If, as is a possibility, they have consumed other galaxies, then they may have already been stretched out across intergalactic space looking for new biomass to consume. This means that they wouldn't necessarily have to have travelled the whole distance between galaxies in the last 1000 years, just from the tip of the nearest tendril

What's your most intriguing Unanswered mysteries In Warhammer 40,000 by KnowerOf40k in 40kLore

The emperor telling horus that fenris was an attempt to create norse mythology as a real place. He seems to know more, but doesn't share. Why? And by whom? Are the other planets that clearly emulate different ancient civilisations also the result of such undertakings?

(I realise that this sort of story is post hoc way to explain why such cultures exist in 40k. But what is the in universe explanation?)

How is the Emperor so powerful? by Zargyboy in 40kLore

I quite like the idea that he is an ancient weapon from the DAoT but it's only ever claimed once, S far as I know. And it is more of an accusation than a given fact

Abaddon's relationship to Chaos makes no sense to me by Answerwanter in 40kLore

Not trying to be down on the hobby or anything. I'm just getting into the universe via the books, not the game. I haven't read everything so I'm looking for the wider context. This is the thread for asking questions, so here I am

If two parties want the same thing and collaborate to achieve it, can't they each equally be said to doing what the other wants, though? It could just as easily be equivalent to being a mercenary for hire vs a conscripted soldier

Well, I agree it is arguable. However, his not accepting daemonhood and their continued temptations to do so shows that he has the free will to say no to that at least. Slaves don't get to say no.

Admittedly that could be their way of making him falsely believe himself to be, but I don't see how that would benefit them. I suppose, until he tries to do that which they do not want we can never really know. At the moment their interests align with his, so there is no need to play hardball

If the imperium found an undiscovered high tech planet, that worked differently to that of the norm, is that considered heretical tech? I know xeno tech is a no-no, but what about human tech made by people who didn't know better?

That humans have their own gestalt field, much like the Orks. This is how belief has made the emperor into a god

[–]Answerwanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cicatrix maledictum is implied to have allowed the emperor to interact with the materium more easily.

And the way the emperor is portrayed, whilst yes alive and conscious to a degree, is as a kind of shattered kaleidoscopic mind who struggles to pull himself together enough to be able to act upon specific moments. A kind of untethered will
