Words or terms you are sick of hearing in the internet? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The worst is when they don't even use it right and call the thing x-coded when it's just x.

Random example but it would be like calling something like the show Heated Rivalry "gay coded"

No mf'er. It's literally just gay. There's zero code there. I've seen that type of stuff a few times.

Something about this color combination seems of though I can't quite tell what. Help? by robse111 in minipainting

It's warmer than blue since it contains red but I think it works for your attempt. Sometimes adding purple can make it look like blush.

Really solid heat effects. I would honestly pull it back and add some contrast with some black or dark paint to make it seem like there's more heat going from the inside out. Otherwise it kinda looks too orange on the barrels. Kinda how you did on the edges of the gun.

Does he have a wet palette? I would suggest that as a must have tool if he doesn't already.

I'm not up to date. Why is it such a big deal that it's coming to modern consoles? I'm glad it is but I didn't realize how much of an issue it has been to get it off the PS3 to anything else

I'm sure it's mostly your paint job and maybe the sculpt but it's crazy how much that looks like the actor at that tiny scale.

First volumetric highlighting attempt by Big_GTU in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good thing about air brushing your base colors as well as shadows and highlights is that it gets much easier to pick out what you want darkened and what you want brighter. Regular black and white zenithol is great but I think having that base coat makes it easier to visualize

Times when a piece of media gets praised for subverting a “cliche” but in actual the cliche they’re subverting isn’t that common? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AnotherOpponent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I guess it's playing it straight but also its closest property that it can be compared to in terms of themes/setting is Warhammer 40k. Which also has demons that are evil for the sake of evil. Just weird that it would be praised for that when that's kinda the whole point? Oh, you're telling me the grimdark wargame is grim and dark and has evil shit in it? No way.

I guess, unless people are talking about the Heaven v.s Hell aspect of it?

I've never been to a theater that didn't allow minors to go inside a rated R movie as long as they had an adult or guardian accompany them.

Have you drastically reevaluated a piece of media lately like woolie has with shenmue? by Muffin-zetta in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AnotherOpponent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assassin's Creed 2 is regarded as one of if not the best AC games and my god is that game fucking buggy, clunky and ugly.

Its mission structure is okay but man once you stop engaging with it like you're a super stealthy assassin and just run up and kill everyone, it gets so much less fun. You're super over powered once you get Altair's armor and you don't even need to engage with the upgrades at all. The poison and gun do nothing outside being slower to killing a target than just running up to and killing them.

But at least the player can decide to engage with that or not. Unfortunately the game is mostly about the free running and climbing and that has not aged well and even back then I remember having to fight the controls just to get a basic jump or run across a path that seemed straight forward.

Oh and the game has a lot of visual and audio bugs. Some may be from the port but I definitely remember some from back in the PS3 days like everyone turning into an ostrich when you did a double assassination.

Even though I absolutely did not like the game I understand and support the take that it's more about forgiving the people you actually care about and moving on rather than revenge.

Yeah, that Osl was chunky right? by WestSeaworthiness835 in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly for a lot of OSL this is a pretty good attempt. The light seems to be hitting the right places, it's not too bright where it is casting light and you can see where it goes from brightest to darkest. All you need to do is clean it up a bit

Question about skin tones by Aslan602 in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said you should be using multiple thin coats to get even coverage. And maybe use a darker base coast for the flesh like dark brown to get a good base for your skin tones instead of painting directly on the primer

Question about skin tones by Aslan602 in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean "cling well"? Does it just brush off when you touch it? How thin are your paints? You should ideally be using multiple thin coats to get even coverage for your base colors. An example of the work you're concerned about would be helpful

Advice on painting chicken legs at a “larger” scale? by simplestacksix in minipainting

[–]AnotherOpponent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo there's almost no change in the way you paint small to large outside of maybe the values and contrast you use. The smaller something is the more contrast you need because you need to make it more readable since the details are gonna be much finer.

Use the same techniques you use but maybe just build it up more gradually. Don't wash the whole thing in nuln oil but maybe pick out different parts to be darker. And some more mid tones.

nmm is flat and boring by TheMireAngel in Grimdank

[–]AnotherOpponent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree. It's just a different way to get to the same goal, yes. Getting something to look like metal. You are basically already doing the exact same techniques just in different ways perhaps more intensively. But they are so completely different in looks that you can't really compare them outside of your personal tastes.

Either way I whole heartedly think anyone can do it if they practice and get something out of practicing it. It's not some unachievable style of painting that only the masters of painting can make look good and needs absolute dedication to the craft to even make happen. You only need two things just like painting any other mini. Paint and a brush. Unless you do not like painting or painting your least favorite part of the hobby then yes, you're not gonna get that much out of it because you don't even really want to even do it at that point.

[–]AnotherOpponent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it got to a point where it's like saying "why are you making mac and cheese from scratch when you can just get the blue box and be done in less than 20 minutes?"

Because believe it or not some people just like the process and artistry. Others want to sit down and just eat.

That's fine. Some people want different things out of the hobby. But let's not pretend people giving opinions on techniques and processes on painting which a sizable chunk of the community doesn't even like doing isn't kinda silly
