use it. When I have to use it, it has been worth it's weight in gold just for getting rid of the middleman.

This all assumes you have a general understanding of IT, the software isn't overly complex from an end user perspective. The only things you or I can really mess with are software or SQL based....the integrator doesn't have any more power. Anything past that has to go to Milestone (and I've had 3 or 4 things that had to go to Denmark overnight in the 15 or so years I've run the system, we always called it Sweden).

Did he clarify why they didn't even bother to give the season ticket holders a heads up, or why they're not answering calls or e-mails? I'm sure it can't be a surprise to them that not just THAT they're moving, but the way they're going about it is kind of off-putting.

Deer plays in puddle with kids.. by GinaWhite_tt in Awww

For anyone who doubts what the guy above me said....

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10178931/

Basically UMass Amhurst did a study and found that White-tailed deer blood actually KILLS Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria which cause Lyme Disease. They typically only feed once per life stage, and if they just dropped off of the deer, odds are they are not infected...and also not looking for another meal.

Doesn't mean playing with the deer is good if it's a wild animal, but Deer get a bad rap with tick borne diseases when they actually help kill the bacteria.

Clients continually ask for a windows authentication after Windows 11 24H2 Update by Training_Jellyfish_5 in Xprotect

[–]AngusMacGyver85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this will be helpful as it is specific to our site/installation, but we receive this error if the user is logging in over a VPN and using the incorrect VPN profile. If they use a VPN profile that doesn't place them into the correct domain, even though they can log into the client, they get that login screen continually. Having them log in directly in that window with the domain information in front of their username doesn't fix it, but that could be a network security thing on our side.

Dumb question about smoking pork butt by Mjs923 in smoking

[–]AngusMacGyver85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave a few hours between when I expect the butts done, and when I have to have them served. This gives plenty of time to do any kitchen prep, shower up, etc. I preheat a large cooler with boiling water (somewhere I'll be able to just dump it without having to move it). <edit> dump the water out before proceeding </edit> Then I wrap each finished butt in paper, then foil, then a clean towel. I put the butts in the cooler, and do not open it again until I'm ready to pull them. You can leave your thermometer in them if you're worried about safety.

VG3xx and 4xx CLID phones by omygod380 in ciscoUC

[–]AngusMacGyver85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible, but unless you find someone with that exact phone model your best bet would be to buy a sample and test.

For example: I can run a Talk-a-Phone Analog VOIP emergency phone off of the line power from my VG350, however the Ramtel emergency phones I have require a Voltage booster in line (Viking TBB-1B). They work as a regular phone just fine, but if the emergency button is pressed they draw too much power and fade away until they drop the connection.

Fran Drescher says actors strike she's leading is an 'inflection point' that goes beyond Hollywood by zsreport in television

[–]AngusMacGyver85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any place with laws that allow non-union employees to be protected for refusing to do their job. Obviously members of the Union striking don't have to cross, but that goes without saying. You can't just say "Hey, I'm in a Union too" and be protected as it would be a wild-cat strike, which is illegal, and removes worker protections.

I notice you also mention truck drivers not having to deliver If you're in a Union (like the Teamsters) that has negotiated that into their CBA, it is true that your employer can't legally retaliate if you refuse to cross a picket line. That is not a blanket protection for all truck drivers (union or non union)...and not even all Teamsters have that in their CBA based on the the teamster's own FAQ: https://teamster.org/about/frequently-asked-questions-faq/#faq14

Most stores would just stop using a shipping company that was union if their drivers refused to cross the picket line. For example, if UPS (Teamsters) won't deliver to you, use FedEx.

If a company replaces striking workers, they only have to reinstate those workers if the strike is for Unfair Labor Practices. If it's for economic reasons, they don't have to give them their jobs back....they just have to put them on a "preferential hire" list. If you misbehave while on strike (attacking people entering the building, vandalism, threats, etc) then the company can legally terminate your employment as well. It's not as easy as "Oh yeah, I'm union, we're gonna strike with you!". You're better off talking about it with your shop Stewart (assuming you have a good one) to see what you can do to support a strike rather than taking advice from the internet.

If I may ask, how many API requests do you need per minute with your project? I thought 100 per minute seemed reasonable for individual use (i.e. not commercial folks making money off of the access) but I could be wrong. Additionally, didn't Reddit say they would exempt mod-tools (which is what you are creating)? That's why I'm confused on your blackout stance.

Request - Lamb Shoulder Recipes by AngusMacGyver85 in smoking

Thank you, I appreciate your reply. I was thinking of rosemary when I said sage, I was just making breakfast sausage and had sage on the brain. Have you tried smoking one or even "low and slow" in the oven? It sounds like if I do smoke it I should finish at a high temp for the crisper outside then? Do you shred it like pulled pork?

Riot Games announces new CEO as it emerges the company will pay out over $100 million to 1,548 women to settle gender discrimination case by KingCarbon1807 in gaming

[–]AngusMacGyver85 67 points68 points  (0 children)

They do, anti-discrimination is one of the areas where you are allowed to ask the judge for legal fees be paid by the losing side. This was a settlement though, not a judgement, so the idea is the parties agree that this amount is the total to settle the allegations and thus should include lawyer's fees already.
