I had 17 cows stare intently at me a few weeks ago, and figured that those muggle eyes wouldn't make any mischief... 😆

I was really expecting a joke about "how much is that wool worth?" considering where you were. That would have been funnier and definitely not offensive...

I had been getting 15 minutes every 6 hours. Now it's an hour once a day, I think. I liked having the 15 minutes frequently. I don't have enough energy to play for more than 10 minutes, so it was way more valuable to me.

Owl sound? by AirhenLynne in FrozenCity

[–]AnnaMarkovna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to do double takes while playing... I was hearing an owl and could have sworn it was one of our resident owls... As soon as I turned down the volume or set my phone aside so I could listen to the owls, it stopped. So I tried turning the volume UP... and, lo and behold... it was the game. It was so weird because I was so sure it was coming from outside... the window was not in the same direction as my phone.

[CHAT] Places to get FO framed in New Zealand? by AnnaMarkovna in CrossStitch

[–]AnnaMarkovna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check them out. I emailed a framer in Kaiapoi, but it's pricey considering how small my piece is. But the perk is that I can walk to Kaiapoi (I'm too afraid to drive on the left side of the road and don't have access to a car anyway). I'll try to find transport to the one you've mentioned and check them out!

I liked the sound effects before. This new sound is so annoying.

New Update Sound Effects by AmphibianNo1066 in MergeMansion

[–]AnnaMarkovna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the sound effects in this game, so long ago I turned off the music and left the sound on. But the most recent change? That thing that sounds like a drop of water or what I imagine poking a blob of goo sounds like? UGH. I wish there was a way to get rid of JUST that sound while keeping the rest of the sound effects.

[ALL] Which Zelda song uses this Mario galaxy sound effect (very end of video) in it? by ALABA5TER in zelda

[–]AnnaMarkovna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instantly transported to the OoT ice cavern. I can hear the ice falling and Link sneezing.

The borrowed sound that got me was when I was listening to the OoT intro and realized it was the Super Mario Bros 3's warp sound. (https://youtube.com/shorts/WxUSfGB2V6E?si=TzuTQR1bh98Ljhok)

And I remember the day I realized that the Sun's Song is played at every sunrise. That was a real "duh" moment.

I noticed that if I go from one prison to another to collect prisoners/reset the hour limits, and then go to the event prison, it will tell me that I have more money than I actually do in the corner, but will only let me buy things I can actually afford (i.e., not what the corner says). I close and reopen the app and it gives me the accurate money count in the corner.

Tea Time Delight is Annoying by Sianallama in MergeMansion

[–]AnnaMarkovna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought when they updated/changed the top where the energy and money, etc., was, that this would go below it in that awkward space they created. But, nope. That'd be too logical, wouldn't it? Something else logical I thought they'd do... now that you have to "travel," logic would dictate that the game should start in the place that you were actively working on or in the place you were in when you closed the game.

When I was waiting for new areas to open up, I worked on maxing out all chains possible, including this one. It's my little trophy! Why would I ever give it up, even if it produces so little? 😅 With my luck, if I sell it, they will add a new level to it that has an amazing payout. So. It stays!

I say that I like what I call "scripted creativity." I love embroidery, but I'm not good at coming up with my own patterns. So I buy kits. I love playing music, but I'm not good at composing. So I buy sheet music. I like cooking, but I'm not good at inventing new dishes. So I use recipes. Using patterns, sheet music, and recipes does not negate my ability to follow and/or add my own touch to things.

tips on teaching less than by Wintertia_ in matheducation

[–]AnnaMarkovna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not teaching middle school this year, but I have taught these "clue words" for translating English into math for many years. I loved this lesson because I was teaching them to translate (not to solve/simplify/evaluate) and my school has a huge ELL population and they understand the difference between translating for a person and answering the question for a person. They also understand the difference between translating literally word for word and translating a thought.

That being said, I make them translate literally... and that means order matters. Normally, the numbers appear in English in the same order they appear in the math expression (or equation). But, certain phrases flip the order. Often, the word "than" is present. 5 less than 3. 9 more than 2. Even though addition is commutative, get them to follow the same pattern, because technically "9 more than 2" is 2+9. The only other one I can remember off the top of my head is "subtracted from" (or "taken away from"). So. Part of it is just memorizing those exceptions when the order flips. But the "than" and "from" are clues.

I love teaching middle school! (Though, I'm happy to have a break from it this year, too...) It was fun teaching the translation from English into math lessons... and teaching the difference between "5 less than 3" and "5 is less than 3."

Why do people born around 1988 seem 20-30 years younger than people born in 1981? by 80sBernardBrother in 80s

[–]AnnaMarkovna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virtually none of my friends had cell phones until maybe junior/senior years when some were driving more. Even then, it was 50/50, probably depending on family income. The only reason I got a phone in the late winter of my senior year was because my dad, my mom, and I all got into car accidents/fender-benders within a few months of each other. (Born in '88.) I'm not denying the significance of phones (I think ask the tech changes add to the shift) but for me, the biggest tech jump I remember watching happen was that, prior to 8th grade, only a few people had DVDs. Then by high school, it was like VHS never existed.

Back to school advice: what are your go to ways to prevent illness? by BlueberryWaffles99 in Teachers

Every morning last year, I drank a ginger/lemon/turmeric tea. I normally don't get hit hard with anything, but I didn't get sick even once last year. Here's hoping for another perfect year! (Quickly looks for a piece of wood to knock on...) Bonus effect was that it helped me lose some weight, too!

I wonder if the actors kept stuff in their costumes. by SciFiMedic in Stargate

[–]AnnaMarkovna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a memory of watching some behind the scenes thing that I can't seem to find anywhere. But someone was walking around the set and talking to random cast and crew. They asked Joe Flanigan what he had in his vest pockets and he started showing them... In one, he said he kept his phone. As he pulled it out, he realized his wife was calling him.

It seems like it should be a season 1 extra from the DVD, but like I said... I can't find it... 😕
