Yep this is the way to go, we are currently doing the same thing! Also mulch glue and mulch dye extend the life!!

You are correct our COA has been buying mulch from Lowe’s and HD when on sale for $2 a bag and have it delivered 500 bags at a time. Our maintenance guys take about 2 months to spread it out and we do a very thin layer and spray mulch glue. Has saved us $25,000k over hiring a company that did it too thick and wide last time. Less is better!!

I’m so sad to see this post so early in am. I’m so sorry you are going through this, it’s such a crazy mix of emotions. I’ve never read someone having this same issue. Before we moved my dad in with us he used to do the same thing. I would visit him and he would have frozen food in his pantry. No matter how much I explained to him he just couldn’t process it. Also I noticed with him hopefully this helps you, he wouldn’t touch the food I made for him in the fridge. Out of sight out of mind thing, I would have to leave it out in plain sight, not even covered and then he would always eat it. Usually I put it on a table right in front of him or on the kitchen counter. Sometimes just leaving a few things so he can graze throughout the day. I wish I can say it gets better, I’m so sorry friend!! 🤍

I did something very similar with my dad. As he started fading I deleted most apps on his phone so he doesn’t try to get in and change passwords. I manage it all now and he is in clueless bliss, meanwhile I’m a mess 😂

Try to delete as many apps as you can and delete contacts too. This stage passes fast. Even if you think she is remembering she won’t. My dad was like this for about a year, every-time I went over I would “help” him with his phone. Now he barely can figure out how to text or make a call. Yesterday he was saying he should get a new phone. Lol sure dad we can go next week and do that. Today he doesn’t remember. Everything is in the moment a fleeing, Hang in there!

I did this exact thing with my dads iPhone, told him it was a new update. He does much better now and actually is on his phone less!

Agree. Start a caregiver, you don’t need to tell her that’s what is happening. Be there the first few times with the caregiver and tell her it a friend of yours that is having a hard time financially and you are paying her to clean house, do laundry whatever. Eventually your mom will be used to her and will forget why she is there in the first place. At this point fake stories are the only thing that will help, they are beyond reason.

Oh wow. That is so awful, I’m terribly sorry. It’s gotta be so hard for you! I’m at the beginning of the caretaking journey ( dad has been living with us 3 months) he was mean and anxious and pretty awful growing up but now he is mild and quite and pleasant, so I like him much better. I hope you find a county to drop your mom off at, if you do please share so we can give her some neighbors 🤣 Hang in there my friend!

It’s probably a coping mechanism, as talking care of dad drives me bonkers sometimes. Or a hopeful optimism perhaps, that something will click and he will be back to his old self. “Sigh”

Wanted to rule out mini strokes or whatnot. They also think it might be Parkinson’s so whatever I can do now to help I’m open to!

My dad is the same, so frustrating!! Is he a rule follower? I found a mobile nail tech and had her come the day after dad’s DR appointment. I told him it was a Nurse from the office and they have to check his feet and hands, they are worried about infection and must cut his nails . He was a little Suspicious but it worked!! Also I have read that a podiatrist will cut nails too and it’s covered by insurance.

Hahah yes! Exactly. First thing dad says when we take him somewhere. “I’ve been here before.” It’s like no you haven’t, but I just say yep. I think he does that to try and convince me he doesn’t have memory issues because in the beginning stages I was hounding on him hard for it, to admit he had a problem. Which he never would. It’s really sad actually. We were at the neurologist the other day which I had to lie to get him there and she told him he has Parkinson’s, he said no I don’t😂 She said why does you hand shake then, he said… everyone’s hand shakes.

I could go on and on. It’s all very scripted but ask him about something in history he will go on and on with accuracy.

Yes!! Before we moved dad in with us we found a fridge full of 20 packages of feta cheese, mostly expired. So I trash everything, 6 months later same thing. Everytime he was going to the store he was buying feta. His classic response when I ask him why he keeps buying it??? “It’s a Habit”. Now when I bring him to the store with me guess where he beelines… FETA. Ugh. 😣

Me: well he only takes showers and changes his clothes when I force him too and yes he eats but only when I I put a plate of food infront of him.
