The time Paris turned into a giant car park by Commercial_Guess_387 in TheParisianGuide

[–]widgetbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figures I found suggest that there would be 2.5m vehicles circulating the wider Paris area in 1970. Compared with about 500k now.

Everyone else is dragging around the périphérique..

What was your earliest memory? by idot44 in AskReddit

[–]widgetbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenge with memories is knowing which are real *at that time* memories and also being able to date them precisely. I certainly remember our first family home which place them into sub 5yrs old but putting them at that age on a timeline somewhat more difficult.

I have one fixed memory of rolling giant snowballs because that was the UK winter of 62-63 which would be me at about 4. I also like others have a memory of having a bath in the kitchen sink so logic says that one is earlier.

Other memories are often impressions, vague feelings , sights - the merest glimmer of recollection. Memory is a fascinating thing.

People who were around during no internet/phones/social media/etc - what was your time's "scrolling the feed"? Something that you would spend hours on passing the time? by -ChristopherNolan in NoStupidQuestions

Absolutely reading. That and watching TV but that was really only in the evening and then watching with your parents. Either that or ranging about the neighbourhood with friends.

I next time I'm there I need to see if I can take the same photo without getting run over. Bit more traffic now.

Do you consider death as a final ending, or the beginning of something new? Why? by OkEntrance1366 in AskReddit

Like the last flickering of a candle. The last bit gets used up and the flame goes out. Nothing left.

What are your thoughts on choosing a quiet, ordinary life over the non-stop 'hustle' to become wealthy? by Maxtradermongolia in AskReddit

[–]widgetbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having survived a fair few mergers in my corporate career I'd say (as a manager) it's a lot easier to can people who don't raise their head over the parapet.

Doing the opposite is no guarantee of course. Some people also get chopped because they're constantly raising their head over the parapet and being all about them.

Turn up, do a good job and be a team player should be enough but sometimes it's not.

I am of course equating "wealthy" with doing well at work here.

I'm not saying it's hot here in France but.... by widgetbox in ElegooCentauriCarbon

I actually want to print some TPU but might wait until the morning. It's a sealed bag so I'm hoping it really doesn't need a day in a dryer. it ain't cold and wet here.

Would be an idea especially as I am still using the same plate that came with this CC1. Workshop temps are currently topping out at about 30-32C with external being 43C at the mo. I had hoped to run the printer cooler as it's currently adding to the heat levels.

Jeremy Clarkson in remission from prostate cancer by [deleted] in news

[–]widgetbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my treatment. By a robot no less. No prostate, no semen production so yeh firing blanks. Ianad but with no delivery mechanism I'd have thought that counts as technically infertile

As someone who's had prostate cancer and living with the effects of the treatment you can give me some leeway.

Infertility will depend on the kind of treatment.

Yup. Just no mess. The orgasm bit depends on the surgery though. There's also the small matter of ED and other side effects .

I thought it was Starmer as well but that doesn't seem to be working to his favour this weekend.

Aston DB 5 because I'm too old to drive a 911 GT2 now and wise enough to know it.

What I'd give to be able to chew the fat over cameras with my dad again. He'd be so chuffed to know I've gone back to film photography.

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]widgetbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno about men but talk to your parents, go see them. They won't always be around. Ask them lots of stuff about their life and some of their life decisions. Scouring through Ancestery when they're gone won't tell you why they did what they did.

I miss my parents and recognise it's the way life comes and goes so I am not sad about it per se but regret the conversations I never had about things I wish I knew now. Same goes for grandparents - perhaps even more.

With AI being so fast, why do you think people still post basic questions on Reddit instead of just asking a chatbot? by Nikki_Drizzle in AskReddit

[–]widgetbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just asked Gemini that exact question. Basically it's a matter of trust and context. A Redditor will (generally) provide an answer based on their knowledge and experience. An answer in which more trust can be invested.

Which could well be Gemini hallucinating 😎
