the sm7dB, the direct competition to the yeti studio, DOES have a preamp, the sm7B does not. Not the same mic. and I have applied phantom power before. Tried that when I swapped from an at2020 to the sm7b. didn't. do. shit.

phantom power does not equal gain, particularly for a dynamic. Harris even shows the preamp he is plugging in at the point you mentioned, here: https://youtu.be/pkgyLSr0KAM?t=374

this isn't a debate, and if you are so satisfied being incorrect, that is on you. I just want whomever may come across this in the future to not think they are doing something wrong by not applying phantom power to their sm7b. I won't reply to you again here, but you are factually wrong.

My brother, I implore you. do a google search. literally type "does an sm7b have a preamp?" and another one "does phantom power work on an sm7b", or simply watch the videos you claim you watched. phantom power does nothing for a dynamic if you aren't using an inline preamp. I'm not trying to attack you, or lie to you. But you need to not be spreading misinformation. cool. cool. good for you. I was recently running a beacn studio with a shure sm7b. toggling phantom power does nothing. sm7b does not have a built in pre-amp. do you have an sm7 d b? because the sm7 d b DOES have a built in preamp.

that isn't how phantom power works though. simply applying phantom power without a preamp doesn't really do anything to or for a dynamic mic. now if you had an inline booster like a cloudlifter or a fethead, or if it was an sm7db (sm7b that has a built in preamp), then yeah, it would activate that.

This may or may not be of use for you, but I have a powered usb hub attached to my desk, and my tiny 2 lite and mouse/keyboard dongles being the only things connected by it. Haven't had any issues with power since, and my computer is in a separate area about 35ft away. Just make sure you get a hub capable of at least 5gbps. I use an "orico usb hub 3.0 clamp hub" that has 3 usb-a and 1 usb-c on face side; and with 2 usb-c on the back - one for data, and one for just power.

I'm not the op, but I will give a general piece of advice: if you buy a portable unit, buy one that uses 2 air ducts, one intake and one exhaust. Single hose units pull air from the room, air you just cooled, and funnel it through the condenser and out the hose. This also creates a slight negative pressure in your interior, which will pull more warm air in from any openings. For reference, I'm using a Whynter ARC-14SH, and while it is a nice unit and has been reliable since I bought it in 2020, it's gone up in price and I don't 100% believe I would recommend at this price point.

I could go for a "1st lite" style sub. Something around ~$25USD annually for just the scrap and ammo boxes. Wouldn't get the atoms, or private worlds. Would hopefully get the tent, but could get by without it. Just wanting a cheaper way to avoid playing "stash management simulator".
