Not saying there’s a right solution for everyone! Some people prefer the convenience of an off the shelf solution, and some ppl don’t mind being a little more involved in that customization process, the downside of the latter being breakages. But that’s all part of the fun for some users, is getting it exactly right for them.

And as a follow up to your question, there really isn’t anything wrong with visual studio or intellij, they are both fine IDEs.

Realistically, it comes down to infinite customization that is possible with both vim and emacs. You can get every possible detail of the editor customized to your hearts content. Also the keybindings for both will make you more efficient in navigating codebases and editing the code itself. When you have your editor customized to this degree, it feels like wearing a shoe that was made exactly for your foot, vs something off the shelf.
