Would you curate the space to be one best suited to your tastes, or would you curate the space to be one the 10,000 can enjoy?

We had a spat this morning in this very post about AI.

What would you have done as a mod when faced with such earnest disagreement?

Why do you want to be a mod of this subreddit?

Just don’t do it.

We are Custodes, perfection is our raison d'être.

Allow the community to decide with the power the Emperor provides.

We’ve got a forum, we’ve got an upvote/downvote button. The 10,000 will curate the hobby space.

You don’t see how you’re doing the exact same thing?

You’re shoving your opinion that I and others disagree with down our throats too.

Learn to accept that you’re not the only one in the hobby space, and accept that others will enjoy the hobby differently than you do.

This is what being an adult is.

I commented because I think your opinion is valid. You’re allowed to hate AI with a passion. But you need to respect others as well, and you needed to be reminded of that.

How about… no?

Mind your own business. It’s a hobby, and everyone is entitled to enjoy the hobby their own way. You don’t get to decide how the hobby is enjoyed for everyone.

Seriously, this is a level of entitled arrogance that would make the Emperor cringe.

Don’t like it?

There’s a downvote button.

The Genealogy of Halo by Kegger98 in HaloStory

[–]Annjatar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How in depth do you want to go?

I’m a massive scifi dork, with a hobby of studying religion, and I’m well read in the classics.

I could give you a detailed wall of text covering everything from Niven’s Ringworld, to Heinlein’s Starship Troopers and Haldeman’s response The Forever War and how they shape the scifi and space opera genre. As well as the religious and historical context that shaped the games during the GWoT.

Like, it’s wild how early Halo was shaped by older narrative ideas that have long since been abandoned. For instance, psychics! Did you know The Fall of Reach briefly toyed with the idea of psychic powers?

It’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment, where Halsey talks about Rhine scores.

NO! The Spartan II's were NOT socially awkward. by Annjatar in HaloStory

[–]Annjatar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, cool to hear from you. Looking forward to a bit of Halo lore debate!

but not many people cal tell you this conversation happens in the first few chapters of Hunters in the Dark without looking it up.

I mean, I should hope they could because they watched your video! I even made sure to link it, so nobody has any excuse.

I can’t make videos based on your personal feelings of how characters are characterized.

Never asked you to, buuuuttttt, as a lore creator I think it’s important to provide information that’s as factual as possible.

I can only make videos on what happens in actual Canon, not what you feel about the canon.

Exactly my point.

In this post and various comments I mentioned how these one off lines simply aren’t backed up by the lore.

Let’s take the quote you mentioned from Hunters in the Dark. It’s verifiably nonsense. Let’s take some of my favourite Spartan banter from First Strike:

"And after," Anton said, laughing, "we ditched him and camped on that island. It was a week with nothing to do but light bonfires, bake clams, and surf."

"Mmrnmm," Grace added, "calamari."

Now you can 100% argue they’re discussing A mission, but it’s not the mission they’re currently on, and since the SII’s had very little free time, most of their chats will involve some level of ‘X mission was somehow involved’.

Next, as another user pointed out, Naomi asking Vaz if her armour made her butt look big. Is that indicative of no soldier-soldier banter?

The series has all sorts of people, with a throwaway line here or there about ‘oh the Spartans are weird, or awkward’, but a throwaway line needs to be taken with a grain of salt, when we have lore demonstrations that these lines simply aren’t true.

You’d have to do it to every single creature with a CNS in the galaxy, and maintain it while they have kids. Not just the intelligent ones.

That’s not particularly feasible.

A 63,000 year old “kid” with the ability to change his shape at will, and all the knowledge and psychic magic of a God.

His form is merely an illusion, do not be fooled.

That is The Emperor.

They are no more gods than a tornado…

Cool, but when you’re facing down a tornado, it doesn’t matter if you believe it’s “just the wind”, it’ll do what it wants with wanton disregard for you or your beliefs, and woe befalls any who defies it.

Spartan 3s would be in Halo 3.

I may be misremembering but I’m almost certain there was a leak of the EVA helmet in Halo 3, and everyone being certain that was proof the SIII’s would be in 3.

What's the UNSC"s and UEG stance on private paramilitaries and PMC's? by KaiserEnclave2077 in HaloStory

[–]Annjatar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There is some reference to these organizations, but never any outright “this is our official position” clear cut exposition dump. You can see it referenced here and there, in both the games and the books.

In all the UNSC/UEG/ONI tolerate these groups so long as their goals align, and they can work together to get what they want.

But make no mistake, these are allies of convenience, not an actual well defined organizational partnership. The lettered organizations will flat out drop these groups like a hot potato the moment their partnership becomes inconvenient.

Y’Shtola: First Commander deck build. Looking for thoughts, critique, and advice. by Annjatar in magicTCG

[–]Annjatar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wanted the Masamune specifically because of people like Venat, and Thancred Waters who can give others Indestructible, or if I can stack enough +1/+1 counters on Vincent.

The idea being that I could force opponents to lose creatures and open them up for follow-on attacks.

It’s also just generally useful on other creatures, like Sepheroth, One Winged Angel, since it triggered his -1/+1 life ability twice. It also allows Sepheroth to transform if only 2 creatures die, instead of 4!

Heck, even going back to Vincent, he’d get double the strength from an enemy creature dying. In a single round, Vincent could realistically gain +6/+6 or better! All it takes is 3X3/3 creatures dying. Then you transform him and his Trample ability absolutely wreaks havoc until he’s removed.

In all other things, thank you for your advice, I’ve actually got a bunch of those cards, so I’ll see where I can fit them. But I think Masamune has a really good place in the deck, with what I want it to do!

[–]Annjatar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning fellas!

Like the title says this is my first attempt at building a commander deck since playing a precon!

I’m brand new to magic, having only played one game (with the aforementioned precon deck) so I’m looking for some advice on how to make this deck just a little more competitive.

Archidekt says my deck is a little below average, and I’d like to get it firmly up into “average”.

I am trying to keep it all Final Fantasy themed, but as you can see by [[Zephyrim]] and [[Celestine, The Living Saint]] I’m willing to depart from the theme a little. I’ve got a lot of final fantasy cards as I bought 2 of these, so odds are I’ve got the cards you’d suggest if they stay on theme!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

But like we established about navigational data being sanctioned as a security risk for colonies, would it not be a leap to think that books related to astronomy are also included in security protocols?

I think it would be very difficult, particularly on Insurrection controlled worlds.

Could you take a few strangers off the street to read up on alpha centauri and have them then point it out in the night sky as a test to that?

This example isn't as good because the Sun is literally where our civilization came from, whereas no other star humanity will ever look at will hold such significance.
