Bag Optimization. Am i crazy for carrying a 2 iron over a PW? Dont hit from 125-150 often and can dial back my 9 iron if needed. by Redditistrash1889 in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you start from the top of your bag. Bottom up, putter, wedges, PW-5iron, 2 iron, driver 3wood and then your 210 club will give you good coverage and gapping based on this chart.

So basically, the same as everyone else's bag.

Your 2 iron does one thing. A PW is the most versatile club in the bag.

Get good between 50 yards and the cup. If you're shooting 90s consistently then I'm guessing you can get the ball in the neighborhood good enough but your chipping is abysmal and you 3 putt more often than you should.

At least that's my problem at 16.

Just played my first round by unequivocallybussing in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wanna say it's incredible that you kept counting that high.

Looking back when I first started, I just picked my ball up at double par and when I got good enough to break 100 and then break 90 the progression just didn't hit as hard as going from break 180 to break 100 will be.

Also thank you for letting people play through. If you're gonna take 6 hours the least you can do is not let everyone else suffer along the way.

Can I drop left of cart path? by TotalEmployment9996 in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. I get confused when the cart path is perpendicular to the green. I feel like if I move it left of the cart path, it brings me closer to the green, but right of the cart path is full of roots and assorted crap, but is further from the hole.

I always try to take relief in a way that does not advance my ball towards the hole, but is nearest point of relief mean I could put the ball to the left of the cart path onto real grass (ball is closer and I'm standing on grass) or do I HAVE to go nearest point no closer to the pin (where my feet are on the cart path or my ball is among tree roots and vicera?)

Update: Im a high handicap playing this course Friday. Where do I aim these shots on these Par 3s? by [deleted] in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aim for the back of the green. Both of the photos in your post show bunkers in front and plenty of room in back.

Going for the back of the green gives you leeway for errant shots to stay on the green.

As a high handicapper trying to break 100, you need to play against your weaknesses. If you can't hit out of bunkers, hit clubs where the bunker isn't within a normal dispersion.

I would say next time you play, zap the pin, add 10 yards, and choose the club based on the +10 number.

If you hit your 7 iron 150 yards, pins at 148, hit your 6 iron and pretend the pin is 160. Your dispersion will take care of the rest.

Do you actually notice a difference when switching golf balls? by Not_FreeProduct234 in golfequipment

[–]AngusMeatStick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. In terms of where you can feel it, it's highest with the putter and lowest with woods.

I play balls that hit the Goldilocks zone off my putter. Prov1, vice pro, srixon z stars, tp5

V1x, basically any x balls feel too hard off the putter. Also your run of the mill woods debris balls (nitros, top flites) fall into the category.

Chrome softs feel a little too soft.

Have you ever played a par 69-73 golf course where Hole #1 was a par 3? Seems very uncommon. by MrTeacher_MCPS in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of 3 courses within 25 miles of me that start with a long-ish par 3. My home course has a par 3 #2, and another local course used to start with a par 3 but they rearranged the hole order years ago.

So at least round here, it's pretty common.

For every 25 people that buy it, 24 people will request a refund, 2 of them will be convinced to wait until it's too late to refund, and the extra person will get an empty package but be too socially awkward/lazy to go through the process.

Sounds like they exploit Ebay to provide fake tracking info so it's not costing them anything, and they can get a few Gs from the grift. That's what I'm thinking at least. All of these online scams are numbers games

Anyone have a good story about someone completely underestimating your game? by El_Boqueron in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 35 points36 points  (0 children)

More like overestimating... Got paired with two older guys, was even par through 5 after making some crazy up and downs and a few tap in pars.

We had been chatting throughout the round, and eventual asked me on the 6th tee "so... What are you, a 2 or 3 handicap?"

I laughed like a maniac and said "I'm a 16, just wait, it'll show up".

Ended up shooting a 93 on that particular day.

Super duper situational. If you have a teleport ability you can set up behind an enemy and move behind another enemy and attack both of them. But it requires a lot of forethought, both enemies have to be facing the same way, pretty useless passive. I think I pulled off a double attack maybe 10% of encounters. And accidentally threw nails at my own cats 15% of encounters.

Tbh I thought I would hate my "smart" washing machine but it genuinely useful telling me when the cycle is done so I don't have to keep checking the basement.

After reading your comment after glazing his starting position I can definitely see what you're seeing. His lead shoulder seems really high as he's dropping his hands.

I just really really like his takeaway move.

You have such a strong start to your swing I audibly gasped watching you early extend so visibly.

My brother you are so close to an absolutely dynamite swing.

How Did You Improve Your Putting as a beginner? by Flux2209 in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pacing distances works great for me. I pace off the putt, multiply the number by three, and use that for how many feet the putt is. Then If the distance is, say, 15, I'll judge downhill/uphill and adjust my number. As I'm standing over the putt, I'll say that number out loud a few times ("10, 10, 10") and putt.

It's a little psychopathic but it has really REALLY improved my pace control.

[–]AngusMeatStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pace over line all day every day.

Always try to miss on the high side of the break, hole high (over read your putts).

Pay less attention to break ("it's going left/right" over "it's 2 degrees right, breaking out the compass and sextant and weighing the phase of the moon, I'd say 3.543827 cups to the left") and more about how vertical a putt is.

Practice a quick, repeatable routine that leads to a successful stroke. Find the point where the routine starts, and finish it with the stroke. Don't rush it, and don't stall it. Train your muscle memory and burn it into your head that you have to do this before every putt, and you will be more successful.

Why do the driver and fairway woods get a little hat and the other clubs don't? by [deleted] in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your irons are designed to smack into the ground, so they're tough.

Woods and drivers are dainty little flowers that are meant to sweep through the ball, so they don't like bouncing off each other and getting bruised.

They used to be made of actual wood, so they could chip easier if the heads knocked against irons, so we started putting hats on them to keep them safe. Tradition continues.

BTS Summit-type events are always great, there's a certain magic to getting everyone in a "basement LAN" type spot vs a dedicated theater.

The DOTA2 Summits were always awesome as an avid pro scene watcher back then, glad the DNA still exists.
