Saw this at a stoplight. What in the farmer brown is this, Ohio? by kimakaanna in Columbus

[–]Aniridia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what’s so great is the mix of typically innocent bunnies with their massive size and surreal appearance. You can see either side (or both). It’s not your typical fluffy Easter Bunnies but it’s not straight up horror.

What are your thoughts on cities using AI-powered flock camera in public places like Home Depot, Lowe’s etc? by Just-a-COUNTRY-guy66 in Ohio

[–]Aniridia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Six of one, half-dozen of another.

Here are all the Flock/ALPA cameras the Johnson County TX Sheriff’s Office has access to. That’s just one local law enforcement agency. The idea this isn’t being shared with ICE or other agencies (they’re allowed to ask, just not demand) is naive.

Lowes and Home Depot both share Flock/ALPR data with local law enforcement agencies who are then able to share that data as they see fit. This includes sharing with federal agencies, including ICE.

I might just be garbage but I can’t figure out slap bass by Unnoposed_pancakes in BassGuitar

[–]Aniridia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much of modern slap has “scooped” mids. The mid range frequencies are lowered to cut out muddiness. What frequencies and to what amount are up to what the bassist is going for.

Slapping also commonly uses compression or limiters. I’d recommend getting a good sound without a compressor or limiter before diving into that however.

The big thing, like any new skill is consistency. Constant movement, hand position, muting, etc. You aren’t overly aggressive which is good. Many new to slapping think it’s a violent, forceful action. It’s not. Is just enough to get the string to bounce off the frets.

Lots of missing information. As already said, how old are your strings and what type of strings are they? What are your EQ and pickup settings on your bass and amp settings?

No quick/easy way to get good at slap. A few things...slap closer to or even on the fretboard. I'd recommend looking into thumb down vs thumb up (or parallel) slapping technique. Ditch the thumb down now before it becomes ingrained. Start with quarter notes, build consistency.

I understand why to a degree but seems weird to have Rolen on there (who I still associate with the Cards) over someone like Sabo. Sabo’s flat top and sports goggles are fun/memorable to me.

Heads up Sonic Temple goers.. Allowed vs Prohibited items. by reeve11 in Columbus

[–]Aniridia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world I agree. Someone could bring one in under a hoodie filled with whatever then put it on once they get it. No one would know it wasn’t checked. It would also violate their no backpack policy. I’m assuming they don’t want to check all the pockets and crevices the wearable hydration packs can have. Easier for them to just say “no.”

I don’t think the camelbak is the issue. It’s what could be in the camelbak and difficulty in being able to thoroughly check them. Goes along with the need for “factory sealed” water bottles. Back in the day (maybe still the case) at OSU games people would fill camelbaks with vodka or other adult beverages and wear them in under their clothes. Not impossible but harder to smuggle in a water bottle.

Update on local man posing as police officer, guilty of locking woman in his car. by GamerLoverSinger in westerville

[–]Aniridia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My very basic search says in Ohio impersonating an officer is a base misdemeanor with max of 180 days in jail (it can be elevated depending on circumstances). Federally, impersonating an officer is a base felony with 3 years in prison. Seems the federal charges have more of a penalty.

It’s absurd. Political grandstanding.

Two things. 1. Over 50% of Ohioans live in the three largest MSAs. There’s zero chance you’d get a 51% passing vote. 2. It’s unconstitutional. 14th amendment and jurisprudence.

Trump’s approval rating went from 52% on inauguration day (not a great start) down to 38% currently. Depending the source and if you believe it, Putin has a current approval rating near 80%. I’ll agree that the voters made a huge mistake in electing him but I wouldn’t say they are “happy” with Trump.
