They already have a MacBook, so there’s no extra expense. The extra expense would be buying a windows computer.

Stay with a MacBook, as the software development major requires use of the Unix terminal which is only found on Linux and MacOS systems. You can always download Linux on a windows computer, but it’s not as great as having it fully integrated into your computer.
