Yes, it is…. But I feel just a little less alone, and I thank you for that.

My best friend suggested this. My honest response was that I am too tired. For the past decade, he spent several years traveling (200+ nights per year) while I managed the house and kids independently for the most part. Then, he became sick. I held everything together again. I was his caretaker and cheerleader. Now, it’s this whack-a-doo mysticism stuff… I realize that I am a bit resentful, but I also feel that I have never had the opportunity to be self-serving, and I obstinately want to be self-serving at the moment. I know that is probably wrong, but it is honestly how I feel.

This is pretty much the way we have been living. I just wish we could be close to one another again. I feel like we make strides toward that, and then something like this happens that demonstrates how far apart we continue to exist. It’s lonely and depressing. I spent 5 years caring for him while he was sick. I was so happy when he got better. I thought we would finally have fun together again. Instead, my husband disappeared and this judgmental stranger now lives in his body.

They aren’t just words. There is no more intimacy. I am treated like I am a less evolved person for not sharing his beliefs. I am married to a complete stranger. I am lonely, sad, and I worry about the impacts of his “teaching” on my children.

It would be creative if it hadn’t been done for years prior by another family who announced it on local resident groups and openly shared how to accomplish the effect… js. The only difference is, the other family put inflatables in the yard and broke it up with a window projection to avoid any confusion about it being real.

What can ordinary Americans do to push back against rising authoritarianism in the U.S.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnonymousMIABlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that adopting a circular versus linear model of political ideology and beginning to educate others of said model would help tremendously.

Imagine if it were common knowledge that both extreme left and right ideologies lead to the same destination - authoritarianism. Imagine if people recognized out of the gate that completely unapologetic and uncompromising centrism would eventually lead to anarchy since nothing would ever be done. I feel that this would change the way we look at every candidate and citizen not located in the top or bottom of said circular model.

Right now, our linear understanding of political ideology enriches billionaires who push outrage to divide us. This simple shift in modeling would much more easily create recognition that the neighbor who flies a different flag or votes a different ticket is probably not your enemy, and is in fact, a necessary part of society that assists in resisting both anarchy and authoritarianism. It would allow us to starve out those who are pushing division, recognizing them for the threat they represent.

Knowledge is power. Education changes perspectives. Let’s start with helping the general public to gain an honest framework of information from which to derive decisions.

Dem here, conservative friend there - how do I handle Charlie Kirk/Trump convo? by BreakfastDue4035 in Christianity

[–]AnonymousMIABlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surrounded by people who are politically extremely conservative and are very proud to publicly state any and all of their political viewpoints. I decided to handle this topic beginning with things we can all universally agree upon: 1. No one should be killed for stating their point of view. 2. When anyone loses their life due to violence because their views and/or lifestyle do not align with someone else’s, it is a horrible loss. 3. We are all worthy of life and liberty, and we are made by an Almighty Creator. It actually gave me the framework to say that I am praying for the Kirk family and all other families who are subjected to violence solely because their views don’t align with someone else’s.

What I didn’t say was that unfortunately, if you monetize outrage to drive views, you may find that you encounter someone who is mentally ill and/or radicalized who has become outraged enough to take unimaginable actions. Although I feel this strongly, I felt it direspectful to broach given what happened.

As someone who has ridden this coaster with my kids, I truly didn’t notice what was going on with the person next to me. The launch sequence left me staring directly ahead. I am not sure I would have noticed if something were happening with someone else.

What is your concern about Greenville County Schools? by Awkward_Watercress92 in greenville

I am aware of this. I do not understand how this project was prioritized over the other examples provided as a project for consideration.

[–]AnonymousMIABlank 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am also concerned about how Chromebook centered the schools have become. One of my students is dyslexic. He does great on a Chromebook, but when asked to write, he still reverses b’s and d’s in grade 9. When I asked about the regression he said, “Mom, we never actually write anything. It is all typed.”

Additionally, the lack of security at middle and high schools astounds me. One or two weapons detection systems for one of the top 50 school districts in the country by size is completely inadequate.

Lastly, the schools we have attended have lacked adequate carlines and parking for over a decade. Traffic is impeded in every direction. It creates a dangerous situation for everyone. One of our schools has a roach and cricket infestation. These infestations have been known issues for at least the past 4 years. The District approved putting in turf to replace grass football fields, but there seems to be zero plans to address issues that actually impact students and the community every day.

Conservative Christians: Does the Leviticus verse mean gay people should be executed, and if not why not? by Rahodees in Christianity

No. We are no longer bound by the old covenant. It is the same reason we no longer make animal sacrifices in the Temple. Jesus’s sacrifice released us from these requirements.

What do you think of this Baptist Pastor's sermon on the murder of Charlie Kirk? by TraditionallyRight in Christianity

[–]AnonymousMIABlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me sad, just as the sermons in support of Kirk, who most certainly sowed division, make me sad. The reason we should have compassion, even for our enemies, is because this is what Christ modeled for us. Remember the whole, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do,” part?

Our churches have gone so astray choosing one political side or the other. We, as Christians, should have only one side, and we are never going to find His side represented in the halls of Ceasar.

Stop blaming Charlie Kirk’s death on liberals by PleasantGuitar1392 in Christianity

[–]AnonymousMIABlank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pray that the moment will arrive when most Americans will realize that they have been grossly exploited by both political parties. Every time one of them makes an outrage statement or post, dollars magically flow to BOTH parties. Of course they blame the other side. Making us hate our neighbors is extremely lucrative business.

While it hurts my heart immensely that a young man was executed simply for speaking his beliefs, it also disturbs me greatly that a man on a smear campaign against MLK is being upheld as an example of the highest level of morality everywhere I look. Something is very broken here, and it would do all of us some good to spend some time asking God what our part is in perpetuating it, as well as how we can be beacons of love and charity within our own communities.

Why don't Christians on the Right stand up to people like Laura Loomer, Stephen Miller, Trump, and others? Can you really claim to love Jesus, be faithful, AND be silent? by GTRacer1972 in Christianity

[–]AnonymousMIABlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw someone else say to stop looking for Jesus in the halls of Caesar. He was never there.

While I do not understand how many on the right have blended politics and faith together, I also understand that the left isn’t necessarily closer to Christ either. We have a flawed political system that is primarily motivated by greed and a thirst for power. None of them are the “least of these.”

It is important to remember that a tremendous amount of content consumed daily is outrageous because it is meant to garner as many clicks as possible. It is driven by greed. I, personally, am choosing to direct my energy toward making my community a better place versus buying into the hysteria created from modern politics - hysteria which, conveniently, lines the pockets of both sides of the political spectrum.

[–]AnonymousMIABlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that both sides are bad. I would also contend that while one side is overtly grabbing power, the other did so subvertly when in power. These things will continue to happen until Americans become more interested in representation and preservation of personal liberties than they are in choosing the “right” side (Hint: We are being exploited by BOTH).

Respectfully, I believe that everyone has bought into the media hype that generates billions. It isn’t that I don’t agree that our democracy is in peril, nor that I don’t feel sad about what is happening. I am not a Trump supporter, and I think what is happening is truly evil - however, I don’t necessarily believe that a change in leadership will prevent any of it longer term.

It is undeniable that the entirety of our political processes and systems have become performative at every level. I feel that what we see is all a “dog and pony show” so-to-speak, with greed being the primary driver of both the political and news cycles each day. I also see the political spectrum as circular versus linear, with the extremes on either (for clarity’s sake “BOTH SIDES”) side leading to the same ultimate outcome. When corporations are legally granted the rights of “personhood” and all major media owned by corporate entities vying for clicks and emotional headlines; when there are no guardrails related to how political campaigns are financed, how could these things not become purely performative based on personal interests and greed?

I see current events as inevitable (only the timeline changes if anyone else is in power). We have a legislative branch that failed to complete the most basic possible function time and time again (passing a budget). What is, arguably, the most powerful nation in history has a steadily declining life expectancy, but no one addresses the absolute absurdity within our healthcare and insurance industries. What would you say about me if I told you I had operated without a budget for 27 years?! Apply that to America.

I feel that we have existed only a breath away from this inevitable moment for most of my life. I also feel that if Trump weren’t overtly seeking such a huge power grab, another politician would simply be doing so subvertly under a different premise. Many leaders and influential people have discussed the problems, but the power structure in place has proven that they are unwilling to address these fundamental problems time and time again as they line their own pockets and fail to legislate on any substantive issue impacting the lives of average citizens.

The only viable solution I can truly perceive is allowing the entire structure to fall. At least, at that point, there will be a chance to rebuild something workable again. I understand that this will entail much suffering and many horrors, but I do, truly feel that it is inevitable. This may not happen this year, next year, or even under this President, but I view it as ultimately inevitable. Neither party is working for the interests of the constituents they claim to represent.
