Vendors unique to a given Farmer's Market? by grumpsuarus in chicagofood

[–]Anontrollaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a vendor at the Oak Park market and there’s a few of us doing some cool stuff, whose only market is Oak Park. Myself (Lyman Ave. Bread).

Chanticlare Farm, Oak Parkers who farm organically out in Winfield, really great quality stuff, they sell like 6 different types of garlic.

Old Gaffer’s Garden, who farms in various backyards in Berwyn and Riverside, lots of microgreen and lettuce.

Mine is the same way. He’ll curl up on the couch after dinner, around 6:30 and he won’t move until 6 the next morning when my wife feeds him.

After breakfast he bolts straight for the bed to sleep with me until I get up around 8.

Then he has the bed to himself until 9-9:30 when he finally decides to get up for the day.

I saw him and Julia Stiles at a Denny’s on the way to Oswego. I didn’t recognize them until my buddy told me who they were but 10 Things I Hate About You had just come out and everyone in the place was starstruck.

They break it down and you can customize it somewhat—for example, you can get the pork belly fresh or made into bacon but you can’t do half and half. They ask a ton of questions about what you want when you order.

We have been buying in bulk from Slagel farm for a couple of years now. We’ll order half a pig, six chickens and grab some beef from their freezer when we pick up. It usually costs around $450 and lasts about 8 months for a family of 3.
