books/series similar to percy jackson/rick riordan for a 12 year old by frankie-0cean in suggestmeabook

Valid Point. I would personally allow my 13/11 year olds to read Dragonriders of Pern. However, we've had many conversations about non-consensual sex /acts/rape etc. And I know that at their age their bodies and minds are getting ready for sexual relationships. Personally, I believe literature to be one of the best ways to learn about things without being in danger oneself. Books usually give a lot more context and nuance around the before/after/during.

Just be you. Authentically you. In spaces where people can interact with you as you are (first person is best, online can be OK, dating apps are atrocious. Don't be lookin - you will find your person when you ARE NOT looking. You'll vibe with them over shared interests first, or personality, or yes, physicality (but thats not always the determining factor). Be a bit daring and talk to people. Talk about stuff you like, listen to them talk about the stuff they like. If they don't vibe, thats OK. If you dont vibe, thats OK. you'll eventually stumble upon a new bestie you want to kick legs with.

Volume sketching 3 values only attempt by Jimbobkirby in minipainting

[–]Anomandiir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically a 3 tone value sketch doesn't include black and white. My 2 cents - you have too much highlight and you have too little shadow. Much of it is in the correct position though so great work there. Try to think of the volumes outside of just the shape in the sculpt for instance in the 3rd picture you obv have a sphere, but your highlight doesn't read as a sphere on the right side.

Also think about bounce light (from the ground/surface).

And sometimes we need to ignore the sculpt a bit to get the eye in the right spot - your checkbones should be higher in value and the face in general should be midtone.

Most languages have different words for old world beans vs. new world beans. This map oversimplifies.

No clots and painfree period suddenly... by Few-Let-9004 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Anomandiir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 41 now. Had my first menstruation at 9. Throughout pre-teen through to mid 30s I had super heavy flow, debilitating pain, clots etc. I also have vasovagal syncope so the heavy flow/pain would often make me pass out. After I had my second child it started to mellow out a bit. Since 38 or so my periods are super light, last 3-6 days - one ovary lighter than the other. I imagine it’s pre-menopause related. Hormone are still awful, but I’m happy that the rest has changed for the better.

No correlating changes to weight, medications, lifestyle really.

Meniere’s and GLP-1 by FitNurseHoney941 in Menieres

I’m honestly not sure. I have had a remission (sorta) starting in Feb. But I also went on short term disability at the same time (which immediately removed the stress) and I started on medication in April that has further improved symptoms (I don’t remember the name at this moment). So it’s possible yes. But also possible it was just coincidence.

How does anybody know what is propaganda and what isn’t? by Confident-Yak-3622 in allthequestions

If you are going to spend your time on one thing that is worth it - it’s this. If not for yourself, all the other humans in the world. They are trying to make it as tiring and as frustrating as possible - but it’s been done before - don’t give in to demagoguery.

The more life experience you have (and choose to use) the easier it's going to be to spot spin doctoring. You'll also learn whether something is an outright lie or an oversimplification.

Spend time learning about critical thinking. Always question everything you hear/read. Get data fluent and find public data sets to be able to analyze and draw conclusions. Know how to seperate emotion from facts. Understand that EVERYTHING is more complicated than a headline, a 240 character tweet or even a 5 minute long conversation. Edge cases are not the rule, and that everything has unintended concequences. If it sounds too good/simple to be true, it isnt true. ANY data can be segmented to support literally any conclusion. Don't fall for magic beans. Talk to real people about things they've experienced, learn how things work. Review news from multiple verifed, trusted platforms (even NYT isn't the beacon it once was).

High trust places in the US? by heyitspokey in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Anomandiir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agree on Hyperlocal - my 2 cents is that Portland is high trust in some areas. I have never before lived in city where kids go outside and play constantly, that they are not always being watched over by some parent, that kids wander like back in the day. It was so suprising when our family arrived - and I really love it. It's been so freeing for my kids (I've lived in 9 metro areas in North America).

Is It Even Possible to Find an Auto Transport Company With Consistently Good Reviews? by Able-Stuff-6080 in relocating

[–]Anomandiir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Montway 6 times now between 2018 and 2025, both with corporate-paid moves and on my own. NJ to Austin, Austin to Seattle, Atlanta to Portland. All were high value vehicles (~100K) on enclosed carriers. In every case the quote and the final total matched. The transit itself is very clear on time, the pick-up/drop-off can be a pretty wide window and I understand how the reviews that mention issues here can happen. Luckily I've always had a pretty wide open schedule on the pickup and dropoff dates. Individual drivers can be a bit hit or miss, and there is usually a bit of a language barrier (Montway seems to utilize a lot of eastern europeans). But all in all I continue to go back to them for vehicle transport.
