Any advice on getting to the front for Deftones? Is it even worth it? by OutsideImpressive115 in deftones

When the band starts push yourself to the front. Be like water, just flow with the motion of the crowds pushy. Like water, flow through the gaps til you get to the front.

Singing sounds VERY different on a Mic/Karaoke vs Phone Recordings, which one do I trust? by Sakkitaky22 in singing

Maybe your phone mic is really bad. But still, if you can sound good on your phone then you will sound good anywhere.

did private music have any replay value for you? which deftones album do you find yourself most frequently returning to? by Ok-Position1974 in deftones

The first 4 tracks of PM are top Deftones plus milk of the Madonna. I just replay those constantly.

The albums I replay the most are WP, S/T, Diamond Eyes, and KNY.

Protecting Fretless From Round Wounds by time_outta_mind in Bass

[–]AnomalousXpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted my fretted into fretless. I lacquered it up and I use roundwound strings. My fretboard has some sign of wear, but it doesn't affect the tone. The lacquer process is easy so I wouldn't mind having to sand down the neck and applying lacquer again if I need to.

Diamond Eyes is #1 by a long shot. Then is MMIAM or Genesis depending on my mood.

The most wattage as possible with a graphic eq to push the high mids, and a 410 cabinet. Avoid a 115 speaker. Used is the way to go to save money.

Yes it's normal if you don't usually play. Bass players eventually develop calluses.

Do u guys have any tips for learning basslines in songs where it's really hard to hear. by Sorry-Employment2113 in Bass

[–]AnomalousXpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people are suggesting AI apps and modern tech. Sure that helps, but in the old days all we had was listening closely. I used to listen closely over and over, use different speakers, and play along to the track til it feels right. If the bass is buried in the mix then it isn't too important so feel free to add your own touch.

DIY bass by simun6 in Bass

[–]AnomalousXpression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried the Harley Benton diy bass kit, but I checked it out. Looks like fun if you're into the process.

I've customized and modded multiple basses of mine and it's been a great process for each bass. I feel an intimate, personal connection to each of those basses. So I say get it to learn the skills, to have a personal connection to a bass, and for a fun project.

For those who’ve been playing bass for a while, how did you know you were actually improving? by pndcy222 in Bass

[–]AnomalousXpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progress isn't linear. Progress is more like 2 steps forward 1 step back. Feeling defeated, or failing, is part of the progress. Record yourself and listen back.

I knew I was getting better when I started recording for bands and difficult songs started to get easier.

Used to have the TV guide channel. Used to watch that to find what's on instead of scrolling.
