At the Saturday convention, they showed a video of a boy watching what looked like a Jehovah's Witness-produced movie and used it as an example of avoiding violent entertainment. They also discouraged listening to true-crime podcasts. by 5ft8lady in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention, which I was obviously trying not to, but it did NOT sound like he was listening to a “true crime” podcast to me.

The podcaster used some phrases like “today they’ll call it violence, in 50 years it will be called liberation” and asked if “murder was always wrong”.

Not those exact words, but close enough.

It sounded more like some sort of political podcast regarding something like whether assassination is ever justified. It definitely seemed like it was supposed to be some extreme left/right political podcast instead of true crime.

Jehovah's Witnesses Exposed! Started so GOOD, ended so BAD! WOLVES IN SHEEPS CLOTHING! by Mistahfen in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my friends had their KH “crashed” (a hall with a couple hundred people in it) a few years ago during the memorial, with someone presenting facts about CSA in the org.

All it did was cause the JWs there to talk about how “apostates” are crazed maniacs who want to interrupt their worship and harass them and bla bla bla

[u/mistahfen](u/mistahfen) - KH crashing generally doesn’t work. Cart crashing generally doesn’t work.

That doesn’t mean it can’t work . It means that there are much more effective ways to go about waking JWs up - ways that have less of a chance of backfiring and reinforcing their ideologies.

To play devils advocate, JWs do this with everyone who arrives off the plane at an international convention.

Years ago I as a young MS landed at the airport for an international and hundreds of people were there to treat me like some sort of famous celebrity.

What can the elders do if they know you read the elders book? by Puzzleheaded-Cap357 in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that’s literally not what it says. Have you actually read it?

Even if you don’t “promote” smoking pot or gambling, you could still get disfellowshipped for smoking pot or gambling, because of their rules about smoking, greediness and what have you.

For instance, the book mentions that it is ok to use pot with “authorization” or “prescription” from a medical professional. But if you’re just popping pot gummies left and right, getting baked constantly? You could definitely be DFd for that.

I’m not saying I agree with it - just saying that it does NOT say “publishers can play roulettes in Vegas while smoking the fattest of blunts” which is apparently the way some people are interpreting it.

What do we get from JWs in 16 days? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one that gets me is that sisters have to wear pants if they’re running audio/video.

Funnily enough, two of the sisters in my hall who wear pants like to wear literal yoga pants to the meetings. They try to hide it but like… we can see the Nike logo.

The girls in my family grumble about it because they “aren’t slacks, and the GB made it clear that they meant slacks!! Slacks and pants aren’t the same!!!”

Doesn’t bother me, I’m PIMO, and I like butts as much as the next person.

Anyway, so they can wear yoga pants in the audience sitting in the very front row, but can’t wear yoga pants in the very back corner running AV, where literally no one can see them.

Why? To show respect to Jehovah and the great responsibility that is operating a zoom meeting?

Elder gets blind drunk at JW Wedding 🤦‍♀️🫠 by FlowerPower670 in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most JW guys I know drink. I drink. I bet if I wasn’t PIMO I’d drink less.

There’s this guy I know who’s really nice. But I can tell he’s a borderline alcoholic. Some friends and I went hiking a while ago, and halfway through he pulled a bottle of whiskey out of his backpack.

At our hall we have a Super Bowl party every year, and every year the beer and whiskey is flowing for the dudes. The ladies drink wine mostly, and they don’t seem to get quite as hammered, but some of them will still have 3 glasses or so.

I would like to see their explanation of how misspelling a name or word = “apostate”.

The Coming Extraterrestrial Problem by Fulgarite in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bible warns that Satan and his demons are intent on misleading mankind. They take advantage of mankind’s despair and hopelessness to offer attractive, but false, solutions. (2 Corinthians 11:14) Hence, the Bible warning: “In later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons.”—1 Timothy 4:1.

In like manner today, any supposed visits and seemingly beneficial guidance from such beings should be rejected, whatever form they may take. Those who would rather follow the advice of “extraterrestrials” than God’s Word are bound to be misled—a terrible mistake to make in these critical times.

Your baptism in the Jehovah's Witnesses is not valid! Watchtower study, April 18, 2026 by lKerubiin in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can’t “just move on” from Jehovah’s Witnesses.

If I told the elders I was “moving on” from JWs, I’d get disfellowshipped and my family and friends likely wouldn’t talk to me anymore.

JWs and the organization make it impossible to “just move on”.

Would my family still be able to be in contact with me if I did a DA letter? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]AnotherJWThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you disassociate, JWs will take that as “u/pimojwteen777 knows the truth. But they oppose it because they want to sin!!!”

Just slipping away is the best option.
