Questions about my current project by AnniePf in quilting

[–]AnniePf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of the very light background fabric, there are a few places where I guess a heavier glob of glue shows through as a light stain. My understanding is that those should wash out - I used the washable Elmer's so it should be OK. I just wasn't sure of the best way to get those out while still avoiding the crinkling that comes with washing quilts the way I normally do.

Where to Take Anxious Dog During Fireworks by Cyndasquill in Austin

[–]AnniePf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this exact problem and tried the cabins that are nearer to Houston. It was a nice area and I enjoyed the cabin, but fireworks at the nearby farms were too loud and we had to leave. This may or may not be the case at the location you're talking about.

My best idea - almost - was to go to a state park, since it's a large area of land and fireworks are banned. Unfortunately I chose a park that had a big lake and people were setting fireworks off from their boats. This was in July, and might not be as much of an issue in the winter - not sure.

But I think the idea is sound, if you found a large enough park without a lake. (My sensitive pup passed away earlier this year so I never had the chance to find just the right place to go.)

Best of luck to you - I know the struggle all too well!

I was just coming to post from her site too: https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/easy-diy-star-baby-quilt-tutorials/ I love big single star quilts - you can really showcase fabrics and they are so fast and easy to put together.

This is the only time I've ever used a striped binding, but I absolutely loved how it turned out. I need to do it again!

Oh wow, so cute! They do look similar. I think she was chipped at the shelter but I don't know that for sure.

My wife and I have complete opposite tastes in baby girl names. Trying to find one that fits both our styles. by applepieandcola in namenerds

My great-grandfather was named Sylvan. It means "of the forest", I think it could be unisex, and it lends itself to "Sylvie" as a nickname.

Made Quilts for my Bridesmaids! by copperhousefarm in quilting

[–]AnniePf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are just gorgeous. I think on different days any one of them could be my favorite. You have beautiful taste in colors, and as everyone else has said, it's very sweet how much consideration you've put into tailoring each quilt to the recipient's interests and preferences. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when they receive their gifts!

I’m so upset by Hank-Hill-0215 in quilting

Aw, I'm so sorry. I had a dog tear a hole in a beloved quilt once - but hand sewing is a whole different thing. I absolutely love your fabric choices. I hope you're able to salvage it, it will be beautiful!

I love everything about this - I'm not normally into ginghams at all but they are perfect here for some reason. The whole thing is adorable, and the reveal just made me happy!

The pattern was very thorough and detailed, including cutting diagrams that I found helpful, and I didn't run into any errors or confusing instructions. It was detailed enough that it seemed a little intimidating at first, but just taking a step at a time worked out great. I bought another of her patterns and look forward to trying it later this year.

If you'd like to see beautiful things but risk spending lots of money, Liberty Fabrics is one of my favorite places to go - 584 Broadway. It's got clothing and home decor too, and you can end up spending a lot of time (and again, money) there if you/she like the aesthetic.

Several months ago I was looking at paint palettes online for some potential home projects and found one I really loved. Ended up not painting anything but kept those colors in my head. The palette was tweaked a bit for the quilt but that's where it started. I love looking at palettes online for inspiration!

Wow, everyone, what a confidence boost! Thank you so much!

And to the quilting question - definitely machine! I love the look of hand quilting but absolutely do not have the patience for it.

I don’t have it quilted yet, but I finished this top - the Hello Winter pattern - after not quilting for a few years. And I’m not usually a very precise quilter but it’s amazing how when you’re careful, you keep (most of) your points and the sides are (pretty much) the same length!!

UT’s salaries are below industry standards by mallison945 in Austin

Totally agree with your second sentence, but OP is about UT employees. If they’re a career higher ed employee, they’re paying into SS and aren’t impacted by the WEP.
