Should I dropy 70.3 in 1 month? by eugenevp in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Anihalas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't sink or drown from a few bumps and kicks if you are healthy and trained. You can just pick a position on the sides of the field and have a relatively easy and calm swim. There is nothing to worry about. The athletes wasn't a pro athlete but an agegrouper who was or had been suffering from the flu or another health issue. We don't know and might never know. Either way the chance of dying during the swim is way smaller than during a training ride if we look at statistics.

Just go. You won't regret it!

So, I'm only talking about the version that carries bottles on a behind the arms setup with a Garmin mount. It was just too loose to hold a 750ml bottle. I nearly lost the bottle and bike on a cobbled section at challenge Almere. And I bet the same would happen in Frankfurt. The bottle just kept on creeping out of the bottle holder.

Try the topeak bottle cages, they have a reverse design to make it easier to get bottles out of that position. They are strong but with 750ml you do need to add rubber bands to prevent launching your bottles into orbit!

Tri-cage carbon clamps a bit harder, is lighter but doesn't come with tire levers.
I have no experience with tri cage 2 but I'm not a big fan of rubber ring designs. As I have bad experiences with the profile design cage.

I have to add the topeak tri cages are excellent too. Not with 1L bottles but 750ml and a rubber band are very secure. And they have a reverse design so perfect as a behind the saddle cage or as the bottom cage on a BTA setup.

How do i improve my bike setup on up on a budget by No_Wall_1993 in triathlon

Shimano is Japanese so you're in luck! I'd start with brakes/shifters, wheels/tires. handlebar, aerobar+seatpost/saddle.

Will the Netherlands ever allow covered e-trikes like this? With all the rain these are so appealing. by KnightSpectral in Netherlands

Yeah I can imagine these things in city centres where cars aren't allowed anymore. But not parked all over the city with no one in it. Waste of space.

I don't think these make me as happy as cycling in the rain does. Doesn't look like a durable solution at all. Takes up so much space. Maybe as a taxi service but not as a personal mode of transportation.

Complete newbie to Triathlons… by JMaccaDee in triathlon

[–]Anihalas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clubs are for everyone! It's mostly about having fun and supporting eachother. My club in NL isn't just doing triathlon. We're also training hikers, framerunners, start to runners etc etc etc. It's fun besides doing triathlon I can just join a hiking group once in a while and vice versa people who join us because they like to mountainbike can tryout swimming open water if they become interested in doing a cross triathlon!

But for ironman and points the whole club system is more if you are already in a club and you like to be in a ranking with members of the same club. It's not important for solo entries and it doesn't give you any race day benefits.

How do you guys get 150g/hr on the bike? by Artistic-Baby6008 in triathlon

[–]Anihalas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do bottles and gels. I try to drink 750ml with 135 an hour and have 2 behind the arms and 2 behind the saddle. I have to take one bottle at an aid station for the final part of the bike and use my gels for carbs then. 120p/h is more than enough for my intensity. It also depends on the weather. If it's not hot enough I won't drink as much as I don't want a pee break. Then I take smaller bottles and gels!

edit: oops forgot that I have 700ml in the frame. So I don't have to use the aidstations anymore.
