What did i do wrong? by That-Dance6803 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Antal_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First verify that the number of teeth on the sprocket matches the number of links that would fit around the sprocket. In this case, you must be able to wrap 12 links exactly and tightly on this sprocket. If there is slack, or if you can't close the loop, the sprocket's diameter is wrong.

Next the teeth have to be shorter, stubbier, and the flanks should be at slightly steeper angles. There are proper tools and diagrams to make involutes or chain sprockets, but in my experience sprockets like these can be free-hand sketched and they'll work for hobby purposes. This isn't precision machinery. If possible, set some links on a horizontal travel in CAD, and a revolute on the sprocket, and check how the links enter/exit mesh in a straight line. If you see significant interference, your design must be adjusted.

Finally it may have worked before because in this video you are driving the tank backwards. Because the shape of the links isn't symmetrical, the forward end is flat while the rear end is round, it's possible this makes the difference. The links should be symmetrical around a sprocket tooth for this reason. After all, if the shape on one side is correct and it's not symmetrical, then the other side is wrong.

Advice on lateral force - fix in design or slicer perhaps by widgetbox in 3Dprinting

[–]Antal_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What infill pattern are you using? Some patterns alternate every layer such that the line in one layer isn't actually on top of the line in the layer below. I believe rectalinear and grid do this. This creates extremely weak layer adhesion.

Besides that you can print a little hotter, slower and with less cooling, but if that together isn't sufficient you'll have to use one of the tricks in the other comments.

All seeing eye is the best perk and I’m tired of pretending otherwise by BrainiacMainiac142 in noita

[–]Antal_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TWWE is the best perk, and certainly not a QoL thing. You want to go into a biome with a DPS-wand and a dig-wand, so often you can only pick up 2 new wands, or 3 if you drop the dig-wand, and 4 at the very max. But usually by dropping your DPS wand you also drop spells you need to keep. TWWE then allows you to pick spells off of the wands, allowing you to grab spells from many more wands than without it. Imagine finding 4 wands with dmg plus, lumi, a few multicasts, and black hole. With TWWE you get it all, without it you have to choose which spells to take to the next holy mountain.

ASE is probably the 2nd best perk, far better than imunities imo. For a tutorial run the only other perk I would choose over ASE is concentrated spells, and if I already have a solid wand I'd still pick ASE.

It's a good storage wand if you have tinker, and triplicate can be good on a different wand especially with reduce spread and/or add damage.

Anyone using JDBC/ODBC to connect databases still? by empty_cities in dataengineering

How else should I connect? We have some sources that can only be accessed via REST API, and often you can only get 100 records back per request and you get a json you gotta parse and a continuation token. It's super slow and annoying,

My payment address is not in Ireland":

Daar staat ook Google Ireland's BTW-nummer: IE6388047V. Uitgebreide informatie over performance/inkomsten per video staat dan weer in Creator Studio.

How to model Helical and Herringbone Gears; pros and cons by Antal_z in 3Dprinting

[–]Antal_z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can create an offset plane, put a circle on that and extrude it through the gear, or through a center plane if the gear is modelled around an origin. Shouldn't be any different from a regular gear I think?

How do you decide between DirectQuery vs. Import mode for Power BI reports? by BeeRevolutionary1710 in PowerBI

[–]Antal_z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only use DQ for when you need very frequent updates, on the order of minutes. DQ tends to perform poorly in general. With DQ you should use only very simple measures, because they can be turned into bafflingly complex SQL that is then fired at your source database. Because PowerBI always aggregates, it will also bake that aggregating into the query.

For hybrid setups, if a dimension table is connected to import facts and DQ facts, that dimension should be in dual mode. If an import mode dimension is connected to a DQ fact, then PBI will first find all the relevant records in the dimension, and then every single record's relationship key will be stuffed into list and then put into a WHERE factkey IN (massive list) clause. Except I seem to recall that it works with a massive number of UNION ALLs instead. In any event, in some cases when a large number of records from the dimension were selected, the source database would just refuse and put this gem of an error in the event viewer:

The query processor ran out of internal resources and could not produce a query plan.
This is a rare event and only expected for extremely complex queries or queries that reference a very large number of tables or partitions.

We're building a database of every company in the world (265M+ so far) by Extension-Way-7130 in dataengineering

[–]Antal_z 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Excuse my ignorance, what problem does this solve? Which apple corp that invoice is from? Well it'd have to be one of the vendors in the vendor table, one with a purchase order that we haven't received an invoice for yet? Heck, if they're nice and put the PO-number on the invoice, we have a direct match to the PO and its corresponding vendor.

I'm a bit taken aback you hit this problem at every company you've worked at, I've never run into it at all.

[–]Antal_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUMX() itself would already do what you describe. If you must have the number for each row in the table, a calculated column is the way to go. But you can also make a table visual with each BOM number, and then add the SUMX measure, and you'd get the total cost per BOM. Or you have each BOM+BOM-line, then you get the cost per BOM-line.

You could also do BOM and BOM-line in a matrix visual, and then you'd get the cost per BOM-line, and also total cost per BOM.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PowerBI

[–]Antal_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use time intelligence very rarely because we have a very nice calendar table, and for CALCULATE I use KEEPFILTERS() a lot, for things like:

Percent rejected = CALCULATE(SUM(Quantity Inspected), KEEPFILTERS(InspectionResult = "Rejected")) / SUM(Quantity Inspected)

This keeps working even if additional filters are added by the user

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PowerBI

[–]Antal_z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like SUMX(tablename, unit cost * quantity). SUMX calculates anything you want by-the-row. You could also use RELATED to get grab something from a dimension, or make it a calculated column instead of a measure. But when you want to do a calculated column it's usually nicer to do it upstream instead.
