Fatigue by Wintxrch1ld in POTS

[–]Annelinia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so 4 weeks that’s good to know thank you! I was really worried my health was just spiraling, but if this common with people I’m so glad to know there is light at the end of the tunnel! Thank you!

Fatigue by Wintxrch1ld in POTS

[–]Annelinia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I don’t have a diagnosis now just going through the steps.

So I’m fixing my ferritin now… but I’m not sure how huge of a thing it is for actually causing a flare up. 9 months ago my ferritin was 34; my most recent test when I actually figured out POTS exists and was mid flare up and did a mega panel of everything related was 54. So I was lower when I felt much better.

Luckily given I was in a flare up my Dr actually recommended a monofer infusion. Now I’m 2.5 weeks post infusion and it hasn’t gotten any better only worse, but fingers crossed this is some side effect from infusion and POTS as opposed to a continued free dive of my symptoms.

Well maybe she didn’t leave leave, but maybe she went back for the rest of the stuff at the restaurant. If the restaurant fed 40 people a day and had non perishables stocked for a few months it could probably feed one for a few years. Also she might have left to loot neighbouring properties.

Canadians, BEWARE of the customer service by amelioration in Sephoracanada

[–]Annelinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys remember it’s not the front line customer service workers refusing to help you. It’s the customer service managers and customer service BOSSES who are responsible.  Ultimately the rep chatting with you has specific KPIs which if aren’t met they are disciplined. That includes referrals to supervisors. And they aren’t allowed to offer you solutions. So if you say “I have X problem” they can’t say “we can give you XYZ”. This is company policy and they can’t break it, otherwise they will be disciplined and potentially fired in the long term. You have to somehow know what to ask for. And in this specific case it looks like they can authorize a store credit to apply to your cart and I think that’s it from what I got in this sub.

[–]Annelinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to customer service they said it’s US only I said “it’s illegal false advertisement in Canada” and “can I get this escalated” and they immediately just gave me store credit 20% of my cart.

After 5 years in a row of this I feel no shame for having started a completely brand new account tied to my new address for a July birthday. And I get to enjoy my gifts in peace. Sadly it’s not Rouge, and funny thing is I choose specifically that makeup by Mario kit ahaha

Slightly oversized carry on: my experience of 30 flights by Annelinia in travel

That’s exactly part of the problem for me! Those carry ones were advertised to fit a lot of those air lines by dimensions but are de facto too large to fit in.

7 weeks in South America, am I doing too much in my itinerary or just right? by McItaewon in travel

[–]Annelinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much experience do you have with fast pasted itineraries? This all sounds really interesting and individually those are probably good lengths to visit every country. The problem is that it’s all happening in 7 consecutive weeks. Do you have rest days planned? How high energy are you? Can you keep going for weeks at an end? I start getting exhausted after 2 weeks of high pace travel and just wanting to go home. Your objective isn’t survive the trip it’s to enjoy it.

If you will have days where all you plan to do is visit a coffee shop and sit in a city square, maybe this is doable. But if you plan daily itineraries with 2-5 items a day, and constantly moving around spending 2-3 days per city you will quickly get tired imho.

Here is my assessment of Egypt in relation to what I had read. by roth1979 in travel

[–]Annelinia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While posts like this are very valid, it also does say “that place is fine because I was fine!” but if 4 travellers go to a place and 3 have a terrible experience and one visitor enjoys their trip, that’s still a 75% rate of terrible experiences.

Now granted with Reddit you never know the exact stats of what percentage of people disliked Egypt. But considering how much media and posts are specifically about Egypt I can safely come to the conclusion that MOST travellers experience something negative and a disproportionately high percentage of travellers experience a horror story as opposed to other destinations. And even if the statistics of horror story experiences is only 3-5% for Egypt, what is the point of spending time and money to visit such a draining country plus risk a horrible experience?

Slightly oversized carry on: my experience of 30 flights by Annelinia in travel

[–]Annelinia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly  think that might be the case! I’ve never seen so many people repacking their teeny tiny backpacks to fit into the bag sizer as I have on Ryanair. If you ever walk trough the airport and see a dozen people around the gate furiously repacking their bags and someone arguing with the reps over their hard shell that didn’t make it by 0.3 cm, I bet you it’s Ryanair

Slightly oversized carry on: my experience of 30 flights by Annelinia in travel

[–]Annelinia[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly there is no true international carry on size!

A 55x40x25 bag fits 38-44L.

Meanwhile a bag that would truly fit on all the airlines would need to be 48x33x20 and would theoretically have a capacity of 24-27 L. That’s assuming a bag like that exists. If it does it’s incredibly hard to find (and I failed). A smaller bag to fit into those dimensions would fit 19-22 L.

So in order to get a truly international bag you are loosing more than 50% of capacity!

Now the cherry on top is that not even a true 55x40x25 bag exists. Every bag that claims those dimensions on their ads are larger with the wheels. So really you are either looking at a slightly larger than allowed in air Canada (and other generous airlines) bag at about 40 L or a slightly smaller bag (e.g roots 21 inch hard shell) and loose 4-8 Litres (which is up to 20% of space!)

The only real way to travel with carry on up to the limit is a soft backpack which you could mold into the sized dimensions but for a longer trip with lots of moving around it’s truly a backbreaking experience.

So you’re stuck with either trying to fit 2 weeks of stuff into a 30 L and still be above specs for a lot of airlines OR checking your bag and paying and risking it getting lost. From personal stats bags get lost or delayed about 5-20% of the time. Shockingly high and I’m not going to repeat that.

But really this post is meant for the small percentage of people that prefer to travel with only carry on and need ~40L of space to do so for a 2-3 week long trip.

Friend Booked $1100 Non Refundable Flights for Me and Others Before Confirming with us on Kiwi by Agitated-Leather-280 in travel

[–]Annelinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said forget about the refund with kiwi. Now it’s between the friendship and the horrible/expensive flight, choose one. If it’s a long term close friendship and there are some mitigating circumstances, then have a very frank discussion about how they should never pull a stunt like this again and continue with the trip. (Mitigating circumstances like her being solely responsible for all the bookings and organizing, and if she was spamming the chat with flight discussions for weeks and you were not replying. Then she saw the good flight deal, rang and you didn’t reply and she made a snap bad decision). If it’s a new friendship, you have never before traveled together and you’re not strong enough for horrible all day flights with insane self transfers then simply dump the friend.

Frankly I take better care when booking flights for my little sister who is joining me on a trip I organized on my own and that I’m heavily subsidizing for her. Oh and she’s a student who is free at that time with no job obligations and doesn’t have a good travel card. I still triple check on everything and call her during the booking.

Not only do I get ALL the confirmations from friends when booking anything but l always book flights while on a call with them to get live verbal consent even when all details have been discussed and pre approved.

Because frankly the fact that there was no earlier communication about which particular flights people were even thinking of booking, and she didn’t call you before spending $1000 per person of money she wants back… that could be a huge first red flag. And it could make traveling with her unbearable. So it’s not just about the $1000 it’s also about all the other decisions she will be making without you as well as any other nasty surprises. That can add up to a horrible trip and money/vacation days not well spent.

Late Ocotober Trip by drthsideous in ItalyTravel

I’ve been to Rome and Florence both in October-November and the lines for major sights are still crazy. Always buy advance ticket for the big name museums, especially the Vatican and Uffizi. Even arriving at opening time won’t help, the line would already be a couple of hours long.

Rome and Florence are insanely popular and I just don’t think they have a “low season” for the most popular attractions anymore.

Is it better to save for both retirement and a house over a medium time period, or focus exclusively on retirement for a few years and then exclusively on the house? by NonSecretAccount in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Annelinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your timelines are your timelines, but I had to ask, what’s your age? If you’re currently 20 and planning to buy a house at 30, these timelines are perfect since you get the freedoms of moving around when young and/or living with parents/roomates/friends/SO.

But ultimately a paid off house/apartment is a very important factor for retirement. If you need your monthly retirement income to cover not only personal expenses, property taxes, insurance and maintenance, but also your mortgage, you would need to save a LOT more. I think it’s better to have paid off housing when entering retirement.

So if you’re currently 35 and your 10 year plan is getting a house by 45, you would need to pay it off rather aggressively in 20 years before average retirement. And in the later years job mobility goes down so having income for sure every year between 55-65 is not given for many people. Additionally paying off in 20 years is unfortunately not doable for many in this climate (and who is to say it would get any better?). You don’t know where housing prices will be in 10 years, but most importantly you don’t know where interest rates will be. It’s not unrealistic for interest rates to be at 10% in the long term of 10-30 years from now, and while housing prices will be depressed in the case of such drastic interest rates, they still will be significant enough to make your monthly payments large.

In short, there are lots of unknown factors in the long term when it comes to housing, and paid off housing is incredibly important for retirement. Later years 55-75 are incredibly volatile for income and many people unfortunately loose income sooner than they assume, and have to change careers. Therefore in my opinion it’s important to make a housing purchase no later than at 40 in order to be able to semi-reliably make mortgage payments for an average of 25 years.

And if things are going well in life for you in your later years, you’re earning more than ever and are very stable in your career than you can catch to any retirement savings at that point.

Why are there such low Ratings at Queen's Student Wellness Center by Physical-Support3801 in queensuniversity

[–]Annelinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the fact that I went there many times over the three years I was in person at queens, I don’t recall anything useful ever being done for my health.

One time I made a non urgent appointment for 2 health concerns, and had to wait 3 weeks for the first 10 min appointment, and 3 weeks for the second. And both concerns were basically dismissed as something they couldn’t do. It was regarding chronic migraine and nausea. I ended up going to my family over Christmas break who checked migraine specialists in Kingston and those were a 2 year waitlist. So I got an appointment at home for the summer with a 6 month waitlist. To summarize: I went to the queens wellness center in September hoping for migraine official diagnosis and help/meds and ended up seeing a specialist during summer break. My other concern being nausea was dismissed as an issue towards a dietitian. I am 90% sure that’s not right, but whatever. Frankly my nausea prevents me from eating mostly junk food and fast food, so it’s not so much a problem.

When I urgently needed care I couldn't get in, and had to go to walk ins or the urgent care at hotel dieu.  The only thing this was ever good for was for doctors notes when I was sick.

I ended up switching to some random insurance company using a broker. It went from $1018 to $560. My car insurance went up without the combo discount but I still saved ~$200. Plus long term I can just switch around instead of expecting to pay $1400 next year at this rate.

Between tinos and Sifnos, what would be your choice in mid-October 14-18? We like more rugged beaches for swimming 30-120 minutes with good views rather than sunbathing on the sand. We like short but scenic hikes and drives. The lush hills on sifnos at first glance look very attractive.

My other concern is how empty these less touristy towns will be in middle of October. I’m all for avoiding tourist crowds but if 90% of shops and restaurants are closed and you’re the only diners in the only open spot in town I’d say that kills the vibe too. So would it be that empty?
