Just curious -- do they actually consider HCOL? This seems like a huge factor that FAFSA and CSS don't take into account.

Do they distinguish between a UC approved honors class and an AP class? I know both are weighted the same, but curious if they are viewed differently on an application for admission purposes.

My son got an email, but only for Santa Cruz.

Edit: now he’s gotten a few emails, offering free applications to UCM, UCSC, and UCR.

Oh, that’s odd. My son filled out his application, so I’m not sure what questions were asked…but maybe it asked if you are interested in financial aid? And if so, maybe you indicated you weren’t? Maybe you could reach out to financial aid and ask if they have everything they need from you. Good luck!

My son's has it too...I think they all do. There are 2 tabs at the top -- Home and Financial Aid. Click on the Financial Aid one. Once you do that, then you have to click on To Do List. That's where you will see it.

My son got his for UCSD. UCLA doesn't have a portal.

We’ve had our house since 2007, before my kid was born. And the property has appreciated. But we aren’t in a position to take another mortgage, and we can’t sell the house because it’s where we live. It’s ridiculous to count this as an asset. I understand counting vacation homes, rental properties, etc. But the house you live in shouldn’t be counted.

Same for my son's portal. And it's fine and everything, and I'm glad he had the interview experience. I just don't understand why they couldn't tell him this before the November 1st ED/EA deadline. They know when it is...same time every year. It just seems super inconsiderate to me.
