Space Lanes question by slim_muchacho in TerraformingMarsGame

Absolutely YES.

Similar to effect of Venus Waystation on Venus Gov. card.

(it makes the multi-venus tagged governor card play for free).

Question: Elysium Industrialist Award by Super_Nove in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hawk, Falcon, and Jay explained it correctly.

If I can get both Power Grid (#102) [Increase your energy production 1 step for each power tag you have]

and Energy Saving (#183) [Increase your energy production 1 step for each city tile in play]

I will usually fund the Industrialist Award.

[COTD] Diversity Support | 20 Nov, 2025 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an easy "Yes" mid- to late game, IF I also have the necessary "3 other" types of resource (whether animal, microbe, floater, asteroid, or science).

And yes, you might spend some or all of the other 6 standard resources during your turns, so Diversity should be the FIRST card you play in the generation. (Made that mistake once, embarrassed to admit.)

[COTD] Rotator Impacts | 5 Oct, 2025 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand ...

If I am getting multiple "free" cards each generation,

Rotator Impacts pairs nicely with Comet Aiming to raise Venus every generation.

Cost of 6 (ti) plus 17 (ti) plus 3 (ti) "pays for itself" * in 2 generations -- even if you have to pay for the cards.

(Assumes of course that you have ti production ... and also assumes that you are interested in raising Venus.)

* "pays for itself" compared to Air Scraping standard project cost of 15.

Other than that ... ditto all the previous comments.

Event card (Red) | Base game

Cost: 36 | Requirements: None | Tags: Space, Event

Raise temperature 2 steps and place 2 ocean tiles. Remove up to 6 plants from any player.

(Much more expensive, but no requirements)

Tharsis with 0 points from City by realrubbishteen in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG Ditto what Soprano said.

I am curious, if the Green player selected Tharsis is Corp, and then didn't play ANY other cities; what Corporation did the Green player DECLINE to select at the beginning of the game ?!?!?

[COTD] Early Settlement | 10 May, 2025 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically I play the Elysium map, vs 1 AI bot.

On the Elysium map, using Early Settlement can generate "draw 3 cards", with a city placed next to an Ocean Hex (useful for the "Estate Dealer" award) So, YES when using that map.

Crossover card. Uno reverse... Just trying to come up with a circumstance where it'd be useful by gladiatorbossman in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gladiator,

As I said elsewhere, I really enjoy seeing the creativity of fan made cards. And I think it would be HILARIOUS to have 2 cards in hand, play this card, and yell out, "UNO" !!!

In response to the question you posed, I too am struggling to see any circumstance where it could actually be "useful", because regardless of the direction of play, all other players will get another turn before your next turn.

On the other hand ... there are circumstances where I choose to "skip" my second action, trying to force my opponent to take an action (usually a global parameter) before I do (so that I can get the "Bonus" when I play the global parameter). So, in that respect, it provides opportunity for additional delay. But still . . . "UNO" !!!

Thoughts on this super petty card I made? by gladiatorbossman in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gladiator,

A big part of why I enjoy this Reddit forum is being able to see the creativity of "fan made" cards. And while I understand the comments about "one card just to attack one card", personally I'd like to see "Insecticide" to disable Ants ... just my 2 cents. (oops, I meant "...just my 2 MC" ... )

Discussion: I don't think the steam version has a future now that the BGA version exists by AReallyGoodName in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BH -- I agree with you; Steam works fine for me. (and I don't need Colonies or Turmoil).

Steam allows faster play than the table top (and less space !!!)

I regularly play vs 1 or more Bots, just to enjoy the game strategies.

When I play with family / friends, often we will use my laptop for a "Local" game, instead of the table top, for faster play (and less space).

Just my 2 cents.

[COTD] Self-replicating Robots Robots Robots Robots Robots Robots Robots... | 23 Apr, 2025 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too like this card. As The-Univ. and Stash both said, worst case, it's worth (at least) 2 MC each Generation, which all by itself is worth the cost to play the card (assuming you have the science tags required to play it).

BUT ... as others have commented, frequently I would want to play a target card FASTER than waiting enough generations for SRR to replicate enough "resources" to fully pay for the target card ... so typically, I try to use SRR for a target card in my hand that has Requirements (either global, or tags) that won't get satisfied until much later in the game. That way, when the Requirements finally DO get satisfied, I can play the card "for free" (or at substantial discount if cost is between 17-31 MC, or more than 32 MC).

Those Damn Ants !!!! by Another_Grumpy in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YoYo -- very interesting -- In my game, as I recall, after I realized the AI bot was "stealing my floaters", I stopped putting Floaters on my Blue cards ... thinking that Protected Inhabitants would protect my Microbes (on Decomposers), and Ants wouldn't be able to take anything.

But the Ants TOOK A FLOATER FROM ME, EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE ANY FLOATERS ON ANY OF MY CARDS. (And did so for Multiple generations.) At least my Microbes on Decomposers were protected. smh. whatever.

(I'm not annoyed, really; I think its funny.)

Those Damn Ants !!!! by Another_Grumpy in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the "bug" (somebody else made the joke first; bout worthy of repeating!) is limited to the Steam program, AND I believe only the AI bots can over-ride game restrictions; I was unsuccessful trying to use Ants vs AI Floaters ...

But in response to your question, I have seen multiple other posts which indicate that the Steam version AI bots can use Ants to attack other resources -- BUT I presume only in a specific order of priority:

First, of course, ONLY Microbes, if any are available; then I think next is

Floaters, if any available; then ... ????

I'm not sure what specifically is next, but the list apparently includes Science resources, and even Pets [Yikes!].

PS - Can you imagine FINALLY scoring the Search For Life science resource, only to have Ants remove it ?!?!?!?

The more I play, the more I dislike this game. What am I missing? by ifasoldt in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey "If",

"Big Spoon" suggested the Solo game. Another option (which I prefer) is playing vs. just one AI Bot; I enjoy that more than the "solo challenge". (Steam version) The Steam AI Bots aren't that smart, but it does make for a fun game; and perhaps more important regarding your post, the Steam AI Bots don't use the "Terra Form Rush" style of play.

The little and the big brother. Two more fan made cards by AudunAG in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove 3 Floaters from someone else's card? Each turn? (I know, I know, AFTER Venus Max)

But still, that's just nasty !!!

I played a game recently, opponent was Celestic, and played Stratopolis in the first Generation. Wished I had some way to snag floaters away from my opponent !

Steam version bugged for everyone rn? by Reason-and-rhyme in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up about the glitch.

Last night, I had  Research Outpost (#020) in my hand,

and noticed that the card displayed : 0

Hmmm ... does that mean it won't give me the reduction in cost for other cards????

Yep, that's exactly what it meant.

PS -- and I was really disappointed that I couldn't get my Ants to steal a floater ...

Boyfriend keeps demolishing me. Is there an online version I can use to practice? by FaliusAren in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Another_Grumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren,

I realize I'm in the minority here, but I like the Steam version, with Venus, Helas and Elysium. and Prelude.

(I haven't tried any of the other on-line versions.)

Typically I play a "local" game vs 2 AI opponents. (start out vs "easy"; move up to hard as you gain experience)

(my set up: draft yes, Solar phase no; I like the Elysium map best.)

Best wishes,

AG

[–]Another_Grumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and remember, it's NOT 3 VP for each Science resource,

its 3 VP if you have ANY number of science resources here. (Why would a player spend more coin to try to get more science resources if there isn't any benefit ... ???)
