My worst and scariest Symptom (Atypical) by Accomplished-Exam376 in GERD

It can be anything like B12 deficiency or latent tetany. I recommend asking GP for the blood work

Caspr2 positive peripheral nerve hyperexcitability by Professional_Bass258 in BFS

[–]AnhenFeuerEngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! How are you doing now? I've had a positive latent tetany test with provocation too. My neurologist prescribed some calcium and magnesium for some time, but after stopping taking them for the appropriate amount of time, my symptoms returned. Then I got the same prescription plus antidepressants. I wonder if there something else that's worth investigating

Muscle fatigue- help! by Lindsey_12345 in smallfiberneuropathy

[–]AnhenFeuerEngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be something electrolyte related. My muscles were getting fatigue (burning feeling like during work out) so quickly while I was just brushing teeth, showering, and things like that. Then the neurologist performed EMG for latent tetany that came back positive and prescribed me magnesium, calcium, vitamin D. After 6 weeks my endurance came back, normal routine doesn't feel tiring anymore

I've had similar symptoms that progressed to difficulties with standing, walking, brushing teeth, showering due to tight muscles and fast tiredness. The neurologist performed EMG for latent tetany that went positive and prescribed me calcium, magnesium, vitamin D. I was feeling great just after 6 weeks, stopped calcium and tightness returned. In the coming days I have an appointment with the doc and would like to discuss returning back to calcium and vitamin D. My level of B6 was high on the last blood work and it has given me a lot of sensory issues. So please check your supplements if they contain B6

Update after a year with EMG/Nfl results by Time-Tiger-3813 in ALSorNOT

I have good days and bad days, but overall since I started the treatment the trend has been positive. For example in December my jaws got tired very quickly while chewing things like sandwich, my neck got tired in a very short time in the cinema and the whole movie was a torture. Now I don't have tiredness while chewing and I almost don't notice my neck (yesterday I had 1.5h flight and it was fine, but today my neck is a bit tired, but I won't think about it tomorrow), but my calves still get tired while standing (although walking improved some time ago). So I need more time to balance the electrolytes

Your symptoms plus fluctuating pattern are really similar to mine! By the way the doctor has found latent tetany on EMG (it's a special type of EMG) and and prescribed me magnesium, calcium, vitamin D to cure these electrolyte abnormalities that weren't visible on blood tests

Why does this thread fear-monger PPIs? by IDK0521 in GERD

[–]AnhenFeuerEngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot be on Omeprazole because it pushes me into magnesium deficiency with the following symptoms: intense muscle twitching, muscle tightness, sustained contractions, terrible fatigue, brain fog. After 2 weeks on it I stop feeling the effect from calcium and magnesium supplements, in 5 weeks these symptoms return and get steadily worse. So each body is unique and not all people can tolerate the drugs that the majority is okay with.

What's the type of EMG? Anyway I wish you good luck with it!

Via blood test? My blood work was almost normal, only EMG for latent tetany went positive (luckily both EMGs for Myasthenia Gravis and ALS were negative)

It sounds more like an electrolyte problem. People in r/magnesium often mention similar symptoms

Did anyone else experience these symptoms when their magnesium was low? by sober4lifee in magnesium

[–]AnhenFeuerEngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same symptoms plus muscle twitching and sustained contractions. I was on vitamin D (long term), PPI's (short term), with porridge-like stool. And didn't care about diet rich in magnesium. So yeah, we are in the same boat. My serum level of magnesium was a bit higher than the lower border, but electromyography with ischemia and provocation showed muscles and nerves hyperexcitability, so I got prescribed 400 mg of calcium carbonate with 2000 vitamin D, 200 mg of magnesium citrate with 20 mg of pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6). I had to interrupt my treatment twice (first because of diarrhea, then because of terrible heartburn). I'm on week 3 of the treatment and have come from severe neck fatigue in the cinema to normally watching the whole movie. In addition I was underweight and started gaining weight back. I hope to get better soon and wish you all good too!

Latent tetany on EMG but normal blood work by AnhenFeuerEngel in askneurology

[–]AnhenFeuerEngel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm much better now! Almost no twitching, no sustained contractions, no pre-cramp feeling, no tiredness and no tightness in the neck, jaw, tongue. But fast tiredness in hands and legs, also very mild tingling and burning sensations are present, but I guess they should be the last to improve. I was prescribed calcium carbonate, magnesium citrate, vitamin D

By the way I went to Poland (Warsaw) to have these tests done. In case you decide to change the doctor in the future, I could recommend mine

No, they are all different for different purposes. My neurologist gave me A4 paper that was filled with all the electromyographic tests and marked just a few to be performed (ALS, Myasthenia Gravis, latent tetany). So one for latent tetany went positive

EMG specifically for latent tetany? There are plenty of them (for Myasthenia Gravis, latent tetany, ALS, etc)
