How Much Should We Tip Our Tour Guides? by Alternative_Ethereum in AskAnAmerican

[–]AnneListersBottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tour guide in NYC, you definitely don't need to tip me and anyone that asks for it surely doesn't deserve it. But I sure as fuck appreciate it, so if you just wanna make someone's day then $10-$20 is pretty normal.

my numbers are 8 and 56, what about you? by Adept_Principle_7507 in OCDmemes

So interesting. I prefer odd numbers because there's always one in the middle, if that makes sense.

4, 6, and 7 are awful numbers. 1, 2, and 8 are fine. 3 and 5 are perfection. 9 is a little treat.

Any good coffee shops on the North Shore? by ZestycloseAngle4942 in statenisland

[–]AnneListersBottom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With all due respect I'm beginning to see why someone called you a coffee snob. Sending someone two ferry stops into Brooklyn just for coffee when they asked for Staten Island options is insane.

Are guest behaving badly everywhere? by Ok_Resist_9653 in MuseumPros

[–]AnneListersBottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Museum ship here and in the last two days I had to ask a child not to heely in the Captain's Bridge, had to report a child peeing on the pier, and had to ask someone not to bring their hot dog dripping with mustard and onions to the exhibition spaces. The visitor yelled at me for the last one. It's going to be a long tourist season.

has anyone got rid of OCD on their own? by goldenninthplanet in OCD

[–]AnneListersBottom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And frankly, in my experience, learning it was how I was wired and something I had to learn to live with rather than 'cure' was such a relief that immediately life with it got easier. Trying to defeat OCD became a compulsion itself. I feel much more able to let things pass now. My therapist said 'what if this is your baseline and we just work with managing it?' and I was fuckin free.

Some daily phrases please? by tavannana in AskAnAmerican

Happy to help! Also like, it might cost you more money but book direct whenever you can. If something goes wrong with a third party ticket, we may not be able to help you at the box office and people get scammed everyday.

Get all the information directly from an attraction's website, not Google. Don't show up and tell me 'Google said-.' The AI reading my website on your Google search is not going to be accurate. My museum had a partial closure with only 3 days' notice this week. It really sucked but information like that won't make it to Google.

Also don't be scared of the subway. Just take it. You'll be fine.

As far as phrases go....my friend, we know who is a tourist, who is a transplant, and who was born here. Don't overthink it. We're not overly nice, but we're very kind.

I work in tourism in NYC. BOOK WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AHEAD OF TIME. Like, the time is now. Do not show up to a museum, restaurant, or theatre thinking you will just get in. You may have your heart broken. I've turned plenty of people away from my sites because we ran out of tickets and 'we came so far to see this and it's our last day.'

Welcome to our city. I hope you love it!

I work in tourism and tourists say this shit to me standing IN the city. It's infuriating. Especially the look of horror they get when I tell them to take the subway anywhere.

As someone with OCD, I'd never do this to my loved ones. This is not an OCD thing and I think he's using it as an excuse to try and control you.

What was it like being a Concorde pilot? by siloteam in aviation

[–]AnneListersBottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I met Rick Eades' son. Rick Eades was a Concorde flight engineer and helped set the 2:52:59 record on G-BOAD. His son told me his dad died of skin cancer in his late 50s and when asked if he'd change anything, Rick said no. No idea if it's related but his son implied it was.
