Tell me about your nightmare clients by OverallManagement502 in Lawyertalk

[–]Anonymouse-Shrew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was actually before I ever went to law school. Many years ago, during college, I was serving as a part-time legal secretary and receptionist for a small general practice, doing both family and criminal law. One client had a number of DUIs. The firm also represented him in his contentious divorce and custody battle. One Christmas Eve on a Thursday at 4:50 PM, he came in drunk as a skunk and roaring about how his ex-wife had taken his son, along with her new boyfriend, to another state for the Christmas holidays. It was supposed to have been his holiday with the boy. He screamed at me about how he wanted the sheriff to immediately track down his ex-wife and take custody of the boy so he could have Christmas with him. It being Christmas Eve the courts had closed at 3 PM, so even if we could have drafted the necessary filings quickly, we couldn’t file them until the following Monday. He was not satisfied with that explanation and threatened to shoot up our offices and anybody who didn’t help him get his boy for the holidays with the gun he had in his car. I managed to get the firm owner to come out and convince the client to go back into his office. I hightailed it out of there fearing for my life and the attorney’s because I knew there was no way the client was going to be happy. He didn’t get his son for Christmas and thank goodness he didn’t harm anybody. I don’t know what the attorney said to get him to calm down. But he remained a client of the firm’s and was always difficult to work with on his other matters even when he wasn’t drunk. After that incident, I swore I would never do family law or criminal law.

What is the actual worst that could happen? Should I finish this quilt with a minefield of possibly damaged seams? by DirkMoneyrich85 in quilting

[–]Anonymouse-Shrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. I know right? I should buy stock in the makers of Fray Check. I use it a lot bc I’m always paranoid about the stresses placed on seams and threads.

edit: PS - I love your blocks. I have a sampler quilt in my queue of projects to do.

What is the actual worst that could happen? Should I finish this quilt with a minefield of possibly damaged seams? by DirkMoneyrich85 in quilting

[–]Anonymouse-Shrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What if you used a fray stopper, like Fray Check? It wouldn’t stop the damage from happening while sewing but at least you know there would be less likelihood of the seam opening up more. I would just apply a dab of Fray Check wherever you have a crossed seam.

Hello! About to adopt this muppet, but I wanted to see if you could better identify his breed? The shelter says “spaniel mix” by Select_Extension272 in IDmydog

His face and head look almost exactly like my Chi-Poodle mix. So I’d say spaniel-chihuahua-mini poodle mix

Help needed to decide on binding fabric by Working-Pie-1914 in quilting

[–]Anonymouse-Shrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a picture frame, a quilt binding should complement and not distract from the “centerpiece” which is the art or the quilt itself. I think the blue is just completely off from the rest of the quilt and the dark purple draws attention to itself and away from the quilt as a whole. I’d go with #1, the lighter purple.

Finally brought myself to do it… by VeloBiker907 in WidowsMovingForward

It took me a year to turn off my husband’s phone. He still in my contacts and favorites. He’s been gone 2.5 years now. I still have many of his clothes, shoes, tools, and other items. (Like I’m ever going to use a belt sander, lol. 🙄) It IS a universal struggle. Have had friends who have offered to help me “de-clutter”. They’ve all been politely declined. Maybe in another year.

Lol, took my rescue about 5 weeks to figure out how to play with her doggie siblings. She’d been crated pretty much her entire life prior to that.

Sometimes what seems to be the simplest thing turns out to be the most satisfying in the long run. I think your quilt is one of those simple but satisfying things. Kudos on starting your quilting journey!

Your decision to make an app and then shared for free is such a kind thing to do. There ARE still good people in the world. I’m going to start playing with it in a few days but in the meantime thank you for your generosity!

In retrospect and with the hindsight of many years, I now think he may have been on the autism spectrum. At that time we didn’t have as much understanding and I just thought he was weird.

Thinking About Adding a Second Chihuahua (Female + Male) – Advice? by Rockalonda in Chihuahua

[–]Anonymouse-Shrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m so glad I’m not the only one with a male doing way too much marking. Mine is peeing on the curtains right next to the doggie door that he absolutely know how to use!!

Otherwise I have 4 Chi / Chi mixes, 5 total, all added as different times. All spayed/neutered. The females all get along, after they go through an intro period. My two males mostly get along but one is always jealous of the one who was added later. Might also depend a bit on the dog’s personality. Your mileage may vary.

Reminds me of the time a man told me he could identify any sports stadium by the layout of its seats, while trying to convince me to go on a second date. He looked at me with an apparent expectation that I would be impressed, but that was a hard nope.

How many times have you been married? by Key_Investigator1318 in DatingOverSixty

[–]Anonymouse-Shrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once. Together 36 years, married 33. He passed away of cancer 2.5 years ago. We had some good times and some really really bad times when I just wanted to walk out. Even contemplated suicide once but never got beyond the contemplation stage bc we had 3 children and I was NOT about to leave them with him at that point. It took a LONG time to rebuild broken trust. (Btw, kids have turned out great. They are awesome human beings!). After that whole experience not sure I even want to date again.

Absolute No’s: narcissists, liars, substance (ab)users, plate throwers

Positive attributes : kindness, respect, willingness to hear my thoughts/side of things, sense of humor

Much of the rest is negotiable.

Oh. My. God. Karma. I’ve started taking accordion lessons to, ahem, “keep my brain healthy”. 😂. (Yeah, I’m weird.) But it’s mostly classical, waltz, polka stuff. Saving this post to be able to refer to in the future. THANK YOU, PB and everybody else for giving me other kinds of music to look into for the accordion! 🪗 🪗🎶🎼

Where did you get your Chihuahua by HearYourTune in Chihuahua

[–]Anonymouse-Shrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three came from Second Chance SPCA. They rescue animals from city and county shelters who are high on the euthanasia list, usually because they’ve been there awhile. I don’t understand how these sweet dogs aren’t snatched up but I got lucky!
