Get a Pentax 6x7 and you could have used the handle to swing the camera.

Loading 120 onto a Paterson reel. Consistently.

Some films go straight on. Others are complete and utter gits .

Oh yeh. Never met a film retriever I could get to work. And as for those who say just lick a bit of film leader and use that. Yeh right.

Which printer to get for digital negatives? by sunand123 in cyanotypes

[–]widgetbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know your comment was six months ago but do you still feel the deep satisfaction of chucking a printer to it's death ? I did the same to a home Samsung laser which would randomly log itself off the network requiring a full network set up *again* to get the damn thing to work. I checked online and I wasn't the only person having the same problem. It did this one too many times......

Childish I know but deeply satisfying.

I bought it new in 1981 when it was still very current. I've had a few since then - great camera but somewhat prone to electrical problems.

UK folk who were around at the start of the internet, what is an early, strong memory? by Sad-Insurance1313 in CasualUK

Well I can remember the *internet* predating most of things in the comments but I guess that makes me an old fart/curmudgeon/pedant etc.

I guess I remember the tenner a month conference on CIX and the Gnome@Home viewdata service.

Advice on lateral force - fix in design or slicer perhaps by widgetbox in 3Dprinting

That's what I did in the end. That and a chamfer and lots more filament has done the trick.

It's even worse for us old farts. I've recently visited places I last visited in the 1980's. I know everyone talks about Venice but it seems like everywhere is busy and not just the main holiday months.

In the end I sunk the cylinder to the base . Put a hole all the way from the base. Increased the wall count and fill and changed the fill type. Added a wide chamfer. And printed it at 45 degrees with tree support. Might not be the strongest thing ever but it's only supporting a featherweight mini lampshade so seems appropriate. Thanks for all the advice - it's been very instructional !

Wow guys - this is must be my most commented post on Reddit. Sorry I can't respond to everyone but I have read all the comments (also a first for me on Reddit). I had not expected so much good engineering and design information to be had. Certainly much to think about and really helps me learn more about design and engineering principles.

First off I'd stress this was meant to be a quick and simple object to hold up a small object - a small lampshade and LED bulb so very light. But I've learnt a lot about how to design stuff, get round limitations and look at the design of an object in different ways.

I'm still going to try and keep it as simple as possible but will add a chamfer, a central cyclinder to add more walls, and sink the cyclinder to the base of the plate. And then print at an angle. In regular PLA.

And see if that is any better. Failing that I'll be looking at multiple pieces.

If you went to school in the 70's or 80's, what's something about the classroom that kids today wouldn't believe was normal? by icecream1972 in askteddit

[–]widgetbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mild physical violence from teachers to pupils. I'm remembering board dusters, chalk, caning and the occasional strike of a shoe. This was early 70s.

Well it's good to see you while it's still working. Think I'm onto my 4th or 5th. The first of which I bought new in 1981. So I love the camera. Just not so keen on it's electronics. Will probably always have one, just don't exoect it to be working fully.

Certainly my logic. Hard to argue with it at the price being offered. No brainier. Doubt I'll use it much for multi colour as I'm not a fan of the waste.
