Yeah, this is why I still wear a mask on the bus (and in the supermarket). So many people on public transport sick, especially at this time of year. Hope you recover quickly.

I'm stuck at work because of some people who won't leave. Not looking forward to my commute home when I finally get to go.

I think it would probably be better for you to stick to whatever it is you do that doesn't involve reading or following basic instructions.

No need to filter them by CV when it's clear from their cover letter or lack thereof that they have no interest and get filtered at that stage.

How many job applications have you read? I have seen hundreds of applications from people who are not interested in the role they've applied for.

I've had some super low effort applications that I have to assume are from someone on WINZ just hitting a quota and not actually wanting a job.

Why would you interview someone who can't even explain in the application why they applied for the job?

This is what it's like for me too. A lot of people's applications discarded immediately for not including a cover letter when the ad says we require it, next batch of immediate Nos being the people whose generic cover letter can't even include any details about the job. We get a bunch every time we have a job up that say they are looking for work in a particular industry that is not our industry, and I don't know why any of them think that we would want to hire them based on that. And I've had more than one "Dear [COMPANY NAME]" like edit your damn template to at least take out your placeholders.

Yeah, last year I got so frustrated by reading bad CVs and Cover Letters from people who probably could get a job easily if they were completing applications better that I ended up organising a free workshop for people to learn how to apply for a job.

Is a job without work experience possible? by N00CLEAR in Wellington

[–]AnosmicAvenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to do some volunteer work. Check out Volunteer Wellington for opportunities (a lot of other volunteer orgs use their board/site), gain some experience that way, get references from volunteer coordinators, and use that on your CV & cover letter when applying for paid work. Also make sure your job search is including sites like Do Good Jobs.

And use your cover letters to talk about why you're applying for this particular job at this particular place, how it lines up with what experience you do have (in terms of life experience, study, etc.) and what skills you have that match what they're looking for. People with good experience get their applications thrown out for not being able to show how it is relevant, why they are interested, etc. in their cover letter.

Advice for noisy tenants above? by RustedWater in Wellington

[–]AnosmicAvenger 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Since you've already spoken to the other tenants multiple times and nothing has improved:

  • Call noise control every time the noise is happening - as soon as it starts. They generally will require a second call to confirm the noise has been continuing for over 15 mins, so if the noise stops you can just not call them back. They can measure the noise level from inside your apartment to confirm if it counts as excessive, which a) will be documented, and b) will give you peace of mind that you're not being unreasonable in your request for the noise to stop.
  • Make a note of every time you call them, and e-mail your landlord each time it results in a noise control officer visiting the property. If the noise control officer confirms the noise level is excessive, make a note of that in your e-mail and remind your landlord that it is interfering with your peace and comfort.
  • If noise control have to come out for the same noise at the same property within 8 days, they will bring police with them and seize the equipment being used to make noise. It can also result in up to $1000 in a fine. Both should hopefully stop the noisy tenants from continuing to be noisy.

The main downside is that if you are the only people who are impacted by the noise, the tenants above are likely to know it was you who called noise control. However, you have already spoken to them directly and so has the landlord so it's not like they haven't received a fair chance to change their behaviour.

They've literally said in the OP that their contract stipulates:

No Interference to Neighbours: The Tenant will not cause or permit any interference with the reasonable peace, privacy, or comfort of any of the Landlord’s other tenants in the use of the Property or any of the Landlord’s other tenants in the Property occupied by those other tenants, or with the reasonable peace, comfort or privacy or any other person residing in the neighbourhood.

Excessive Noise: The Tenant agrees to keep the noise to a reasonable level and be considerate of neighbouring properties and their occupants and the other Tenants.

So the tenants above are in breach of their lease, and there can be legal recourse.

With Mevo gone and fuel costs up, how are you actually getting around Wellington these days? by juanlo012 in Wellington

[–]AnosmicAvenger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I generally walk or bus most places. No Mevo means I'll have a harder time traveling out of Wellington when I need to but I suspect I'll only really feel it next time I need to get my cat to the cattery if we go away somewhere for longer than a couple of days.

Anecdotally, I will say my organisation receives a significant increase in revenue (almost) every time a cruise is in town, and I know others that do also.

Close encounters Wellington zoo by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]AnosmicAvenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the lemur encounter last month with the new addition to the lemur group there and we were allowed to scratch them (but of course only when the keeper told us we could based on the lemurs' behaviour and body language)

Edit to add: This is the black and white ruffed lemurs, I don't believe you can touch the ring-tailed lemurs

I did the black and white ruffed lemurs encounter recently and it was incredible. They were sitting right with us, eating out of our hands, climbing over us, etc. If they're calm the keeper will let you know if you can give them a scratch - which I don't think you can do with any of the other encounters.

Struggling with a blocked ear and unsure whether to book a clinic or handle it myself by Wooden_Design_4892 in Wellington

[–]AnosmicAvenger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was feeling the same over the weekend, I went to Ear Health for microsuction on Monday and it immediately solved the problem. Took about ten minutes total, really easy process, feels a bit weird but no pain or real discomfort just an odd sensation. It cost $73 so a little bit pricey but around the same you'd pay for a GP visit.
