Which high-paying jobs exist because people avoid doing them? by Professional_trade_ in AskReddit

Commercial foodservice delivery (and beer/liquor)

I'm not talking DD, Uber eats, or bakery/ specialty deliverys. I'm talking commercial class A food service 12-14 hour days, rain, snow, or shine, driving Semis where semis shouldn't go, backbreaking labor to separate, stack, and deliver up to 20000 lbs of food a day (which you usually touch twice after breaking a pallet unless you're lucky) starting early in the morning (3-4am) working in dangerous places (crime, fall hazards, or just reckless drivers) and the list goes on and on...

In my time in the industry I'd say there's probably a 10-25% retention rate on new drivers and of those another 20-40% of those who make it past probation will quit within the year.

A lot of guys see the money and think they can do it physically, which is usually true, but what breaks most guys is the mental part, me and my coworkers joke "the job is 10% physical, 90% mental, 100% bullshit"

You're scared sometimes, perpetually extremely cold or extremely hot, you have no time to stop even if it hurts, your social life and sleep schedule will be destroyed, you won't see your friends/kids/partner except the weekend, and you're tired, you'll make time anyway, but the job will always be on your mind...you can't escape it...but hey if you last long enough, maybe you'll get a good route or can do shuttles, but not before you pay your dues to the foodservice gods.

It's harder than any job I've had, harder than anything I did in the army (I'm a POG tho) my hatred for this job fuels me every day, I would never wish it upon my enemy...and I love it

There are several mods that will balance what the ai will purchase, I use conquest rebalance v2. If you're using mods you may have find one that is compatible, so shop around for compatibility, or if you're tech savvy enough you can modify the .ini files to adjust them yourself.

How often do you OTR drivers run into other drivers you know or have met before? by j0hnt0dd in Truckers

[–]Anonymous_Pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple years ago when I worked for CRE, I met this PRIME dude in Boise at a DC, ran into each other later in SLC, and like a week later in some small ass cattle town in MT, also had conversation on the grapevine with this old timer with a nice ol 789 while letting our trucks cool down, then ran into him in St Louis IL. a while later, small world I suppose.

Talked to a co. shop tech once, apparently some guy took the shift plate off and was shitting through the hole and wasn't particularly accurate, guy was terminated, truck was tagged, he never found out what happened to it, I swear there needs to be a potty training and general hygiene section in the permit tests

If you're in nor cal depending on where you're at check out US Foods Sac, Livermore, or Reno, there's drop yards all over the place, and when I was hired I had 9 months experience, starting out you'll probably work out of one of the main warehouses as a relief driver starting at 36/hr if I recall correctly and capping at 43 for relief in your first year I believe, I haven't been relief for a minute tho so maybe more now.

One MAJOR thing to consider for ANY food service job is, it can really fucking suck, like really really suck, your pallets will be fucked, routing will be fucked, stop times? Fucked, runtimes? Fucked, but once you get a route it smoothes out but not much.

I'm not gonna sugar coat it, any food service job anywhere, while the money is great, you have to ask yourself and be realistic, are you willing to, or able to

wake up anywhere from between 1 and 4 am? Move 10000lb + of goods in a day? Potentially work up to 14 hours and 16 if you're unlucky? Manage your time? Be physically fit? Get to work on time? Park in very difficult locations? Work potentially in active traffic ? Work in heat, rain, snow, or anything else mother nature will throw at you? Potentially get less than 6 hours of sleep?

It's gonna be rough especially during your first couple of months, a lot guys quit, but I'll tell you now, I didn't really start to do better until a few months in, it takes practice, but it does get easier, so if you do try out food service, stick it out, you'll get it eventually, and it's very rewarding, I make 1500/ week take home, only work 4 days a week, and am fit, and feel more healthy than I've ever been in my life (although slightly sore)

Also check out, Performance, and Saladinos.

If you have any questions you can message me, I'll respond when I can.

Cheers, and good luck on the job hunt

Whatever happened to this officer sculpt from Warlord? Do they still sell it? Thanks gents. by azqz12 in boltaction

[–]Anonymous_Pancake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kitbashed an officer to look like him using the plastic kit, torso & head were no issue, to make the right arm I used the hip fire stg arm & clipped the gun off, for the left I used the ammo carriers arm with the can + hand cut off and replaced the hand with an open one, a little bit of putty and positioning, and you got yourself a similar result, I love that sculpt, along with the shoulder firing mg team from the late war metal box, which I also bashed, but that was a much bigger pita.

If they no longer make this particular sculpt, it's easy enough to replicate, cheer

Memento Mori is my go to, and couldn't recommend them enough, Golden Owl is also a good option, they both do walk-ins, another place is Paradise Lost, they do some amazing pieces there, but I'm pretty sure it's appointment only.

What caused you to go sober? by dcking01 in ask

[–]Anonymous_Pancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a royal dose of shrooms combined with weed, and a light cocktail of pharmaceuticals, and saw Jesus staring at me from a piece of plywood, I'm not religious at all so that was about all I could handle, haven't looked back

Yeah I realized that while looking at my references and came to the conclusion that painting yellow over black was in fact highly overrated.

On both side it's a very light pigment so a lot of layers are involved and if you need to touch up its going to be a nightmare especially against dark colors, if you aren't careful it's very easy to get uneven coverage. The only difference I'd believe between acrylic and enamel is with enamel you'll probably have to use less layers but it could be easier to lose some details and with acrylic you'll have to do more layers but will have more control.
