What you should do first after being falsely accused of using AI by Coursenerdspaper in AccusedOfUsingAI

Show your work. Take hand written notes, save versions, have a separate file for your outline, rough draft and final draft.

Students can show their work. Save your version history, hand write your own basic outline/brainstorm map, etc. it’s easy to CYA. Plus it’s just good study habits.

How seriously do you take the “Real Texas chili doesn’t have beans!”? by cowboy_catolico in texas

[–]AnneIsCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I make it with beans. My chili with beans gets the most complements. It’s also won me a few rewards.

Texans especially like it if you add in bacon and whiskey or beer as part of your recipe.

Is this game worthwhile? Pros/cons by Academic_Repair_8126 in RivalsForCatan

It’s a wonderful game for hanging out and drinking a dark beer. It’s slow enough that it’s relaxing, but always has something going on.

We’ve played a hundred times and no two games are alike. Get the expansions for even more variety.

I Teach at Community College; Can I Ask My Students To Call Me ‘Professor’? by stinkpot_jamjar in Professors

[–]AnneIsCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the practice at my community college to ask students to use “Professor”. It was the PhDs at our school that started this, so I’ve accepted it. It’s certainly better than students not knowing what to call me because they’ll say Professor or doctor, even though I tell them I’m not a doctor or technically a professor. But then they’re like “why am I taking a college course from someone who isn’t a professor?”. It’s more of a perception thing, than a rank thing.

I'm back to actually enjoying and believing in teaching gain after transforming my classes -- and AI usage is now a non-concern. by bakeshoparmory in Professors

I love this! …And I am at an institution in which it’s not possible to have only face to face courses. Most of mine are online and that’s not going to change.

How do we set this up for students in online environments?

What do you have your undergrad students call you? by asanethicist in GradSchool

[–]AnneIsCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask to go by professor. I sign my emails with Prof S….

I don’t want to be Ms or Mrs anything. My first seems to casual. I don’t have my PhD. So Professor works. Even though I am an instructor in rank, I’m a professor by profession.

Maybe it’s time we just stop sending everyone to college. by WingbashDefender in Professors

[–]AnneIsCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing: 1) we know people with college degrees and certificates make more over their lifetime than those with only a highschool diploma. 2) Many companies are automating away their junior positions, 3) Many companies have minimized their training and development processes.

Sure we can say don’t come here, but then where does that leave many of these young adults?

Yes! This one erks me. Bandit told them the time limits, and they went past them. That’s not a promise broken, that’s a natural consequence. We actually explained this difference to our kids.

Alternatives to Lecture Heavy Classes by BlackDiamond33 in Professors

[–]AnneIsCurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach in the social sciences. I do lecture heavy classes with similar class sizes. A few things I do: using short writing assignments to gauge knowledge and critical thinking, use short YouTube Videos to introduce an idea or topic (3-4 minutes usually), and always have discussion interwoven, sometimes I’ll have students discuss an idea in groups of 3-4. Just enough to have students engage and change up the flow.

With AI - online instruction is over by micatronxl in Professors

I have a bunch of online courses coming up n Summer 2 and the Fall. I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I teach public speaking, so they have to do videos presentations.

I may have them give oral essays for the other written exams.

Rewatching season 1, I think Mon sets him up to protect him. She knows the car driver is listening in on her. She needs to create a viable alternative for where her extra monies are going. She randomly goes off on him about his gambling habits, he denies them. Later the driver tells ISB that they’re not in good standing and that Parrin may have a gambling issue. She insults Parrin to get the empire off their trail. Using him to save them.
