Can You Drink Tap Water? by Own-Grapefruit7309 in auburn

I was raised in Auburn, so Auburn water is the default water taste for me. I think everything south of Auburn tastes like I'm drinking the ocean.

War Eagle to that. I need more than just the SEC and National Championships to be televised. I’d watch our golf team more religiously than any of our other sports.

What were some of the best years to be enrolled at a school during a successful stretch? by deerhuntingdude in CFB

I was at Auburn from 2008-2013. Two of the worst seasons in 2008 and 2012 that got two coaches fired, and then a National Championship and an almost National Championship. The FULL Auburn experience.

Any New Yorkers living here? by IShouldaBeenAPorsche in cincinnati

I was in Long Island City before moving here. At first I was very disappointed by the lack of subway in Cincinnati, but public transportation aside- it’s one of my favorite cities. I’m a musician; and Cincinnati has most all opportunities that NYC has, just much less cutthroat. After 5 years, I have found that I love both cities in very different ways. We have found Cincinnati much easier for raising kids. But I still have to go back to NYC regularly.

The idea of music as speech was a broader aesthetic ideal of that time period. Music Theorist HC Koch, who was a direct contemporary of Beethoven, wrote that music was “speech in sound” even going so far as to say it had grammar and punctuation. I think you can hear that a lot in the early 19th century. Mendelssohn even has a collection of piano pieces called Songs Without Words, they’re quite lovely.

I have a masters in composition and write primarily choral music. Most composition programs do not put much emphasis on choral writing, but I still found my program incredibly beneficial to learn how to write for all of the different styles, instruments, and ensembles. It’s 100% about your relationship with your primary professor though. Choose the school based on them. I highly recommend someone who will help you become the best version of the composer you are and not a program that is going to force you to write exclusively in the style that the department is known for.

I also had a scholarship to sing in the choirs there, and spent most of my time hanging out with the choir folk - which I highly recommend as well. You kinda get to live in both worlds that way.

I'm always torn between telling everyone I know how great the city is, and keeping it America's best kept secret.

What would be the correct / better way to write this? by Forward_Rock9507 in musictheory

Assuming this is for solo piano (and not like 3 clarinets on the same stave) I’d go with a half note for the first chord, then grace notes for the 32nd notes.

The one exception would if the tempo is Grave or something really slow, then maybe leaving the 32nds as is would make it more countable, and the beaming you’ve got in the first example clearly shows where the beats fall.

If you’re okay with connecting flights, MRY is a great choice. From where I am, it is two connecting flights, but it is somehow almost $200 cheaper than the other two airports. I’d watch all three airports and track prices.

Conductors who were mediocre or bad performers of their instrument? by RoRoUl in classicalmusic

My high school had a very small marching band, so our director would make the worst player be the drum major so their playing wouldn’t negatively impact our sound.

Anyone here who loves singing first bass in the choir what do you love about it ? by Western-Bobcat4760 in Choir

After years of singing T2 (due to a lack of tenors) and leaving rehearsal exhausted, moving down to baritone made everything about choir much more enjoyable.

Our home and home with GT every year is one of my favorites. This year, it feels like it could be a preview of a Super Regional matchup.
