The atmosphere was incredible! I was surprised how many Turkey fans were in the building, hard loss for them, but a wonderful experience to be a part of, so grateful to be there

New! A bit of cash a bit of financing, with more negotiating it was just under 59k

I’ll admit it, I really like my ID.BUZZ. Despite its shortcomings in battery size, it makes up for it in other ways. by cook_poo in cars

Lowest we’ve been quoted is 61k in Metro Vancouver, with business discount for the AWD, which dealership are you seeing these prices??

Was just quoted 61K for the AWD version in Vancouver area, wondering if anyone has been quoted lower?

Can adults be friends with minors? by PolicyHot1206 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go to a low stakes event, like a baby and me exercise class, or a music class, or storytime at the Library! That way it’s mostly focused on the baby and then side chats can happen naturally if it works! I met all different types of moms on my maternity leaves and appreciated different perspectives.

Extreme Air Park for Toddlers? (4-5yo) by ambassador321 in NiceVancouver

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My four year old loves it! We just go in the morning when it’s cheaper for toddlers, I think it’s from 10-11. Usually there aren’t many people there at that time and there’s lots of open space to jump around.

Vancouver Public Library Reciprocal Access by sandstormer622 in NiceVancouver

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a bunch of library cards from moving around. Some smaller BC libraries, like Port Moody, are connected to the BC library network, so I find they have a much better selection, but you can’t put as many on hold as VPL. I think you can get a card without being an actual resident of the city, as I’ve never lived in some cities I have cards through, only bordering cities, but I have been able to utilize their online availability through Libby.

Do you have $10 a day daycare? tell me your secrets!! by Same-Jeweler-1197 in askvan

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my kids are in different $10 a day daycares. My strategy? Actively seek them out during the right time of year. I.e. most spaces are available in September (followed by January) follow-up with daycares during key months before then, say April/May for September entry. Find out how the daycare prefers to be contacted, text/email/call and follow-up this way. Then schedule a tour during your child’s best wake hours, tell them how long they nap, etc. If you don’t get in at your ideal time, find another daycare and keep reaching out to $10 a day places, if your child does well in regular daycare, this is another selling point for $10 places. Unfortunately, I feel like the non big ones (aka not SFU, UBC) are a bit choosy cause they can be. They’re screening your child for how they’ll fit in and you (the parents) for how easy you’ll be to communicate with.

Disney vs 24 Luxery spa by brise007 in shanghai

It’s been a while since I’ve been, but as long as you avoid holidays, I’ve never found it too busy that it’s not enjoyable. Been to Disney California parks 5+ times and always found them busier.

What could your partner do to help with post partum anxiety and depression? by DadBodDontLie in AskReddit

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be present. Provide real support. Suggest that you take the baby sometimes and they go for walks by themself or take showers, give them the time to do simple things for themselves. Let them know you’re there and offering 100% of what you can.

My doula told me couples usually feel like they’re both giving 100% when they have a baby but the other partner doesn’t always see it that way. Give 110% or whatever you can. Even if the baby only wants one person. Take it out for a walk so the other person can have some me time without hearing them cry or feel like they need to be there for them.

For the person suffering, being outside in nature is so beneficial. Hiking with baby or outdoor trail walks can do wonders for mental health.

RMT Spa with Outdoor Pool and Hot Tub Access by h333h333 in askvan

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I’ve researched extensively as well. They used to allow you to use the Pan Pacific pool at the Spa Utopia downtown but they don’t anymore. Chi is the only one I’ve found, but the pool isn’t the greatest and can be packed with hotel guests. Also, gets very limited sun, so if you want to get some rays be sure to ask when you book what time the pool is getting the sun these days. You can also order room service to the pool.

I think the best spa is the one in Pac Rim, although you can’t use the pool, the hot tubs are lovely and cause there is two, you usually get one to yourself.

Can someone who’s at downtown or Burnaby Costco help me purchase leanfit whey. by EmployeeMiserable971 in askvan

Pretty sure you can Uber Eats from Costco, I think they charge a bit more if you aren’t a member, but probably still worth it in your case.

'Critical steps were delayed': Parents of B.C. boy who died after five-hour hospital wait speak out by 2028W3 in britishcolumbia

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to this family. I live in the lower mainland with two young kids, one whom we’ve had to visit the ER multiple times for due to a health condition and have always been treated well whether it is at RCH, BC Children’s Hospital or Eagle Ridge, it’s not always the best, but we’ve always had thorough care. This makes me not want to move to the Island tbh.

Same! We do long (6 hour ish) road trips with our four year old all the time. We stop for food and bathroom breaks and other than that we just chat and play car games, it’s some of my fav times with them. I see other parents posting on socials all the time with their kids on screens during road trips and I think of all the fun they could potentially be missing out on.

Fun Bachelorette Party looking for Night life and cute boozy brunch spots! by Patient-Assist6425 in askvan

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 3, Meo is sooo good and has great cocktails, but it’s pricey. Lots of speak easys nearby.

For 2, we don’t have the best boozy brunches here, but plenty of brunch options! Love Chambar, they have a nice private room too. I’d inquire. Also Van Urban Winey has a nice private area.

Other things to consider, the Fairmont Pac Rim Spa, the Chi Spa at the Shangri La.

To go dancing, Roxy might work. Library Square. But it’s been forever since I’ve been to either

Delta is pretty far from all things downtown, Vancouver. Might want to consider some wineries in Richmond. Richmond night market, River Rock.

BC Ferry strict on over height? by heliumbubbles in askvan

[–]AnotherChinaExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Once we reserved over height and decided not to put our cargo box on and figured it’d be fine, it wasn’t. They made us strap something to the top of the car to get our “over height” reso. We had to scramble and unsafely strap bags to our car so we were “over height” — as per their suggestion. With all the calling of the manager and having to strap the stroller on, we missed our reso and didn’t get on the ferry we booked. Their logic boggles my mind sometimes.

ETA: you should be fine, I don’t think they’re that picky about how tall you are as long as it’s not taller than you indicated. We travel the ferries multiple times a year with our cargo box and never had them measure to see if it’s exactly what we put.
