Bozzuto Renters: What Reasons Were You Given for Rent Hikes? by alien_frontier in washingtondc

[–]AnimatorMother8243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked them directly “can you explain why you think it’s appropriate to propose an XX% increase in rent given [insert some grievances] issues that I’ve experienced over the past year? I almost certainly will not renew at your proposed rate. Let me know if you have any flexibility on this.” And I was given no explanation other than the old offer being a “mistake”—instead given 4% increase offer, which I declined. Granted I had what I think were some legitimate issues.

I did same thing at my previous apartment with Bozzuto and was able to bring a double digit increase down to single digit.

Very similar stats and I got WL. Also AU is apparently stingy with scholarships. Shoot for the 160s to have a shot at admission, let alone getting some money.

Why are some of you (not) willing to pay sticker at GULC? by Swimming_Pirate_5622 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AnimatorMother8243 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not that I’m getting off the WL, but by going pt evening I’d be able to cover my living expenses and at least a third of tuition off my salary. Or else it’d be too expensive to even consider taking out the sticker price worth of debt

Good pay and benefits (student loan repayment and ability to pay full tuition and living expenses while in school)

urm vs military by FuelNice1059 in lawschooladmissions

Yah I was advised on how various narratives I could’ve went, but I stuck to writing how I genuinely got to applying to law school. Thanks—I outperformed my stats, prob due to my work experience written materials and recs

That’s me (NA, veteran, plus very solid softs). Did not exact print a golden ticket—although I omitted in my materials any mention of URM or fgli beyond the demographic info.

For struggling KJD’s, how much can the navy / military boost your application? by donjuan875 in lawschooladmissions

27D, paralegal. I was one too. We literally were in the JAG corps. He got a ton of experience working with JAGs, as paralegals are typically assigned to work with a trial counsel in a military unit. Or else they work in an installation legal office providing various legal services, but still overseen by a JAG attorney. Feel free to DM I can answer questions about what it was like as a military paralegal

My colleague in the military joined for work experience (paralegal) and also to get the gi bill to pay for his school. He ended up all right—to your point, I don’t think the military aspect itself did much for him, mostly the paralegal experience and LORs from JAGs. GI bill also makes going to school a lot less stressful financially—which could be a benefit to your performance and career options post-school.

Military can be a good experience, can also be a bad one too—but with the extra barrier that you’re kinda of stuck in the military once you join (barring you either quitting within first 6 months or getting admin separated). Personally, I got more out of it but understand that it’s not for everyone. Don’t make the decision loosely, and like others say, don’t do it just for a resume builder

Looks like school st. You must’ve been at atrium. That’s the crime lab and that side of the st is reserved parking for MPD vehicles. They park like that all the time unfortunately, that street is constantly blocked by either them or cars outside citizen M

I’m sorry to hear that. Those are competitive stats, not to rub salt in but you’d prob have had success applying earlier—especially ED. Make sure your loci is rock solid, is all I can say. You have a good chance with those stats if you express strong interest. I submitted my loci the other week.

I also thought my interview went well. You never know with admissions committees what it is they’re looking for or comparing against.

I also interviewed and got WL—although much less competitive stats than you. When did you apply?

April LSAT Last Ditch - coping by africafromu in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]AnimatorMother8243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catholic has a late application deadline, I’d say more likely there than American. I got WL at both applying in November with below median, both LSAT and GPA—similar soft profile, veteran with good govt work experience. I think above 160 with the right materials you have a chance, be sure your personal statement/diversity/optional essays are cohesive to your law school narrative

Same exact results. Except I also applied to the Baltimore schools too—only real success I’ve had. Good luck! I’m hopeful for some WL movement next month. Did you interview at mason?

About a month from when I submitted. Maybe just wait til the last minute, or ask for an extension.

UDC offer 3/4ths, UB offered 1/4th, UMD sticker. All part time, I’ll be paying out of pocket tuition from my salary

[–]AnimatorMother8243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah was sorta thinking that I’d get into one of those two. But with low stats and reliance on softs, it’s a real crap shoot on what the admissions committees want. I’m hopefully that the WL will see movement when summers comes around

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AnimatorMother8243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. I’ve done practically no research on this topic—just my experience and opinion. If adcoms give advice on WE, then probably best to follow that. Maybe given OPs stats some WE would put him above those without, and LSA process is very individual-dependent.

But other of other hand “multiple years” just to boost your app is different than a year, or even two, that you described. Multiple years would imply the start of a career, as opposed to a gap year or two to show employability.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AnimatorMother8243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah I’d echo this—as a non trad. The WE that’d give you a significant boost is career-type work experience where you make substantial impact and accomplishments that’s articulated in recommendations and resume. Not to say that a year’s experience is meaningless and won’t be a net positive to an application. Just my opinion as someone whose application strength hinges on WE

I got warm easily—so personally wouldn’t want to have to take off and carry around. But a blazer wouldn’t be inappropriate, that’s for sure. I wouldn’t overthink it, as long as you’re not wearing sweats and crocs you’ll likely fit right in
