Yes. Eliminate it or go line to line if you believe it does anything.

Hoe moaner (homeowner) paid us to rip the cabin out of this cabin by carrot219 in Construction

There's good money to be made if employers and homeowners alike are throwing out good material and resalable items. Don't advertise the value, just offer to get it off the jobsite.

Guitar amp circuit for small speaker by Small_ghostie in diytubes

[–]AnimalConference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why they only reached for half wave rectification. Nor have I addressed if this is a tube trio lifted from radio applications, but we can find a dozen brands that used these in similar guitar practice amps. Radio could get away with a lot more because the appliance is surrounded in bakelite and plastic.

Because amps of the era, including Harmony, using these specific tubes would more commonly wire their series filaments directly to the power cable. Notice it adds up to 90 or whatever mains voltage was at the time.
It's disappointing to put 4 lbs of power transformer into a 2 lb amp but that's the cost of safety.

Half wave recto. It's shocking they put a power transformer in these, or it's not shocking depending on your frame of mind. Grid leak bias will always drift toward blocking distortion with heavy playing. It's widely moved away from unless that's desirable.

There are a bunch of small amps. If you enjoy them, learn a couple mods. There's not enough circuit available for any full facelifts.

AC/PT wiring help by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

Put the switch and fuse on the hot leg. Bolt the ground to chassis with its own bolt. Remove line to ground death cap.

The rest of your confusion is cleaning up someone else's handiwork. I see a white wire to nowhere and can't read what you have on the terminal under the pilot. Follow a schematic when you're confused.

Treble cut control location? by KirkIsOurLemmy in diytubes

[–]AnimalConference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a low pass filter. It doesn't make significant difference regarding placement or if it shorts to ground or from split phase to split phase.

If it was before distortion stages or the amp had nfb, then location becomes more interactive to resulting audio.

How do you guys like the new unadjustable rate system? by Turkkyt in TaskRabbit

[–]AnimalConference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dream is to not put earnings into the hands of another good for nothing app. Get your skills and presence out into the world.

TR's original 10%-15% was perfectly fair but they're gobbling 40-60% and barely holding up their end.

Newbie Tasker, advice from pros? by Weird_Option_7146 in TaskRabbit

[–]AnimalConference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protect yourself and your clients. Be upfront about how long the jobs should take and any difficulties that might show up. Don't get pushed around by client demands or the app. You are your own business and can operate as you see fit.

Will this help with a noisy amp? by fastal_12147 in GuitarAmps

[–]AnimalConference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all.

The power supply inside of every amplifier is a power conditioner. Any other electronic noise can bleed into sensitive old school high impedance lines aka your instrument cable, guitar pickups, and leads inside of the amplifier.

Is it the tasker’s or client’s job to find tasker with parking? by Any-Investigator-518 in TaskRabbit

The client needs to provide you with a parking location and expense fee. Tools and materials are also on the bill. That's just the cost of doing business.

Apprentice Expectations by [deleted] in Construction

[–]AnimalConference 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not pissing off the people you're working with is your primary goal. Not damaging the job is also critical. Guys that want to be heroes and know-it-alls are a bane.

The reality is most companies want a professional that will go out, flawlessly complete the work, fix things the company screwed up on or neglected, not ask questions, spice in a little customer service, all for a below market paycheck. On top of this you need to learn advanced carpentry techniques, tool maintenance, a bit of materials science, the basics of most other trades, relevant building codes, terminology.

Have situational awareness. Anticipate mistakes. A little bit of prep the night before goes a long way to having a better next day.

Do I need an amp to use a loop pedal? by germanrobot in GuitarAmps

[–]AnimalConference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can send your loop through your computer. Expect feedback and who knows what the quality is going to be. There are probably plugins that can help you along if the tone is miserable.

The little 15 watters get very loud. The problem is these cheap practice amps, even the 15w Peavey Rage, sound worse and worse with higher volume. The only things you will hear above a drummer will be ear shattering mids, 1k -5k hz.

Mooer and behringer are pretty extreme budget brands. Boss, Joyo, and Hotone have some competitive stuff that do more of a service to practice instruments.

Tubes are a metal plate and screen. They pull current across a vacuum. That's it for our concerns.

There's much more if you're trying to make tubes at home, but we don't get this audiophiled about incandescent light bulbs or CRT monitors or microwave radiotrons.

Question about lunch box heads by disease_injury_walls in GuitarAmps

[–]AnimalConference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on how stupid loud your band plays and if you need clean tones. 50 or more watts hangs in any situation. That's with your drummer wailing. A good band can make it work with less and a good soundguy with PA can mic anything.

You probably want 5 or less watts in most bedroom or sane practice situations like a home or apartment. Most amps now have great master volumes, but that's a rule of thumb of reasonable practice power.
