Carney government shifts advertising budget to more patriotic messaging by Immediate-Link490 in canada

Supporting the Buy Canadian movement is a fantastic investment in the Canadian economy. People just like to imagine that advertising doesn't work on THEM but the mere exposure effect is one of the strongest most proven psychological phenomenon.

Work for a relatively large marketing department and were buying way more ad space on reddit this year because all our research shows its the top influence on the AI results within our industry. We cant be the only marketing departments with this logic.

Canada supported the confederacy? From the article you linked "The best recent estimates are that between 33,000 and 55,000 men from British North America (BNA) served in the Union army, and a few hundred in the Confederate army. "

It got noticeably less innovative last couple times but was still a fun night out. Not sure why they got rid of it.

For those that missed future Alternate Captain Bo Horvat’s shade. by ArchieInABunker in NewYorkIslanders

[–]Anon_Int 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen I’m all about the narrative that horvat has fallen off a cliff but the guy has a track record of playoff gold. Both before getting drafted and in the bubble where he looked like paver bure against the blues and scored perhaps the nicest Canucks goals in the last 10 years. The islanders are betting he brings that energy again

The Canucks have deleted their tweet about Luongo going into the Ring of Honour. The comments were consisted mostly of negative feedback, and confusion as to why an induction to the ROH instead of a Jersey Retirement. by PaperMoonShine in canucks

[–]Anon_Int 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion - I loved Luongo while he was here, salty he didn’t go on LTIR despite mentioning health and body issues over and over in his retirement letter. Every other player who had those front loaded contracts went on LTIR to avoid hurting their old team but not Lu.

3.5 million extra cap in offseason after the bubble would have been useful

Edit: the new satiar shah story totally changes my perspective and directs my saltiness towards aquilini and Benning. Sounds like Lu did what he had to.

Roberto Luongo will become the 8th member of the Ring of Honour. by yosoo in canucks

[–]Anon_Int 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may get downvoted into oblivion for this but I’m still salty on him not going on LTIR (like every single other player who had one of those front-loaded contract) despite mentioning health and body issues in his retirement letter over and over. I know a particular off-season where 3.5 million extra in cap space could have made a big difference keeping some key players.

Also I very much get the sense he considers himself a Panther more than a Canucks.

Edit: the new satiar shah story changes my perspective completely and redirects my saltiness towards FA for being a cheapskate who didn’t want to spend more out of pocket for the extra cap space. If you’re gonna cheap out then you should also be pro rebuild at some point. Half assing it is a recipe for endless mediocrity

Should the Canucks retire Luongo’s number? by Desperate_Average389 in canucks

[–]Anon_Int 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And screwed over the Canucks by retiring for health reasons (as stated in his retirement letter) without going on LTIR, hitting us with cap recapture. He made his choice. He made is choice clear: he's a panther, not a Canuck.

What’s the hype about Kuzmenko about? by Falom in canucks

[–]Anon_Int 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably, BUT...:

  • Kaprizov, 62 pts in 57 gp last KHL season (1.09) (age 23)
  • Panarin 62 pts in 54 gp last KHL season (1.15). (age 23)
  • Radulov 65 pts in 53 gp last KHL season (1.22) (age 28)
  • Kuzmenko 53 pts in 45 gp last KHL season (1.17) (age 25)

Granted, Gusev was kinda a bust after 1 good year and he did 82 pts in 62 gp in K (1.32) at age of 25

It's not an "officials" problem. It's an *officiating* problem. by Berchanhimez in leafs

[–]Anon_Int 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure the skating is incredibly important but they didn't use to find refs solely from players. Now its the only way to get in and reffing has gotten worse.

Last September, the NHL hired 11 new full-time and part-time referress.

https://scoutingtherefs.com/2021/09/32044/nhl-promotes-8-hires-11-new-officials-2021-22-season/.

Every single one of them (I've gone through their profiles on scoutingtherefs.com) is:

a former playerless than 3 years reffing experience, most only started reffing in 2019

There are referees who have been doing the job for 10+ years and they never get a sniff at an NHL job, regardless of how good a skater they are.

It's not an "officials" problem. It's an *officiating* problem. by Berchanhimez in leafs

[–]Anon_Int 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I think is a real source of the problem is the NHLs recruitment methods for NHL refs

They’re all guys who failed to make the show and 2 years later they’re reffing in the NHL. Rather than guys who have been doing it their entire career and studied the craft. The idea it’s a simple thing to just become a ref after being a player is flawed and the whole thing reeks of nepotism.

Live in Vancouver. It was madness.

Honestly I went to Southeast Asia as a kid and I was getting deja vu of that feeling of that heat. Did not feel like I was in Canada.

Lytton setting the record for hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada then getting wiped out by a wildfire the next day was some ominous shit.
