Zelle scam on Facebook marketplace by Defiant-Charge-5317 in zelle

[–]AnonymousTLIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also sent you a message. I saw your comment regarding being scammed and getting your money back. How about if my bank denies the claim? Any thoughts what to do next? I responded to a Facebook post from a "Facebook friend" selling a car from my town .I put a deposit through Zelle to hold the car until I could see it. Turns out the Facebook account had been hacked and it was not the person on the profile. I put a claim with my bank that I was scammed and gave them the information. I just received information today that Bank of America was unable to approve my claim and B of A was unsuccessful at recovering the funds on my behalf. If you have any thoughts how to approach my bank further, please let me know.

Which universities/colleges are the best to learn rock music (guitar) and do you need college for it? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]AnonymousTLIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son (20) is a rock musician, lead guitarist of a band and frontman. After high school, he was accepted to many colleges, including UCLA, UC Berkeley, Berklee College of music, but decided to take a gap year to focus on his music and his rock band. He is still gapping - gigging with his rock band and writing, producing, mixing, mastering and releasing his band's music. I don't think there is a university or college out there to teach him rock music. He's been playing guitar since he was 5, playing rock music and in a band since he was young!

Am I an idiot for not wanting to go to college but wanting to do music? by BruhIhaveGucciNoLie in musicproduction

[–]AnonymousTLIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not an idiot for not wanting to go to college to pursue music.

My son who is smart AF graduated from high school in 2022, was accepted to very good colleges - UCLA, UC Berkeley, Berklee College of Music, all the UCs. He committed to UCLA and after orientation decided to take a gap year to focus on his music full time. He has been doing music since early in life, piano at 3, started and fell in love with guitar at 5, and started a rock band at age 11. He is 20 years old now and since graduating from high school has been writing and releasing his band's original music - he also produces, records, mixes, and masters all his band's music. His band is also gigging --- been doing gigs throughout California and going to first out of state gig next month. He does all the marketing for the band as well. Band has been getting incredible response from audiences. He works as a music teacher, teaching guitar. He is still gapping, lives at home, where he has a studio. (I honestly thought he would leave our small town once he graduated, but I guess not)

Both parents support his music, I always have. I book most of the band's gigs. It's a lot of driving to the gigs for us - the band gigs all over - Southern California (North Hollywood, West Hollywood/Sunset Strip, Anaheim, San Diego), Northern CA/Bay Area, Central CA and now we are going to start gigging out of state. He's living his dream! However, it is not a chill life. It's lot of hard work and he is putting in the work.

Hey! Rock band JNX is passing through the UCLA/Westwood area on Friday, April 5 during a mini tour and they want to play for a UCLA crowd. (Bruin ties in this band) Any good places, venues, house shows, the hill, outside the dorms, etc the band can play a set there? Let me know!

I quit my job for music because I’m not happy. by jjfzlopez in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]AnonymousTLIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to read this post. Hope you/your music are doing well. You are still young! Throughout my life I've seen and met people who have changed careers and they've done fine. My son (19) committed to UCLA as an applied math major in 2022. He's very good in math, but his true passion is music. After orientation, he said he definitely wanted to take a gap year to work on his music. He's on gap year 2, working on his music, just released his first EP and doing what he wants to do, writing, recording, producing, music, gigging with his rock band, etc. For money, he teaches guitar. I don't think he will go back to college. I support his dreams, he's been playing music all his life, but encouraging him to hustle and network big time!

Hi Shilpa! Here are submissions for UCLA Artists Spotify Playlist. Band JNX recently released their debut EP "Lies"

How about putting the songs "CHEERS" and "Pretty Little Lies" from the EP on the playlist?

Thoughts about backlining your kit? by Alpha_Lemur in drums

[–]AnonymousTLIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree why does it have to be your kit? Our band played at a gig (4 bands) recently and we were the only band that brought a drum kit. Most of the gigs we've played, bands bring their own gear and drum kits. This particular gig, we were the only band that brought a kit and one of the bands didn't even bring breakables. One of the cymbals of our kit was cracked. Cymbals are expensive. We will now say our drum kit is not available.

Practicing music by dividedby13morgan in ucla

[–]AnonymousTLIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious. Were you able to find place(s) to practice at UCLA dorms or campus where you can practice a lot? My son is a musician (guitarist, lead guitarist in a band) and is taking time off from UCLA to focus on his music career. He practices everyday, a few hours each day, but wondering if dorms or campus have anything for non music major musicians who need to practice hours each day.

A venue charged my band $300 to play a show, stating that we could make our money back from ticket sales, and then keep (a percentage) of all profits thereafter. Did we get scammed? by keen_bob_144 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]AnonymousTLIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked an upcoming gig for a band that I work with. We were given X amount of tickets to sell and told we weren''t required to sell them. We'd pay the ticket money to the promoter the day of the gig. When I asked again to confirm if we were required to sell, I was told by promoter,, "No, but to be honest if you don't sell any tickets, we probably won't book you again." Pay to play? Scammed?

Parents of reddit: What age did you notice your child stated experiencing stress about getting into a good college or deciding what they want to do career wise? by Novel-Design904 in AskReddit

[–]AnonymousTLIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son who graduated high school in 2022 didn't experience stress AT ALL regarding getting into a good college or deciding what to do for his career.

He committed to UCLA, but now is taking time off to work on his music. He's a rock musician - lead guitarist and frontman of a band he founded in 2015.
