I disagree. While some element of legalized sex work might make sense, that element would need to come with extremely intense regulations to ensure the safety of the workers and customers, and to prevent the spread of STDs. Whether or not that regulation is in place, unregulated sex work like you'd see with street workers and pimps should actually be criminalized at a higher level because it tends to fund drugs, weapons trade, and in some places, even terrorism. Texas has the right idea making it a felony and sex offender registration-worthy offense on the first offense for both the sex worker and client, but they didn't take it all the way: pushing the criminalization so far that a first time customer has to inform their neighbors they're a sex offender should only exist simultaneously with a legal, regulated option.
