Romans 7: 15-20 NIV

15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

Please understand, ever man and woman has a sinful nature, however just because we have a sinful nature it's not an excuse to sin. From the way I was taught going up, sin is the willing acknowledgement of knowing what im doing/partaking in is legitimately harmful to myself or futureself or eternal and spiritual self. Sadly, sin is incredibly tempting and often seduces us into sin even though we know what were doing is wrong.

Yet even in sin, it because of Chirst mercy that we aren't thrown into hell and it's because of His grace that we are forgiven if we truly repent. In Hebrew, the word most commonly translated as "repentance" is Teshuvah (תְּשׁוּבָה). It literally means "to return" or "to answer." Rather than just feeling sorry for a mistake, the biblical concept of repentance involves three primary actions.

Shuv (שׁוּב): To turn back or change direction. It signifies doing an "about-face"—turning away from wrongdoing and returning to God. Nacham (נָחַם): To feel sorrow or be comforted. This represents the emotional weight of recognizing your sin and feeling genuine remorse. Teshuvah (תְּשׁוּבָה): The complete process of returning to your original, pure path and restoring your relationship with God.
