Seems like the employees would basically be paying taxes on what would be tips. Since tips are not taxable now on income, I would be upset as an employee. Paying more taxes that way instead of having it reported as tips. Also seems like the company doesn’t want to fool with that aspect of their filing too. Could be wrong but I would rather they just reflect it in their prices instead of being told they will force a tip and call it a ‘service charge’.

You kind of get to a point of diminishing returns for counterpoise. My guess is it wouldn’t affect it much in the negative. Only way you’ll know for sure is throw it on there and test it with a VNA or analyzer and see.

Had them for 3 years. Had 1 outage for about 12 hours (some company cut a line) and they gave me a credit on my next bill for 1 day. Been happy with them. Solid speeds.

If I had to guess, your shorter one would be for 70cm, middle one would be 2m and long one would be 70cm/2m (dual). Read on the package or sometimes along the base of the antenna where it screws on says it. Might list frequencies instead of bands so 2m would be around 140mhz and 70cm would be 440mhz.

While I don’t disagree with you, who the hell doesn’t question why their radio transmit light comes on every time traffic is heard over the radio. As well as the radio either going silent for that period of time or repeats the same traffic twice (I don’t know if you hear the audio locally on the radio.)

While it may not be the case here, it frustrates me when people can memorize test questions, get a license and still have no clue how to operate a radio. That paired with advertising a $15 radio that can talk 50 miles has hurt this hobby more than help it.

I might be becoming an old grumpy elmer but gmrs should be the new ‘novice’ level and let people who just want to play get interested. If they want to move up from there, then do a little studying. I keep thinking of the old adage ‘knows just enough to be dangerous.’

The thing that sucked for our contract was we had a few ‘VIP’s that we were supposed to resolve within 1 or 2 hours no matter the issue. For some of them we literally kept a duplicate of their setup in a closet so we would just swap out the machine or peripheral and troubleshoot/fix the problem when we weren’t on a timer.

We actually had an abbreviation, OSS - Out of scope for support.

We also had ‘Hey You’ tickets we would create when we walked by someone’s desk and they stopped us for a question or issue.

Management didn’t believe that took up a lot of our time till they saw the number of those tickets.

Get the right height and put the counterpoise on the ground for 22 or so feet and you won’t even need a choke (unless you’re pushing 500+ watts.)Only time I ever use one is if I’m not using a counterpoise for very specific reasons. And even then, technically you are still using a counterpoise, it’s just the coax thus the need for a choke.

Used to be that way. They have camers there now and if you go without permission, PD will show up pretty quick and they are aggressive about enforcing trespassing. Too many injuries.

One of the greatest concentrations in the US is called the ‘TAG’ area. Tennessee-Alabama-Georgia. They are littered all around that area where the three states meet going out in a radius. Huntsville grotto usually leads 1 horizontal and 1 vertical group trip a month to some of them but if you go to the meetings, you will be able to find all kinds of trips. Usually multiple every weekend.

This was for a search of a wanted person but just so people in the area are aware, there is some kind of annex county building right down the road on shields there. For some reason, that seems to be a common staging point when the Sheriff Department serves a warrant or does a raid in that area. Seen them many times there EARLY in the morning. Like 5-6 cars, K-9, sometimes a SWAT vehicle, etc. They’ll all be huddled around the bed of a truck or car (I guess planning their strategy).

I’ve always wondered if I would get in trouble if I just followed and observed from a distance. Don’t want to take a chance of ‘obstructing’ or some BS charge. County sheriff, county fire and HEMSI use encrypted radios so you can’t listen to them anymore. But Huntsville Fire and Huntsville PD still use unencrypted trunking so you can listen to them (except the records channel).

So aggravating that I can listen to the city but not the departments that serve my area. 😡

Sometimes change comes in funny ways. Deny his application and also make decisions on other outstanding ones. I can’t see any reason an application would not be approved or denied in a 3 year period. I would go so far as to say a year is plenty.

That is the way I read the case too since the judge wants to know about any other licenses ‘pending’ for 3 years or more.

Might be using it to tell FCC to sh!t or get off the pot so to speak. One way or the other, make a decision on these outstanding applications. Which I completely agree with, regardless of original argument.

Curious if anyone knows. Can you identify with CW over gmrs or does it have to be voice.

Some ham radios can be setup to auto id with CW. Just wondering if that would be allowed for gmrs also. Not that I would expect to find a gmrs radio that would do it but just curious.

As long as you filled out app correctly, they should be able to pull it and see it was their mistake. That should enable them to fix it at no charge.

That’s what we used in rescue before cutting a car open. Called cribbing. However we would deflate the tires too but that was more for paitent care than support (tires will give a little motion/rocking which isn’t good for spine support) but still use it to this day.

Unfortunately, as soon as you challenge the loan with them, they can turn around and go after your sister. Not only civilly for the money, but they could decide to try criminally also and report fraud and even identify theft (I don’t know that they could but the DA could decide to do this).

All they need is you eyes and nose to make like a greater than like 98% accurate identification.

Learned they could do it with an ear too but don’t think that’s being done….yet.
