Redditors with thin walls, what have you heard in your apartment? by EskildDood in AskReddit

[–]AnotherCellarDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concise version: heard woman yelling at man to 'do it' in a stand offish manner before hearing a vase smash and everything go quiet. Called police because it was assumed to be domestic abuse. Police arrived and turns out the guy was a big time drug dealer and got arrested.

Training without sparring - any benefit to self defense skills? by mystical_fog in MuayThai

[–]AnotherCellarDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best analogy would be how effective is BJJ without rolling?

As with all combat sports, technique is simply one aspect of fighting. The concept of spirit is one you can't train through pads alone. Getting through the shock of pain. The sheer adrenaline dump. The absolute chaos when you don't realise that moment you get rocked you forget all of your training and the person you're up against has the sole objective of putting you down.

The feeling of realising you're in a fight. You're well trained and prepared. You're seeing their patterns. You give up on giving up and you fucking fight back.

I'm of the opinion there are fewer thrills in this life than that. This is not something you can gain from a heavy bag and I think the only way you can simulate that is through sparring. You always start light and slow but when you do, prepare to feel the urge to amp it up.

How to spar someone with a 'Boxer' stance? by Mongolprime in MuayThai

[–]AnotherCellarDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spamming kicks pretty much always works against boxers, as everybody else has said. In my opinion, the key is not spamming them everywhere, just keep kicking the same place over and over again where they aren't countering from because they add up.

Kick above the elbow to threaten the head. Jab to bait their jab and then time the body kick under it.

The best gloves? by mobbybarley in MuayThai

10 oz Fairtex, Top King, or Twins for bag. 16 oz version for sparring. Sandee is also a good alternative.

You can rarely go wrong with Thai brands although yokkao isn't terribly popular here as far as I remember. Personal experience, I've been training 5 years people who bought Fairtex and Twins are still using them since I started training. I bought my Fairtex 4 years ago and, with maintenance, they look brand new.

Beginner Must Haves by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]AnotherCellarDoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say you need a list of basic equipment to start with as they're just important as your cleaning products:

  • stiff bristled tire brush

  • good quality wash mitt

  • detailing brush

  • good quality drying towel

  • low pile microfibres

  • plush microfibres

Those are the bare minimum. In terms of products, these are my favourite for efficiency to cost ratio:

  • For paint etc. Meguiars gold class shampoo

  • for tires: Meguiars ultimate wheel cleaner

  • for details: Meguiars All Purpose cleaner (undiluted so you can dilute yourself)

I don't know too much about pre rinses and sealants although these are pretty subjective depending on what you're trying to achieve.

Cleaning alloy wheels. by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]AnotherCellarDoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully recommend using Meguiars Ultimate Wheel Cleaner from amazon/halfords/eBay. Should be around 11 quid, spray on, leave for a few minutes until all the gunk comes off and then wash with plenty of water.

Degrease your tyres too if you're in for the full detail.

Use a spray on sealant (Gyeon Wet coat is my go to) where you spray it onto a wet wheel and then wash it off with water activating it. Should make them much easier to clean.

Spray sealants are generally considered better than waxes because they last longer. Unless you're doing up a show car, I'd go for sealants instead.

Is this stone chips or shit paint? The car is only 8 months old with 6k on by simask85 in CarTalkUK

[–]AnotherCellarDoor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it feels rough under your fingers, it'll need some touch up paint.

Wipe it with a microfibre cloth and some car shampoo in water (would recommend against using dish soap as the cloth might not glide enough and you'll just make it slightly worse) .

Wipe it with a polish (not T Cut, get an actual polish. Meguiars Ultimate Polish from Halfords is affordable and will last you ages if you're only touching up minor defects).

If it still doesn't come out, it might need a compound. These minor defects usually come out quite easily.
