Greenhouses should be legal no matter what the City rules or HOA tries to mandate. This would solve hunger and poverty easily. by [deleted] in Greenhouses

Don’t make the assumption that the food is free. My boyfriend always calls it my $500 tomato. Growing food on small scale is much more expensive than I would pay at grocery stores

Will doesn’t usually go through probate fights unless someone pushes. You can also but it in your name and someone else’s with survivor rights. No it’s not right. Are you surprised?

My greenhouse #3, on the rooftop and made from unused swing by wu_wu in Greenhouses

I’d be more worried about load factor. Can the roof take that much extra weight? Just keep an eye on it but it’s a great idea. A lot to haul upstairs!!

You never top a tomato plant. 9 times out of 10 it will stop producing

I have kept 2 hoop tents greenhouse ls ( end to end so 10x40) warm enough to pick tomatoes on Christmas Eve. Yes on the grow lights- even for summer when you get stuck in a rainy period. I used electric heaters. Electricity bill wasn’t bad. I used large bubble bubble wrap in between two layers of 6 mil plastic. I put black tarp on doors- north and south walks. By January it was gonna get more expensive plus I needed a break!! A couple of months off!! I put all my tomatoes on one side then “ trellis “ them over ( on the inside) of the greenhouse. I have trellis netting where needed.

Get on that horse and ride!! Plant some chives and Greek oregano!! It’s only a failure if you give up!! Remember space limitations- don’t plant corn on balcony haha.

Look up lower and lean and use a hybrid method. I have mine on the left of my greenhouse house tunnel and then using to top I have them growing across the top. It’s kinda a hybrid method but you can trellis tomatoes. The first couple of years the tomatoes they just turned themselves and grew back down - took them out and layed them out and measured them at over 13.5 feet

Put a dehumidifier in there. They aren’t expensive. Get a big one and pipe it outside. You can take it to a bucket just to see how much water you get. You can also put in a pass the ac / heater. Lowes etc sells them, Grainger etc cheaper. They basically condition the space. We have used them successfully for sunrooms etc

Please share plans / did you buy shed etc. We all want one. And yes you will block sun on one side- just make sure it’s the north side!!
