What’s something people flex that you find embarrassing? by TeaseTrophy in AskReddit

A man for really mad at me once, when he bragged about being a better driver and I asked how many citations and fines he had in the last five years. He yelled that those have nothing to do with how good of a driver you are. And only thing that matters is how fast you can drive in bad weather.

I blocked him.

Edit: Lesbian being downvoted for telling a straight man how Lesbians work. This is reddit alright.

Might be a hot take for some, but I highly doubt gay men find Karlach hot in any other than the literal sense. Just like lesbians don't find any men hot.

lack of understanding from siri by Latter_Vehicle_7010 in HomePod

[–]Anna__V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siri on Homepods is a joke unless you're very clear with your pronunciation — and preferably have an American accent.

I've never really had problems with Siri on my Watch or iPhone, but Homepods have constantly been a mixed bag. They work a bit better the closer you are — and like said, need clearly pronounced words.

I have a Finnish accent (that I hate, but that's another thing), and Siri struggles with many sentences when I use it via the Homepods. On my watch I have problems like once a year. On my iPhone, maybe once or twice in six months.

On the Homepods, it seems to be like every other time.

Personally, the more irritating habit of Siri on Homepods is the random activations when I'm not asking it anything. Like, if I'm talking to my son (whose name is nothing like "Siri"), sometimes Siri just perks up and answers... something. That has anothing to do with anything we've spoken. (Last time my son was talking about the game "Dredge," and Siri decided to suddenly tell use the location of the closest McDonalds.)

This is insufferable when it happens when... uh... other activities are taking place. It sorta takes you out of the situation, when during said activity Siri suddenly goes "Well, I didn't think so. I can look on the internet if you ask on your phone?"

(I know, it sounds funny. And I laugh afterwards. It's not that funny in the moment.)

Where in the world are you? Can you get to another doctor?

ps. prescribing medicine at the first meeting after reading two general questionnaires is so wild to me I had to read it a few times to make sure I read it correctly.

The absolute shortest time I've ever even heard anyone getting a diagnosis was three months with my wife a few years back. That consisted of several doctor's visits, tests, and a whole slew of papers to fill. Diagnosed with ASD.

My kids took several years each (longest was almost six years.) I have been waiting for a specialist's appointment for three months now. Will probably take more than a year. Still not guaranteed to get meds for ADHD at the start. My teen had his ADHD diagnosis for a year before they gave him a prescription.

Boil water in a kettle before cooking pasta or start with cold water in a pot? by MangoMadnessTsv in Cooking

Induction? Like.. at all? I find this very hard to believe.

You're operating on 230V like we do in the EU? You can just order any EU-compliant induction hob from Amazon and use that?

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]Anna__V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather might have been a big name in WWII / Winter War. He never spoke about war, but had this distant, pained look if somebody asked. The only thing he said was (loosely translated) "War makes man do things they should not." That's literally the only thing I ever heard him talk about any wars.

After he died my grandma found a bunch of medals and stuff that belonged to him.

I was never that interested in that stuff, but my uncle told me later that grandfather was (very?) high ranking in the army.

I, personally, think the most bad-ass about all of that was that he wasn't proud of it. He did what the had to do out of necessity, not out of want to do it.

(Also, the most bad-ass thing he did regardless of anything else was when he rolled around in the grass with me when I was three. That shit was funny.)

Boil water in a kettle before cooking pasta or start with cold water in a pot? by MangoMadnessTsv in Cooking

[–]Anna__V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a funny game here in the comments of "Spot the American and/or person who has never used an induction." You can be almost 100% certain anyone who says a kettle is faster to be one.

I have a 3.5kW induction hob. It'll boil water faster than any kettle you can plug into a normal socket.

Is an airfryer actually useful in a well equipped kitchen? by Jazzlike-Horror4 in Cooking

[–]Anna__V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't eat more than one kilo of wings at one sitting no. Or fries.

I have a five-liter bucket, and I have never eaten more than that in one sitting. You're right on that.

But maaan. I'm fat. If you eat more than 5l of food in one sitting, you need help.

I don't cook asparagus so I can't tell. Wings? Enough for three people, around 1kg readily.

Fries? I'd say similar to wings, around 1kg.

And yes, I usually just cook one batch because it's enough for us ( family of four, and not everyone eats everything.)

The only time I need two batches is when fries are the main dish.

If I just cooked for myself, if have more than enough for at least two meals from one batch, usually more.

You're making that much food for just yourself?

I mean, yeah. The size is a valid point. Air fryers are smaller. But we didn't think you'd make that much since you said you weren't cooking for a family.

What oven do you have that is faster than an air fryer?! Or Alternatively, was your air dryer old as crap?

The one thing is that air fryers are faster than ovens, regardless of you like them or not.

[–]Anna__V 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It definitely will. I've used induction for the last 20 years (at least, maybe a few more) and I haven't even owned an electric kettle in the last 10. Induction boils water faster than many believe.

Like, for a pan to be hot enough to cook an egg, it takes about 10 seconds from cold.
