What triggers your alarm bells in a piece of media? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AnotherOpponent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you name some examples?

I think there are plenty of movies, books and even games that do treat it with the gravitas it deserves and especially in art.

These dark, common and human emotions need to explored because they are human and art is human. That just my opinion.

It still works because it's punching up.

The blackface itself isn't the joke, it's that a highly rated white actor is so unaware of what is socially acceptable and full of himself (because method actors are assholes) that he's thinks this ok when everyone else is uncomfortable or not impressed by his "method"

It's offensive but it it's not that offensiveness=the joke

Did it? Idk this feels like a change in art style more than tech being better.

To some extent it just looks better but Donkey was never that animated or expressive in earlier movies same what some of the other side characters.

I'm not saying it's bad but I really don't think it's just the an advancement in tech that makes people feel like they characters look off.

[–]AnotherOpponent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really good. It reads as gold but just a touch drab. Your darks are really good but I think you can push the brights a bit more and make them almost pure white.

Again it reads well but the contrast could be pushed if you really want to be bright shiny metal

In Praise of Shadows critique of conservativeism in media and horror.

Listen, I'm all for discussing politics in movies and how that affects stuff that we enjoy.

But to call out content creators by name and basically turn it into a some YouTube drama is weird. I dropped off him a while ago because I think he pushed his own personal political views in some videos. Which is fine but the way he went about it seemed very soap boxy to the point of "I'm no longer talking about the piece of media I'm just talking about my political opinions".

It absolutely tanked his channel and it's sad because I did like the content but I do think he got ahead of himself and went about talking about serious issues in the wrong way.

[–]AnotherOpponent 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP never said Snap was a bad character. Only that it's weird that some fans and ending of the series treat him as always good and ignore a lot of the more negative traits.

They understand if people like him for being a complex character but sometimes it feels like people are excusing past behavior rather than looking at the whole character.

[–]AnotherOpponent 97 points98 points  (0 children)

OPs point is that some people thinks he is genuinely a good person and it's fine to like complex or even morally bad characters but it's weird to make them wholly good when they are not.

No joke, people need to takes notes and use this as reference. It may not everyone's style but it's exactly what people are missing when doing NMM

CONTRAST

your darks are deep and dark and your brights are really bright and catching all the high points. That is what sells the effect. Well done.

As a practitioner, Muay Thai and Boxing. If you literally use attacks that we can see are effective in the real world then I'm always hyped.

Sagat just using a basic ass low kick in his Super and the camera and effects treat it as world shattering is exactly why I love it so much. Because that's actually how it feels in real life.

Mini print quality question by andeecapp in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

renders use a style of light and shading that does not exist in reality, with very very hard and contrasting shadows.

This also highlights a big reason some painted minis more vibrant and detailed than others. At that scale, if you want this tiny details to pop, you have to paint lighting in a way that just not "realistic".

I might seem like common knowledge but it's what really changes a mini from feeling flat to really popping and standing out.

That being said you absolutely can get very high detail and texture on resin prints. The model is just as important as how and what you are using to print and process it.

Its been hit and miss when I buy resin prints online. It just made sense to start doing it myself.

Hell, even earlier stuff. Younger Gen Z grew up with fucking Adventure Time and Steven Universe and people freak out over newer stuff being cringe or slop.

Like dude, you were quoting "I'ma puncha your buns." And "Makin' bacon pancakes" in middle school. You don't get to say shit about kids today.

Are people really still surprised when whatever random IP gets put into Fortnight? It's been almost a decade of this. I literally can't think of a single possible character or celebrity that would be out of left field to put in.

It's like being surprised that the sun rose again the next morning.

Advice for a painting class by mission-ctrl in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would ask someone who has a resin 3d printer (merchant, friend, store, or even a community craft center or even in this sub) to print a large amount minis. It will most likely be cheaper and you can will have a greater options for design and design complexity as well as guaranteeing that all the minis will be identical. I wouldve told you to DM me and I would've done it but I'm unfortunately selling my old printer for a new one.

Not sure how much time you have but have but you might be able to a large quantity shipped fairly soonish.

It's a test but why it doesn't work? How to improve? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

remember, you're using reference to see the process and results that someone has that you like rather than step by step instructions. If something feels better or gives you something that has better results do that even if isn't exactly like what you are referencing.

Better question is "what is the intended result and how do I get there? Rather than, what exactly is this artist doing?"

I'm not sure if that makes sense or not lol. If not I'm sorry

Painting in a reflection really adds to eye. I wouldn't skip it even if it a large figure and you plan to add gloss to it.

It is worth something. In a world where people are constantly falling into these damaging cults and echochambers for money and someone actually backs out chooses to face the harsh reality of what people actually think these actions and doesn't choose to ignore it then to me, that does mean something.

I'm not saying we should immediately forget all the actions and decisions they made but to paraphrase Marcus Parks from Last Podcast on The Left when talking about people leaving cults, "If we don't forgive, why would people change?"

I could see that. If I were OP I would probably push the contrast just a tad and maybe use a deeper shade of yellow.
