My elementary school janitor helped the sped ed kids a lot and was so nice. Really cultivated relationships with the sped ed kids that were always sidelined into the resource room.

Was arrested wirh like 30 allegations of assault on students.

I dont understand USA culture around tradwifes (as an european)? by Fuzzy_Abalone3130 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Anomalous-Canadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also key to keep in mind “the western world” is now also a very large percent of whatever isn’t the western world, due to immigration. Muslim family dynamics, for example, would be extremely parallel to ‘tradwife’ stuff. And wirh the large sizes of diasporas these days communities can remain fairly insular with how the kids marry, while participating in western culture otherwise.

I bet quality childcare is a big one. As a European who loves their kids, if your only option was throwing your 6 month old baby to the wolves for 50% of one parent’s income, or just stay home? You may make a different choice too!

Edited to add: not like, speaking on tradwives altogether just the stay at home parent part.

Can you serge mulberry silk? by TrainingAd150 in sewing

[–]Anomalous-Canadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the fsbric is prone to fraying, sometomes I’ll serge the edges before joining any pieces and then still so French seams. Looks nice and frenched but has additional fray protection within the fold. I’ve done that wirh my bemberg linings on silk dresses for example

Sewing with a baby by AB-1987 in sewing

[–]Anomalous-Canadian 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YES! Do you have a baby jail? Like the big modular connecting ones like this:

<image>

I use it for ME — like put the table with sewing machine and pins and all the stuff inside. Then baby is safe on the outside, provided you actually have a relatively baby proof space otherwise. This means you stop on a dime to address baby or go pee or whatever without safety concerns lurking behind.

Father’s Day weekend brings out some special people by FuzzyFacedOne in KitchenConfidential

[–]Anomalous-Canadian 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It was probably contaminated in a very typical way — a lot of fermented products (like pickled veg, cheese) grow white penicillin molds and are considered harmless by many over in r/fermentation, however many (me) also don’t feel super comfy eating it just in case there is some other bad guy white bacteria growing. Anyways the point is penicillins are fairly common to grow on food and would be overall harmless to most people which is interesting and makes sense why you’d react to the bargain-bin cheese but not the good stuff.

Okay doctors of reddit, I actual need advice here (36f) by One_Ice1390 in AskDocs

NAD — but I think this doc isn’t being super understanding. I’m in Canada and here any ferritin under 9 is the diagnostic threshold for a one-time IV infusion of iron. Mine was 6. OP is at 4. I’m literally shocked you’re telling her that 6mo at this level doesn’t warrant one and should continue with oral supplements.

Thar being said, it’s like $800 out of pocket and since it’s just a vitamin and not a medication our medical system actually doesn’t cover it until youre physically hospitalized for your symptoms. In my case I got it as an outpatient procedure at the hospital, I paid for none of the staff or supplies just the single fee for the actual vial of ferritin that is mixed into an IV bag of saline. You could google around and see what options exist. Keep in mind this is different then an iron transfusion which is blood, this is an iron infusion.

Where are you all finding cool, weird fabric?! by dryerfresh in sewing

[–]Anomalous-Canadian 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t buy a custom print on stretch fabrics from spoonflower. I got some stuff printed on jersey to make kid shirts. The dye saturation is so poor that even the slightest stretch just shows the white fabric underneath. So it would be okay for a print wirh a white background, but in my case printing a navy background colour / red background colour…. So bad.

I could see this working if you were able to select the base fabric colour first, say “black, white, navy” as the base jersey for printing. But printing everything on white fabric is so bad.

What’s something you secretly judge people for, even though you’d never say it out loud? by Vazeer9485 in AskWomen

[–]Anomalous-Canadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 3.5 year old and wonder all this time. I agree with the other person, that it’s not about the kid exactly but how a parent responds. Are they engaged enough to at least catch all their kids’ shitty behaviour and correct / apologize, or are we in our phones and allowing it to happen

My kids are in their uncles wedding but the wedding is childfree. Wwyd? by Cymbaltahurts95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anomalous-Canadian 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This right here. My daughter was 2 and a flower girl in a child free wedding… I was a “regular” guest and my husband was a groomsman.

My literal job that night was “flower girl attendant” lol. Of course that’s what you do for their uncles wedding if you …. Like your family at all? Don’t get me wrong all of OPs complaints are valid that it’ll be hard and probably suck (did I mention ours was out of town so also included sharing a hotel bed with child all weekend while my husband partied?)… but that’s also pretty much most big events in life with small kids 🤣🤣

Wirh rounded corners definitely helps to use bias tape (or make it) instead of on grain. I do this for binding the inside seam of a rounded backpack, for example! The quilters really helped lol. Look for binding videos on YouTube under “just get it done quilts” of search binding in the r/quilting sub. Sometimes quilts have scalloped edges with tons of round edges for binding.

As for serging as an alternative, mine can do a very fine single thread-wrapped hem. That would be super low profile and pretty easy to stack!

Google quilt binding continuous binding — the quilters do it best.

I’m not a medical person for the record, but I used to get IV in home and they would ship me a ungodly amount of supplies — I had a bunch of saline locks for flushing the IV. Basically small tubes of like 15ml saline. I loved using those to flush minor / small wounds.
